In what way does your game fit the theme?
LazerKick features chaotic space battles full of scattered bullets, sudden explosions, and devastating collisions. The music track has unpredictable melodies to synergize with the gameplay.
Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
We made the graphics, audio, and code on our own. Except for the Space background, which we got from "LuminousDragonGames".

Very chaotic, very good looking and very fun game. I would love to see a multiplayer mod so I could fight my friends. One thing, sounds almost destroyed my ears when I started the game, but that was my fault for having my pc on max volume. :)
nice shoot 'em up game !!
It's a nice shoot 'em up that reminds me of a number of classic and not so well known arcade games. Kinda felt like your ability to control the ship with your thrusters, to be poor. Especially if you were attacking, in that it pushed you back too much. Still fun to play.
This game is excellent, I’m a huge fan of asteroids-style space shooters where a more force/acceleration system is incorporated and this game nails that. I also think having recoil on the firing is a really good addition to the formula, because it provides incentives to actually aim and be careful rather than spamming. I’d love to see a multiplayer version, because it’s a lot of fun and I could see it being great with friends. My only gripe would be it can be a little too easy to spin out of control sometimes, but this only happens occasionally and could easily be fixed by toning down the recoil a little or increasing the steering thrust.
Hey man thanks for the feedback! The spinning out definitely needs some work so we'll see what I can come up with! I definitely want to add multiplayer but boy does it seem daunting!
I'm glad you enjoyed the game :)
really
really good game
i had a lot of fun playing it :)
Really nice game! I love the controls and thrusters on the spaceships😄
Nice game, with that controll its sometime realy chaotic, and realy nice audio. Good job.
clean game, good job
Heya - thanks for the feedback! The "Battle" gamemode was definitely my favorite part of it too. Adding some drag is something to consider for sure. Maybe I'll make some maps with drag and others without drag based on the setting.
Nonetheless, I'm glad you liked the game :)
A fun Idea for the Jam because it really felt chaotic. Although I felt the controls annoying after some time and getting pushed around by everyone was fun at the beginning.
I really like the way of controlling the ship (reminds me of ksp), and its a pretty fun game. But I found it kind of annoying the ship being pushed back whenever I shoot.
One of the features I wanted to add during the jam was a screen transition whenever you changed levels. I wanted to include hints to help out new players. One of the hints would have been "Having a hard time with the kickback from your laser cannons? Try using your main thruster while shooting!" Another hint woulda been "flying at a wall at top speeds? Try shooting at it to slow yourself down!" But alas - I ran out of time and couldn't add that feature.
But anyways, thanks for playing the game! I'm gonna try to hone what I have after I'm able to post updates again :)
Really nice music and sound effects! I appreciated the level of work that went into trying to balance the physics of the ships through the gameplay, as well as the creation of ai enemies and teammates to fight alongside you.
I found the information in the corners of the screen a bit hard to read, the small text being all the same makes it a bit tricky to parse information at a glance.
Controlling your ship is definitely a challenge- a little frustrating at first, but after a few minutes of warming up I found it engaging trying to master the movement and timing! I found that I could have the most fun in this game when I gave up the hope for full control and allowed for a bit of chaos in my ships movement- trying to fire my shots in time with my ships spinning momentum proved to be much more successful and enjoyable than attempting to completely control my ship's movement, and I think that fits the theme of the jam perfectly.
Also, its entertaining thinking of a high stakes space battle where two superpowers are vying for control of a rare power source, and both are totally out of their element in zero gravity. Solid submission! If you ever add multiplayer I will be so hyped.
Hey man - I'm glad you enjoyed the game! I really appreciate the in-depth feedback. I'm fairly new to UI design, so I'm glad someone said something. Might have to take it back to the drawing board.
I'm thinking of creating multiplayer, so we'll see when that comes :)
Its very hard to control ship!
Certainly, a challenge! If the acceleration curve was tweaked a little and the ships where a little less bouncy, I might enjoy it a bit more. It's impossible to aim when it's impossible to stabilize the ship.
I like the challenge of a physics-based space shooter, and I like the ship designs! Keep working on it and this could turn into a competitive combat game!
Hey man, I appreciate the feedback. It's a good idea to tweak the acceleration/bounciness after the jam to make the game more enjoyable! I made them the way they were to make the game really chaotic, however I may have made things too chaotic at times :P
I see that a lot of people didn't like the controls, but I actually thought the controls were one of the strengths. Sure, like any jam game they could use a little tweaking, but I like that you have to master the skill of maneuvering in this realistic style. Also nice job with the AI, it seemed to play very naturally.
Hey man, I'm glad you liked the game! The mastery component was definitely something I was going for on this one! I'd like to do some experimentation and slight tweaks with the side thrusters on some of the ships, and will probably release a patch after the judging closes for the jam : )
Like the concept! Handling on the ships was definitely tough
I wish I had a little bit more Control over my ship. Hard to navigate lol. good game overall!! good job!
This is a tough game to play and control
Dam its really hard to play, need to better those setings
I appreciate the feedback! I intended to have the controls be difficult and provide a pseudo realistic experience as a fighter jet in space. Difficult controls are one of your enemies in this one!
It's so fun to play! Visuals are great as well, I liked the glow of the beams. It's a little bit hard tho.
