In what way does your game fit the theme?
you're rewinding, controls are like you are rewinded and the story is about a evil facility that develops time manipulator
Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
yes. all the code are from me. but i took the missile from a brackeys' video about homing missile. thanks for the missile lol. other than that it's all original

An interesting take on the theme; I've played another game that had the same concept (The End Is The Beginning), but the problem I have with this approach is that the way a player approaches the levels when 'rewinding' is not the same as how a player plays a level from the 'normal' way (i.e. level 1 forward), as demonstrated when I got to the end and then had to go back through normally (some parts you just fall down rather than have to jump precisely). I dont know if that's really anything you can change or fix tbh, just a comment on how it isnt exactly playing as if you were rewinding a game :P (also it would be a pretty weird game design if the final level i.e. lvl10 was one of the easiest in the game :P ). I did quite like the effect of the bullets rewinding though.
It is interesting how the brain gets in a flow of treating left as right and vice versa, but as soon as you stop for a moment it gets confused on the next jump haha (like i would complete 10 jumps with ease; then have a break on a platform, and the next jump i would be confused hahaha, silly brain).
Only real comments I would say in terms of what to improve are:
>the game would be helped with audio (i didn't hear any, was there any?) to set a mood
>You should let the player know what button is shoot rather than telling them it isn't left mouse click (why wasn't it left mouse click btw? I dont think W is the opposite of left mouse click :P I expected shoot to be S when going the 'normal' way )
>The post processing effects were cool initially, but later on got a bit strainy on the eyes I felt; nothing too major, but I think they could be toned down a bit.
A decent platformer overall though :)
Oh Cool, about the audio, it's because there are none. because i'd rather made it silent rather than messing the whole game with audio that doesn't fit but i'm currently finding the audios. and maybe the film grain is too heavy that it hurts my eyes too (my playtesters didn't complain about this so i thought it was just me). and shooting seems too easy with left click. so here it is! shooting with W. Thanks for the honest feedback bro! I'll change them and spice the game up again.
Yeah fair enough I guess.
I think it was the chromatic aberation (is that what its called) that was a bit much for me tbh; the static maybe would get annoying too but i didn't find it as bad as the chromatic aberation.
You're welcome! I think there was a lot of good in the game (i just tend to focus on the potential areas of improvement in my reviews; hope it didn't seem too negative, sorry if it did).
Well, I give up.
Really tried to get into the game, but the level 9's missiles were way too annoying.
The comments are talking about shooting, but I didn't find any way to do that, even by trying all the keys.
So, I ragequitted.
From the little that I played :
-It didn't really feel like a rewind. Sure the controls and level numbers are in reverse, but the physics are working as usual, the missiles are going from a launcher and straight toward a point. If you wanted to make a rewinding game, you should have though about everything in reverse, so for instance the missiles should be going from their end wall backward into the launcher, to really give this feeling.
-The jump felt way too floaty. This made the missile section even worse, since you either end up not jumping fast enough, or staying too long in the air and getting caught up by the other missiles. But you said that there is a fix ready, so I'll try it again after the jam.
-If the shooting button exists, it's a bad idea. I get the point of trolling with a secret way to do this. But since it seems to be a core mechanic, as you suggest it as a way to get past those pesky missiles, it gets really frustrating.
-The polish part felt weird. Like, the graphisms are really basic, and there is no sound from what I've seen. But the static/vcr visual effect was great, which made the mix feel strange.
Overall, it's fixable and not a bad game per se, but you need to work on your difficulty curve.
So, I feel that there is work, and it could become a nice game, but it needs to be fixed first.
But keep creating game, it was a good first attempt.
Woahh, I didn't actually intended to make a rage game but, i'll just tell you that the key to shoot is W. yes, it's weird. about the floaty jump, i felt it but didn't know how to fix it and just let it be. i tried making the missiles rewinded but it resulted in my playtester quitted since it's like glitched. But thanks for your honest feedback. i'll implement your feedback once online school give me a break.
Okay, tried it again and updated my rating.
It feels way better when you know how to shoot.
The bullets were a bit small, and hard to see with the VCR effect, so be careful with that.
The checkpoint mechanic felt pretty weird. Any reason to use this "closest check" rather than classic checkpoints that needs you to touch them ?
And again, take note for your next games, don't try hiding keys from your player, even more when they need them to play.
But hey, when you know the controls, your game gets kinda good, so nice work here.
I liked it, it has many interesting mechanics and fits the theme really well!
I really like the inverted controls idea. I did feel there where a few collision issues
My brain is now flipped over. Thanks.
Brilliant idea with rewinding the hole game.
Missed some nice rewinded sounds.
I like the concept a lot, the game felt buggy at times though and there was a lot of random teleporting that I wasn't sure was intentional or not, but nicely done overall!
I really liked the sarcastic tone that the game has going for it, as well as forcing the player to play with the controls backwards. I also enjoy the grey-ish palette along with the static effect that's occurring on screen; those two aesthetics seem to fit really well together. The one thing I feel should be fixed is that the jump feels kind of floaty, which made it way too difficult to complete the missile section since my character was falling down too slowly.
I would suggest looking at the video, Better Jumping in Unity With Four Lines of Code, it really helped me grasp the concept on how to make your character jumping feel more responsive and satisfying.
Wow the idea is probably the most unique one I saw in this game jam. Aesthetics are spot on, exactly how I imaged the rewind would look like. The gameplay is very satisfying once you get the grip of the controls and are able to beat some sections of the game faster. The only thing that is missing in my opinion is music and sound. If the sounds were done right that would truly make the game alive.
Some neat ideas for sure! When I was asked to just guess the jump length (I wanna say level 7 or 6?), I died and the checkpoint I went to was level 2. Was that intentional? I feel like I skipped a good part of the game by accident.
Hey nice idea and graphics. Found the missile level way to hard, "don't be afraid to die a couple of times", I was destroyed a million times. Maybe just implement an "easy mode" in the options for people that want to experience the whole game by playing with normal keybinds, maybe my rusty non-epic gamer skills would have passed level 9 :(
