LazerKick features chaotic space battles full of scattered bullets, sudden explosions, and devastating collisions. The music track has unpredictable melodies to synergize with the gameplay.

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
We made the graphics, audio, and code on our own. Except for the Space background, which we got from "LuminousDragonGames".

Really nice music and sound effects! I appreciated the level of work that went into trying to balance the physics of the ships through the gameplay, as well as the creation of ai enemies and teammates to fight alongside you.

I found the information in the corners of the screen a bit hard to read, the small text being all the same makes it a bit tricky to parse information at a glance.

Controlling your ship is definitely a challenge- a little frustrating at first, but after a few minutes of warming up I found it engaging trying to master the movement and timing! I found that I could have the most fun in this game when I gave up the hope for full control and allowed for a bit of chaos in my ships movement- trying to fire my shots in time with my ships spinning momentum proved to be much more successful and enjoyable than attempting to completely control my ship's movement, and I think that fits the theme of the jam perfectly.

Also, its entertaining thinking of a high stakes space battle where two superpowers are vying for control of a rare power source, and both are totally out of their element in zero gravity. Solid submission! If you ever add multiplayer I will be so hyped.

Hey man - I'm glad you enjoyed the game! I really appreciate the in-depth feedback. I'm fairly new to UI design, so I'm glad someone said something. Might have to take it back to the drawing board.

I'm thinking of creating multiplayer, so we'll see when that comes :)

Its very hard to control ship!

Certainly, a challenge! If the acceleration curve was tweaked a little and the ships where a little less bouncy, I might enjoy it a bit more. It's impossible to aim when it's impossible to stabilize the ship.

I like the challenge of a physics-based space shooter, and I like the ship designs! Keep working on it and this could turn into a competitive combat game!

Hey man, I appreciate the feedback. It's a good idea to tweak the acceleration/bounciness after the jam to make the game more enjoyable! I made them the way they were to make the game really chaotic, however I may have made things too chaotic at times :P

I see that a lot of people didn't like the controls, but I actually thought the controls were one of the strengths. Sure, like any jam game they could use a little tweaking, but I like that you have to master the skill of maneuvering in this realistic style. Also nice job with the AI, it seemed to play very naturally.

Developer

Hey man, I'm glad you liked the game! The mastery component was definitely something I was going for on this one! I'd like to do some experimentation and slight tweaks with the side thrusters on some of the ships, and will probably release a patch after the judging closes for the jam : )

Like the concept! Handling on the ships was definitely tough

I wish I had a little bit more Control over my ship. Hard to navigate lol. good game overall!! good job!

This is a tough game to play and control

Submitted

Dam its really hard to play, need to better those setings

Developer (1 edit)

I appreciate the feedback! I intended to have the controls be difficult and provide a pseudo realistic experience as a fighter jet in space.  Difficult controls are one of your enemies in this one!

It's so fun to play! Visuals are great as well, I liked the glow of the beams. It's a little bit hard tho.

This game really felt like a tanked.io game, my only issue is controls other than that If there was a multiplayer I would definitely play this. Great game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for playing man!

The controls sure are challenging, but there's room for mastery!

And multiplayer does sound really fun, honestly.

Game is very well made, the controls are pretty tricky but when you get a hang of em it becomes a fun space shooter with tons of action ^^

Developer

Hey man! Thanks a lot for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Lazerkick has insane polish and amount of content for a week of game dev. yeah not much else to say, very classic simple game, only thing i find lacking is integration of theme

Developer

Heya, thanks for playing man! I appreciate the feedback!

The original intent was that the battle stock full of ships and goofy AI would inherently create chaotic gameplay, but whether that panned out to fit the theme perfectly is a roll of the dice.

Very Interesting Concept, but controls were a bit hard to use and the ship respawn system could be better

Overall: Nice Game.

I had fun playing this but controls were really hard to master. I accidentally killed my own teammate instead of the enemy… Really nice tho, especially if it would have been a multiplayer.

Developer

Multiplayer is the best way to move this game forwards for sure!

Submitted(+1)

Love the game concept! Future Development Idea is to make this game multiplayer. The movement is quite confusing but very interesting indeed! Love the neon bullets! Really makes your game stand out!

Developer

Heya - thanks for the review! I'm glad that you lied the neon style :)

Wow, this game should be a real time multiplayer, I had so much fun and I think this concept of a game could be as a 1 v 1 v 1 v1 game, you have something very good here upgrade it even more!!

Developer

Heya - thanks for the feedback! I think it would be awesome to turn this game into a multiplayer version. It is a bit daunting, but will definitely be worth it if enough people are interested!

Submitted

Set it as a challenge for you ;D

The movement is a little confusing at first but fun to use once you've gotten used to it.

The gameplay itself is quite fun as you have the ability to launch other ships flying if you land your shots well.

And then the music is a very nice choice for the environment

Developer

Hey man! Thanks for playing the game! And thanks for playtesting - it's always incredibly helpful to get opinions when I'm fine-tuning the game balance!

Submitted(+1)

I like the overall idea and design! I couldn't really figure out the controls but I think the overall game is pretty simple and fun.

Developer (1 edit)

Oh no! What about the controls was confusing?

The controls were Arrow keys and Spacebar - I meant to add WASD but ran out of time!

Submitted(+1)

I think the physics might be a bit off? The inertia whenever you move completely ruins your aim so a bit less force might be good for the movement. I really enjoy the concept of rotating to turn though!

Heya! Thanks a lot for the feed back!

I'm glad you enjoyed the game - even gladder that it was hard at first but you adapted to it :)

I was really shooting for a game that was "Challenging but rewarding" with this one. And I've rated your game!

Asteroids grew up and became a better game. Nice job! I really like the soundtrack.

Thanks for playing! I love the soundtrack too man. I'm bugging my music guy Bonq to upload the music tracks to his Soundcloud so I can listen to em whenever I want.
