How does you game fit the theme?
The enemies aren't real unless you can see them. When they are not in light, you can't interact with them, ie, you can't hurt or touch each other.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Everything except the music and sound effects, and I used some textures from freepbr.com

The graphics are really cool, so are the explosion and particles flying all over the place, that was fun. However the framerate gets really really low when you have a big wave of ennemies coming for you.

To addup to the camera issue previously discussed in your comments, I believed a fixed top-down camera might be best for your game, it doesn't really follow the character, it feels like the camera is doing whatever it wants to do haha. Also when you are close to the wall, it sometimes goes outside of the level and you can't see anything.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! Glad you liked it! Sorry about the framerate drop. Some have said the download version runs better for them.

Thanks for weighing in on the camera issue. I'll explore these alternative control and camera schemes to improve it. And fix the camera out of bounds issue too!

Really awesome graphics and gory effects ! Hope you will continue working on it, because the camera was just quite a nightmare x)

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! I'm glad you liked the gore and graphics! :) Can you elaborate on what was wrong with the camera specifically? This has been my #1 complaint and I don't know why because the controls are trivially easy (I thought anyway) and the only problem I'm aware of with the camera is it clips through the outside boundary walls. I think for some reason people think they are supposed to control the camera, but it just gets behind you when you are moving.

I appreciate it. :)

Sure!
Yes in my opinion the camera is quite to fast, like she is rotate all the time when (i presume) she touch a part of the sets around.
So the feeling, for me anyway, is like you move in a direction, shoot in a other, have to change all the time because the camera cannot stay a little still.
I think it will be better if the camera was fix or more top down view. So you don't have this like rollercoster feeling while playing.
I don't know if you see what i trying to explaine to you?
(Also, if you could add a target for help the player to know where to shoot, will be very helpful i reckon ^^)

Developer

Thanks for the explanation! I think that makes sense. Slow the camera or even make it a fixed camera. That would be more in line with typical twin-stick shooters so that's probably more natural for players. I could do a target indicator too! Thanks!

My pleasure ! Your game is really fun and i looking forward for is future :)

The graphics are amazing! I'm so impressed you made it in a week!

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm glad you appreciate the effort! It helped that I was sick all week so had nothing to do but work on this! lol

This was pretty sweet! The alien designs were really cool and wacky and I loved the goop, guts, and blood VFX. The camera was a little annoying at times, especially when I was looking for ammo at the edge of the world, the camera would keep clipping through the walls of the sandbox. During combat the camera worked pretty well though because it seemed to always pull you toward enemies.  The webGL build was super laggy and choppy, so I installed the .zip, which worked great! Overall this was a really full experience for a game jam with a lot of great polish. Very well done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! I really appreciate the detailed feedback! The camera needs improvement for sure. I'm glad the download build worked better for you, and that you enjoyed it! Thank you!

The most complete 3D game I've played in the jam yet. The theme integration was integral to gameplay, and exploding guts are always a plus. The effects were seriously cool, and the pickups were clear. Thoughts for improvements would be that I want to see a reticle (for both mouse and controller) because of the specific moving perspective you went with, it can be hard to know where to look. Making effect quality scale with enemy number would help performance a lot too. I gave you suitably high rating, good work.

Developer

Thank you so much for the kind words and feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed it! In hindsight a different control scheme like you are describing would have been much more suitable. I appreciate it!

The audio and graphics where pretty good but after enough enemies spawned it good crazy laggy

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Sorry it can get pretty GPU intense, lol

Aiming was a bit hard but I really loved the atmosphere! VFX and SFX are so nice! It didn't feel like a game you'd play on browser!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it!

This game was WONDERFUL. The controls are a bit hard to use but once you get used to them it is a really fun game. The visual were also really great.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm relieved that you were able to get used to the controls. I'm assuming most people opted for mouse and keyboard which has proven to be surprisingly frustrating for a lot of players. I'm pleased you enjoyed it!

Really fun ! I enjoyed it ! Good visuals, good job !

Developer

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it!

So satisfying to fight my way through. I'm glad my gun didn't overheat :D

Developer

So good to hear! haha good!

Great action! This has real potential! I love the player animation and everything is very polished. Awesome work!

Can get pretty laggy at times in webgl (I have an oldish computer so no point deductions). Just saying, given time, it's something that might be looked into. The jump feels really floaty, doesn't fit super well with the rest of the action in my opinion.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the kind words and feedback! I agree the jump is lackluster.

I loved the graphics, Is a great game!!

Developer

Thanks so much! Glad you liked it!

Loved the graphics and the gameplay. Though I think the game was too heavy for the WebGL. It kinda started lagging when there were too many enemies on the screen. Fun game nonetheless.

Developer

I'm glad you liked it! I added a download option in case WebGL doesn't work for you. I should have made the game more friendly to a wider variety of PC specs.

Thanks for playing!

Gun game! But in terms of optimization, it trembles)

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for playing!

Did you mean to say "Fun" or "Gun?" And yeah I should have made it friendlier to a wider variety of PC specs.

amazing game but hard to aim

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!!

The game looks and sounds great, its definiely giving me some kind  of retro console vibes.  Jumping felt a bit floaty and the camera could have used a lot less smoothing i think, the auto aim helped a lot to combat that tho.

I also like the variety of enemies and that you got to kill a random fish.

Good job and congratz on submitting!

Developer

Thanks so much! Glad you appreciated the silly final boss. lol

Sound effects and visuals are really satisfying, though it got really laggy at the end. The controls feel really wierd though, I think that aim direction should be aligned with camera rotation, creating the 3rd person shooter feel.

Developer

Glad to hear the effects are satisfying! Not sure I understand your feedback though. It IS aligned relative to the camera. It's your standard twin-stick shooter. Not a 3rd person shooter where you are aiming a reticle, you're just controlling her facing direction.

Submitted(+1)

Basically since moving your mouse will change your aim and the camera rotation but in 2 different speeds, you cant really aim properly since 1 control affects 2 things. So they should either be separate inputs or aligned, like making aim based on mouse and camera movement based on Q/E.

Developer

Ah I see. Yeah I can definitely improve that. Hopefully it isn't detracting to much from the enjoyment of everything else.

Submitted

Since i noticed some auto-aim going on with the targeting, i think that making them aligned would be more suitable. So you moving the mouse would only rotate the camera and your character would shoot to the enemy closest to the north of the character from the camera’s PoV.

Developer

So left/right rotational rather than X/Y directional

Submitted

The game looks and sounds really good. I didn’t get the controls at all though, they seemed to have a life of their own.

Developer

Thanks! Were you at least able to destroy the objectives or anything? The controls are pretty standard twin-stick shooter, in case you've ever played those. She faces the direction you are moving the mouse. Camera just automatically gets behind you if you are running.

Submitted(+1)

Yes that worked. I will try it again - maybe I was too stupid :-)

Developer(+1)

Sweet, thanks! Well, it seems a lot of people are misunderstanding the controls, which is a learning lesson for me.

Submitted(+1)

That was really fun you even have VA on it great job.

Developer

Thank you! Glad it was fun!

Submitted(+1)

Very action packed!

Thanks for playing!
