this is lovely thank you

This is a really impressive entry given the time constraints. The map feels expansive and I easily found myself getting lost when I didn't have the guidance of a friendly spider. The sounds all fit very contribute to making the game world feel real. I wasn't able to beat the game but I did have a lot of fun playing and was impressed by how much game there is.

Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your feedback, it was a hefty ride to tackle! The map is not that big tho, although it may feel like that and you will get lost due to the lack of Landmarks (which was not the plan but an accepted problem). I am already working on improving the entire game for the final version. I highly appreciate that you found the entry interesting. If you plan on completing it, the Storage device is in the first big room. and you need to bring it to the AI to trigger the final sequence.  Not much more. I am glad you had fun playing it! Thanks again!

i may have died more times than i can count, but at least the spider is safe!

this was really cool, although quite stressful xd! first of all the environment looks really good! the ship's layout goes crazy with a bunch of twists and turns, which then leads into these unique and distinct looking rooms, with each one feeling like they realistically serve a purpose on the ship, thus increasing the immersion! the texture work, models, lighting, and the models all look really good together too, really evoking the feeling of a broken ship on the brink of breaking down! the sound effects also add to this and give really nice feedback to whatever is happening on the screen!

unfortunately i was not able to finish the game, wasn't able to find the storage device :(. i'd tend to get lost while navigating the ship (i don't have a good short term memory xd), and it took a while for me to understand what to do (it was kind of hard for me to make out the ship's alert voice with the other ambient sounds in the background). the game would really benefit with some kind of objective list or maybe even a writable notepad to keep track of what you already did and what you need to do!

still i really like the visuals and the game loop concept, was fun around to frantically look for oxygen tanks while trying to learn about the ships layout, great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for saving the spider! Thank you  I worked all the rooms, textures, materials, and objects in the game. I knew that if I wanted to do something like this, I needed to convey the situation through the environment, but I could not spend all the time on the environment so reusability and creative use of the already-done assets was key. And I think it paid off quite nicely. (Although a little extra variety would have lifted it)
It is noted that objectives are key to not getting the player lost, and I did think of it but didn't find a way to do it as I wanted.
The oxygen is known to be the worst issue, but it has already been resolved.
The sound system was not completely well balanced, but I have improved it since. It is due to a bad balancing of the audio sources min distance, overall volume, and the 3D settings. Unity's 3D sound system is a little wonky to fine-tune for me.
SD is in the first room. don't worry about not finishing it. It is hard to find. bringing it to the AI only triggers a final sequence of events that evoke you to escape. the ship with the final cinematic and credits roll.
Thank you so much for your feedback, it will help future people, to enjoy this game better!
I highly appreciate that you found this interesting, it's my first Jam entry! :D

My oxygen depleted exactly as I reached the spider the first time so I thought it killed me! Then I noticed bottles to refill the oxygen so I understood that was the limiting resource. I know that the idea of the game is to play someone with a lack of memory but it really feels like we don't have enough clear objectives. Once I understood the spider was friendly and I followed it, it just entered the teleporter without giving me any idea of what I needed to do. So I kept dying again and again the lack of oxygen and getting lost in the spacecraft's labyrinth.

But the environment and visuals and very nice and polished and I like the little cinematic at the beginning, so well done ;)

Developer

Thank you so much for your feedback, I have to apologise for not properly handling the life oxygen support part, as it depletes fast, and the storage device, for only leaving one, to retrieve.  That's on me, it would have been more helpful to place 3 or 4 of them in different rooms so it could be easier to encounter without depleting your oxygen.  It was thought that when you restarted you would rather focus on finding that something. and then you would "know" how to complete it even in that run. When she gets to the teleport there is a cabin with an offline Unit, i thought it would hint to the players to turn on something aboard the ship maybe I should have hinted "Electricity Offline" so it would be clearer what is supposed to be done. It's my first ever jam entry so I'm happy with how it came out.

I highly appreciate your feedback as it will help improve the game so people in the future will have a better experience! Thank you!

I enjoyed how the game spooks you with the blue friend at first. My criticisms are similar to what the other commenters mentioned. It took me a lot of tries to reach the ending because of the O2 meter and the storage device was really easy to miss. Also it seems like you can "overcharge" your O2 tank beyond what the gauge shows you.

Still, I enjoyed the atmosphere, the visuals were pretty nice for a jam game, and it felt like you were having fun making it. I hope you keep honing your skills!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you! It was intended to spook you at first ;) (But then you adore her, she's lovely)
Yes, the fact that overfilling your oxygen is the greatest feature of the game yet is not a feature, makes me concerned. Although I did know about it, and forgot to fix it, I think it turned out better than expected with how refilled you can feel!
Nah to be honest i should have paid more attention to the life support system. and brought it back to its original intended design, my bad.
Yes the Storage device was intended to be more easily found. I should have placed a few more around. something I did in the next day's fix.

Thank you. I did spend a little time trying to get the atmosphere right. and I did enjoy a LOT doing it. although it was a stressful joy, I think it paid off as my first-ever jam entry!
I thank you a lot for the feedback you provided! I appreciate it!

Wow, that's a lot of work, location is just huge.

There is a few issues, though. To prevent the character to stuck to the walls, you can add a physical material and set a bounce to some small value. It takes a few minutes, but helps drastically. Also, would be great to have some sound indication, when the oxygen level is low. Did two times before figuring it out) And at least some objective system to know, what to do)

Developer(+1)

I did make the player quite quickly without paying much attention to mobility issues. and indeed i found such a mobility problem. which I thought was fixed with a physic material that was set to frictionless. but I guess it didn't. The reason seems to be this one

The averages are maximised

The friction and the bouncines are set to zero but the combination turns always to the maximum friction and bouncines posible of the other objects without physical material.
Thank you for pointing out the problem I didn't realise.

Indeed it was a lot of work, to make the map alone, albeit I did model myself some set of models for the ship rooms that fitted like a lego between each other, something that thankfully sped up a little the creation of the final map.  Although extra iterations of models and minor issues to fix were a toll to pay.
I wanted to add sound indications for oxygen as well as the breathing sound but I didn't find time for that.
A simple objective layout was thought as well as labels for the rooms and a map. but things went too fast, the map changed, and some things required more attention than others  So I scrapped some half-done ideas.  At some point, I even asked myself whether the computers made the cut.  They did thank god.
Thank you! I highly appreciate your feedback!

Cool game. I liked running around, but kept dying to lack of oxygene. This game needs a map and a list of objectives. And oxigene shouldn't drain while looking at the map since it should be familiar to the character while not familiar to the player. SO in in-game ogic the character only takes a glance, while the player needs some time. Or you could do color lines on the floor leading to rooms with the names of the rooms written in the breaks of those lines in the same color. It would fit the space station vibe. Otherwise running around like a headless chicken with a timelimit having to remember the layout fast is very frustrating.

Developer

Yep, the lack of oxygen is the true killer of this game. and that's on me for modifying the depletion to test various things of the death sequence but never touching it again to leave it as it was intended.  My apologies!
The room labellings and the map were on the schedule, but unfortunately,  I never got to implement them due to changes in the layout middle stage and lack of planning time. I am eventually adding this to the Final game. as well as the objectives that are a much-needed addition. I am glad you think it is cool!  Thank you for your feedback. it means a lot to me!

Well, nice game. I like space matters. I liked the graphics, the spider kinda jump scared me. I feel like the environment is a bit dark. Best of luck

Developer

Thank you, it was the intended pun to see you jump scared by the spider. That was a thing. I knew it was dark once my brother tested it in an HDR monitor. But I couldn't account for the brightness that day.  Thank you so much for your feedback I greatly appreciate it

Submitted(+1)

Lol, fell out the map

The game is graphically impressive. Gameplay wise needs a bit of polish. I feel that the exploration is being harmed by the oxygen feature. Oxygen keeps draining even when reading the computer. There is indeed various oxygen tanks, however not even 3 of them fill a complete oxygen bar. So exploration is very punished by this. Also it needs a list of objectives because I have no idea what we are supposed to do. I also found a spider, but then I died while following her due to lack of oxygen, and then I was never able to find her again in the second try.

The setting already looks pretty good. Best of luck!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for this beautiful image! You found the secret xD

The exploration is indeed being harmed by the oxygen feature. it wasn't supposed to be this way, because I sped up the depletion to test various things. And never touched it again. and that's on me.  I'm glad you found the computers Interesting. as is an in-dev feature that is yet to be fully exploited in the game. I simply used them to sprinkle some badly done information and see if they worked as intended and for the end Sequence. I will make sure there is a way to know better the target objectives as its clear that no one will know.  The spider is supposed to follow you and target you anywhere on the ship. but to keep a distance from you. so maybe she never got as close to showing off.  Thank you so much for your feedback it is greatly appreciated.!

i played the game for a while. The map is big and feels like a maze, nice graphics, the game is pretty full of things although most of the map is the same assets but i'm not expecting more of a jam game. There is a part tough where you fall to the void and have to wait until the oxygen runs out to restart that could have been shortened a lot. In general a solid game

Developer(+1)

I'm glad that you played it for a while. and explored even the unintended features of the game, Thanks! I modelled the entire thing myself, trying to avoid creating a ton of unique time-consuming models and texturing them, so I sought to create basic and re-usable models I could sort of need for the ship and reused them as much as I could. Similar thing with the interconnecting rooms.  So I am sort of proud of the entire outcome of the map. although the blatant labyrinthic nature of it brings the thing down a little I knew you could fall, I didn't fix it because I forgot, but it's currently fixed. :) I appreciate a lot your feedback. Thank you!

Submitted(+1)

It has a very good atmosphere, but it feels like a labyrinth and you run out of oxygen very quickly, also you end up falling off the map

Developer(+1)
I am with you man how can this even exist?  The atmosphere is there, but the polish is crude! (Just joking)

Nah you're right, I didn't properly handle the oxygen part on my end, and, I even knew about this problematic interactable door, that led to the fall off the map but i sort of forgot in the late-night last-day fixing. I apologise for such an experience and want to let you know that i am working on making this a fully-fledged game. In which I have already solved many of these issues! I appreciate a lot your feedback as a first-time Jammer!  Thank you!

Nice looking game - I like the graphics...

It was a little confusing to know where to go, I followed the spider but still ran out of axygen, even though I'd refilled it at the tanks along the way. It seemed like it ran out too quickly as I wasn't sure where I was going...

Still, I enjoyed the game, it looked fantastic - great job! :)

Developer(+1)

I knew the oxygen part could be problematic in the game. but yet I wanted to add a little tension, initially, it was thought to run out after 5 minutes, which would give you more than enough time to even complete the game without needing any extra oxygen. I ended up shortening it for testing of death animation, etc, but, I didn't change it back the last day.
I had plans to add room labelling and a room floor map with colours at the start but since the map design changed during development  it was not fit.  It's my first ever Jam so Thank you,  your feedback means a lot!

Submitted(+1)

The atmosphere and the graphics are a high point! You created a nice world in this game.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback It's my first try and it's greatly appreciated!

Submitted(+1)

Didn't check the options until a friend pointed me out, so I spent my first run at like 5fps lol.
Looked cool, but it was a bit confusing in what was the objective. Anyways I hope that you keep learning and improving in what you wish to learn, never give up!

Developer(+1)

Glad that the options worked! Thank you for your feedback, it's my first time making a finished something ever in such a short period. So I highly appreciate the fact you came by to let me know this. I will ensure to make things a little clearer for the objectives next time! Not giving up, I love developing and learning.  Again thank you so much for your feedback it means a lot to me.  :)

Unfortunately I was not able to play this game to its fullest.
I have multiple monitors and the cursor is not locked, so my cursor keeps going into different monitors and pausing the game if I click off. Iirc, this can be solved through the Cursor.lockState function in unity, although im not sure if this jam will allow an update to a submission.

Developer

I, unfortunately, could not test this game with more than one monitor, I am sorry for that, wasn't aware of this issue,
I don't know if updates are allowed, but, maybe we can post a bugfix downloadable update aside from the original file submission? that way there are two differentiated files. This is my first game jam, I tried.  Tomorrow  I Will bring a fix to that as well with a brightness fix for people with HDR monitors who see black most of the time. other minor cursor-related,  and Typo related issues .  There is a literally Unplayable typo in the main menu!  :)  Thanks for the feedback

(+1)

Remind me to try it out again when the cursor issue fixed! Even with the cursor oversight I was still intruiged :3

Developer

Hello, I am happy to let you know that the cursor issue you had and some others have been fixed!  I uploaded a separate version outside of this submission, so it doesn't break the rules. for anyone interested in actually playing the game if they could not due to a bug.  :D And again thank you for your feedback!
