I can confirm with very high certainty that you cheated. All the fake accounts you created have been suspended, but at this time I will not make any changes to the ranking without permission of the host. They have been notified.

Generally for jams with public voting we encourage hosts to use the “Rating queue” which prevents people from opening new accounts instantly to rate their own game by forcing those who did not participate in the jam rate from a random selection of games. I’ll make sure the hosts know about this in the future for any other jams they host. Otherwise, public voting is almost always completely unreliable due to cheating, especially for higher profile jams.

Edit: I did a quick analysis of the votes in this jam and spotted a few other entries that show obvious signs of voter fraud. I’ll see about getting them disqualified as well.

Thanks

I maintain that I did not cheat.

Are you saying that you did not create any fake accounts to do voting for your game?

Personally I think only the people taking part in the jam are eligible to rate games. Bringing random outsiders in feels weird, but that's just me.

The rating in here just does make no sense. I think the rating should be outside of the "competition " by yyg and opera. If the most rated game won the whole jam what would be the point then?
As there are many games which received only a few votes compared to other games which recieved huge amount of votes.. but better question is, were those votes by jam submitters orby someone outside of this competition?

TLTR: I am REALLY glad that yyg and opera team will decide on their own =) and "ranking" or "community voting" will make least impact

I want to apologize for my comment in the Internal Judging Review - Winners. The last thing I want to do is dissuade a game dev from making games. I'm glad you were able to make your family and friends and your friends' friends play your game. Games are meant to be played and there is nothing wrong with that :)

I looked at other games and I could say that you were not the only one who let their friends play (I could tell as the accounts that commented were just a few days old and only made that one comment)

Now I hope you didn't lie and  just make a bunch of new accounts to rate your game.  That's just wrong as you are not only fooling others, but also yourself.

We with work with influencers and all sorts, got connections because of publishers and YouTubers I've worked with in the past, we could have easily asked those influencers to put tweets out etc. encouraging people to vote, and we purposely chose not to do that, because a Game Jam shouldn't be a popularity contest, and the idea of it felt crappy to do. We want people to judge games on their own merit, and we joined in here to have fun and be creative. We only ranked top 30 in one category and that's fine.

If you made a bunch of dummy accounts you were cheating. If you just asked a lot of people you know to sign up just to vote, I guess it's technically not cheating but it's not exactly good competition is it? These things are supposed to be ranked for creativity and achievement, not how many people you know.

It was awfully kind of one of your commenters who is definitely not you to come and take offence to cheating accusations wasn't it? Ya know, the one who said "I played lots of games and this was the one I liked best" despite not leaving any comments on any other games :D I noticed we had one guy show up and make an account just to vote & comment on ours, so clearly it is a thing that happens. But there was a LOT of them on your game, many all on the same day as well. And it's not just you, there are a few other games with weirdly high number of votes where several comments came from newly created accounts. Whether they are dummy accounts or legit (a bizarrely high number of) friends/family coming in to support them you can't blame people who just submitted a game and voted on others for not being keen on that.

Anyway, I've said my piece. Nothing personal. I think in the future people should have to have submitted their own game to vote because it's too easily messed with, whether they are dummy accounts or not.

Like others here, I'm glad that YYG/Opera will be deciding the final ones.

I don't think any game jam should be set up as a popularity contest to begin with! I don't blame you at all and I don't think you cheated in any way, it was just a strange set up and a bit confusing for everyone. What you did was not against any rules. Luckily they have said that those voted scores won't be a factor in their final decisions, so anyone accusing you of "cheating" is just being silly at this point. If you are new to game dev, just keep in mind that there are a lot of overly competitive people that get really negative during game jams, just ignore them and keep doing what you love.

Oh damn, I didn't expect them to get out of itch.
