How does your game fit the theme?
Before jumping into the fight, you can calm your nerves by taking a deep breath. Channeling calm slows down time.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Everything except the music and SFX.
SFX were all from ChipTone or Pixabay (royalty free).
Music is from TallBeard Studios' Music Loop Bundle.

Awesome game. There is something weirdly stressful about five red guys sprinting towards you.

This games super cool! I love the procedural animation on the character's legs, feels great to play. Awesome work on this one!

I love your calm mechanic, the way you have slowed down the music in rhythm as well felt super satisfying to pull off. I also loved your procedural animations on the feet, made me laugh watching the figures hot step everywhere. Really cool and enjoyable game!

Very cool mechanic that felt really good to pull off. Only thing I wished was for the attack to be linked to the mouse so I could attack behind me. Still great little top down action experience. The last scene was especially chaotic, but like the description said if you calmed down it was very simple. Great entry! Had a lot of fun with this one.

Slowing time was really cool, especially how it slows the music down too. The hitlag on attacks gave them a weighty feel. I would say the game feels a little too overwhelming later on when there are lots of enemies and turrets on a long map. Slowing time doesn't last long enough in these situations and there isn't anywhere other than the start of the level where you can safely enter calm.

Ty for the feedback! :)
That level is the final level so I deliberately made it super hard. When you hit an enemy the time rate stays locked for a second. Also, the time rate regens slower at lower time rates. The trick for that level is to space out your hits by a second to maximum your low time rate, and channel calm at every opportunity. When the time rate is super low, if you just move a bit left or right then channel calm immediately you should have enough time to get another round of slow in.

Hee-ho. Cool game. Very smooth movement, very nice

The running animation and the art style fit together nicely, would have like it if I could use mouse for attacking and direction where I'm attacking, but all and all good job!
And if you have time, would appreciate if you could check game I worked on: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-12/rate/2974095

Fun game overall! The combat can be a bit tricky, especially when it's hard to avoid taking damage, but maybe I just need more practice. I also ran into the teleport bug, but glad to hear it’s fixed! Great potential, keep up the good work!

This game is pretty fun. I personally dislike in games when you're forced to take damage during combat, though maybe i just suck lol. Also, like everyone else, I got stuck on one level where I defeated all the enemies but the teleport pad didn't light up! Fix the bug and you've got a great game on your hands! 😁

Heya, ty for the feedback. I've re-uploaded with a fix for the teleporter not triggering. It's a lot easier to dodge enemy attacks when you slow down time :)

I saw you post a video of your work in the Discord, I fell in love with the movement it's so awesome, it's fast and the two little legs pumping is great! This little guy reminds me of 'Fresno night crawlers', was that the inspiration hahah.

I think I got to the ending, I couldn't teleport any further. I still don't know what calming myself did, but I felt calming in real life when I did it, the aesthetics in this game are dimple, yet powerful.

Developer

Thank you! I've not actually heard of Fresno Night Crawlers, I'll have to check it out. The inspo was actually my lack of art skills - all the shapes and characters are defined with maths. 😅

There is actually an issue with the game at the moment that stops the teleporter opening to the next level. I'll try to upload a fixed version and I'll let you know.

Developer

I've fixed the issue with the teleporter not activating :)

The game is very interesting and fun, but do not worry, just solve the bug and keep it up!!

Developer

Ty. Bug has been fixed :)

Developer (1 edit)

Seems like there's a game breaking bug where the exit teleporter doesn't activate if you die on a level.

 :(

I'll try and upload a version with a fix ASAP.

EDIT: Teleporter bug has now been fixed. :)

Hey ! Quite impressive game. I love how the characters walk that's just really fun. And the slow motion effect you have when you take a breath is a really promising concept event if I found myself missing the good timing and ended waiting for the calm powerup to reload. It feels like with a really solid level design this game can become quite unique. Anyways, well done !

By the way I don't know if that was intended but I couldn't continue further after the level were you first encounter the purplish guys shooting lasers. I cleaned the map but the level end didn't unlock.
