How does you game fit the theme?
The game focuses on a man who's losing his mind in a train station. Locked inside to prevent the creatures getting to him, he explores the deluded mysteries of his surroundings and the chaos of his decaying mind.
Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
I'd guesstimate that about 75% of it is homebrew. Base shader was originally not mine but I built off it. Used some packages etc. but the core spirit and gameplay was made during the jam.

This is great man. Every puzzle feels just out of reach long enough that you go YES when you solve the next step. Love the writing too. Great atmosphere. And I like the "feeling off" vibe going on too. Right amount of obscurity with just enough reality to make it feel grounded in a distorted way.
Good graphics and music too! Very cool submission
Hi! This is a great entry. I liked the environment and the story was captivating, but I had a bit of trouble understanding how to make stuff happen (like how to change the numbers on the locks or what to do with the chess pieces) and it took me a while to notice that the eye showed objects of interest. Either way, I had fun playing it.
Congrats!
If you can, take a look at our game as well. I'd be glad to get your feedback.
This was a pretty interesting puzzle game, but unfortunately, my brain is way too small to understand what the heck is going on in most of these puzzles lol. It would be cool if you have a playthrough of your game somewhere because I'm honestly really curious as to how the puzzles are supposed to be solved and how it ends (EDIT: I finished this game while writing this comment and revisiting sections to write on :D).
The graphics are super pretty, especially with the goop puzzle. The music is great and doesn't get old (even after listening to it for a very extended period of time as I tried to find my way through this game). It all comes together for a really creepy atmosphere and I think its just amazing. Honestly, I think it would be really neat if you could port this over to a VR game somehow; I'm not sure how well that would work or play out but in my mind it would make for a really cool game.
No big complaints but here are some thoughts I had throughout the game:

Excuse the long comment (and the possibly pretentious vibe of this paragraph), but most were just suggestions to hopefully improve the quality of life for the player in this game. I find that when making puzzle games, clarity of information and showing all the necessary information to solve puzzles is key for an enjoyable experience. Some things might seem obvious, but that's usually only because you created these puzzles and know how they're done.
At least for myself, my friend and I struggled with clarity when running Shadeshift by our playtesters. Many got very frustrated on puzzles as they were confused on mechanics that were poorly displayed/explained (or even never explained) as well as visual/design clarity.
Overall, I had a lot of fun playing your game. It's definitely my favourite puzzle game I've played from this jam.
:>
Reading what is by every standard a professional, insightful and helpful review of our game is really amazing. Thank you so much for playing and enjoying.
I suppose the largest limiting factor was time, I regret not coming up with the puzzles sooner. They were almost frantically designed and integrated in order to make the story work and meet the deadline. For the icon on interacting, I have the sprites ready to go but just didn't quite have the time to implement it. (I also entirely forgot that jumping was something I had done. The trick was to jump up on the Jars, and for those that had already used them it was possible to make the jump from the green boxes. I'll add that to the list of controls.)
Your feedback is truly spot-on. I agree with so much of what you've said and I'll be fixing / changing lots after the Jam. To receive feedback, let alone praise from the developer of one of my favourite submissions to this competition is honestly great to see. Thank you for taking the time to play what we've made!
Mhm, time is almost always a limiting factor in game jams haha. Considering all of this was done in a week, I was very impressed and I'm glad that you will continue to polish it up even after the game jam is over. Once again I just want to reiterate that I honestly loved your game so much and I'm so disappointed at how underrated it is (literally, this game only has 21 ratings so far). Was it not possible to make it a webGL game? I find that in general, people are less inclined to play downloaded games.
I had it built and ready to go with webGL, but sadly the URP packed it in. Most surfaces using custom shaders wouldn't render and since it was a last minute issue I didn't get the chance to upload it. I also attribute a lack of ratings to it being only downloadable and not playable in browser, its heart-breaking to see but it seems that those who did download & play the game enjoyed it :D
This was such an amazing experience, like a virtual exit room. I've been thinking about developing something similar for a long time, but never got to it.
The visuals and music are great. Movement speed was a bit too fast for my taste, but that's a very small thing.
Congratulations to you!
Thank you for playing! The visuals were an idea bouncing around my head for a while and I think it worked with what we were going for. I had wanted to slow down movement and add a little camera movement to immerse the player some more, but I ran out of time haha. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
One of the best games from the jam hands down. Brilliant storytelling through both writings and environmental design, combined with ingenious puzzles.
It means so much to hear this, thank you so much for the feedback and I'm really glad you enjoyed playing!
wow, super artistic. This just feels professional right from the main menu and i love it. Great atmosphere and mood as well
Super cool game. I like how the toon shader blended with the 2d sprites and lighting. How did you apply the painted shadow on objects?
Its a very pretty game, I got 4/5 chess pieces but couldn't open the soldiers lock box cause I couldn't find out how to spill the goo. I was able to pick it up and move around just fine, but couldn't get the top off to spill anywhere for the final clues. Other than that, Good Job.
Hi there! Glad you enjoyed playing :D There's a guide in the comments of the Game Page that shows how to skip the goo puzzle (It seems to be slightly bugged as well with some raycasting issues). Thank you for playing!
Really interesting, i just got some bugs with the cards, but overall i enjoyed the atmosphere and the art style. I wish i have the possibility to press F to skip the dialogue appearing effect, sometimes the sentences were quite long. I see that, like me, you wanted to give a full experience with story and all, Good Job!
I spammed clicking the book on the table while standing on top of it... the pages or whatever all popped out into my POV and I just lost it.
:(
Very good game though! Perfect movement, art, audio, mysterious dialogues,... everything!
Love this art style! It really grabbed me and made me want to download it.
Thank you! I felt it definitely suited the ambiance we were going for :D
Bro this game is so BEAUTIFUL you should have more rates. i really liked it. The sader, the sound, everything was perfect.
It means so much to hear this. Thank you for enjoying what we've made :)
Very interesting story! I love the feel of the game. You did an amazing job!
I just rated your game, maybe you can do the same on mine ^_^
Thank you! Taking a look at your submission now too :D
This game looks amazing! It's truly incredible that you managed to make a game like this in only 7 days. The atmosphere is unsettling. The music in a background adds to it a lot. Unfortunately I have absolutely no idea how to solve this puzzles. I looked everywhere (Even on the roof of this booth) but i can't find any clues. I will definitevely return to this game when i have more time. Great job!
I'll post another update to the guide today to help people out :D I might have gone a little overboard with the puzzles.
Wow, the art style is gorgeous and the atmosphere it creates with the music is so so good! I wasn't able to beat the game having gotten stuck in a puzzle, but I want to come back to it again and beat it! Gotten yourself a follow on twitter so I can see what you do next
I really wanted to like this all the way, but frustration set in.
Got all 5 pieces, but the amount of choice there was with said pieces made this impossible to finish. Adding to that, the card game broke very easily, forcing several restarts, and at a certain point I was just out of patience to figure out the rest of the puzzle.
As a tiny sidenote, the moving text while speaking was pretty jarring.
Hi there!
Clues to the final locations of the chess pieces are all on the notes hidden throughout the station. In total there are 10 things to collect with 5 being scraps of paper that give information regarding where the pieces should be placed on the final board. We'll update the guide on the game's page so that other's don't hit this roadblock.
Would you mind describing how the card game broke? I hadn't encountered that when testing haha, but a Jam game wouldn't be complete without a variety of bugs showing up after publication XD
Thanks for taking the time to play and the feedback is genuinely important to hear!
Card game breaks whenever you hit the stack twice before it does its thing, after that the queen floats above the stack, doesn't get in position again and isn't interactable anymore.
As for the positions of the pieces. I think I understood where everyone had to go, but maybe I had 1 wrong, and another piece wasn't perfectly on the right spot. It's not as if the positions are perfectly explained. I personally would've implemented a dummy situation and just made 5 possible spots on the chess-y board. Or maybe 10, but at least not being able to fail by having 1 person one tile off.
Either that, or I completely misinterpreted and was a dumb.
Other than that, I liked the variation of the different puzzles. Having the narrative mixed with the answer of the puzzle itself is also really brilliant. (I'm just too dumdum)
I knew I had forgotten something haha. Yes hitting the stack twice will break it :( I agree that the chessboard might be a bit finnicky too so I'll upload the solution to the guide soon :D Eventually the guide should cover all the super difficult things / borderline broken things.
This graphical style is borderline flawless! The audio is quite charming and melancholy, absolutely fits the vibe of the game. I would definitely spend hours trying to beat this game :D
It means so much to hear this :D Thank you for enjoying what we've made, we're glad you liked it!
I am very impressed by the art style! You obviously put your heart into this game! I'm still waiting on the guide so I can finish it! ;)
On its way :D
