A cute little story (and the suited shrimps were *chefs kiss*). Great job and good work tying in all the themes!

Developer

Thanks!! I thought the world level format was pretty well suited to at least referencing all the themes in a fun a way.... (and yes the shrimps are my FAVORITES, I wish I could get a plushie.)

Very well done. took some while to figure out puzzle mechanics, and lost all my gambles, I think it's rigged.

Developer

Yeah, you're not supposed to ACTUALLY play on the money machines to get the money you need... that's the point; you can't rely on fate. (It can be pretty fun though.)

And, I'm going to take a moment to talk about this; it's not rigged! It's pure probability.
You have three "dice". Each dice can be one of 6 values, from 1 to 6. You only win if you match all three numbers.

You have 3d6 so the total number of possible results of the draw is 6*6*6 = 216.
The winning combinations are {1,1,1}, {2,2,2}, {3,3,3}, {4,4,4}, {5,5,5}, {6,6,6}.  Simple right? The game even notifies you when you match two— you don't win, but you get told that you were almost there.

So you have 216 possibilities and 6 winning possibilities... but that means there are 210 ways to lose.

In the end... you have 6/216 chances to win, which simplifies to 1/36.
35 times out of 36, statistically, you lose. I won once when I was testing the mechanic? But you'll want to play quite a lot of rounds to experience winning!

I COULD make you more likely to match all three numbers. For example, I could make it roll two numbers, and then roll the last one between the range of the other two. But that would be rigging it. And it also kind of misses the point of the whole level, which is to figure out you can't rely on gambling.

Interesting that the normal probabilities made you feel like you were being cheated though, right? Rolling three dice to match them all doesn't sound difficult, but it's actually a really tiny chance.

Regardless, thanks for playing! I hope this'll have been an interesting tidbit ^^

I think I went back to the start for some reason, I might have taken the wrong portal? Either way, I loved the effort in this one, well done, I really enjoyed it

Developer(+1)

You can go back and forth between worlds if you care to! You also have items that teleport you to worlds you have completed. Thank you for playing, I'm so happy you enjoyed the game ^^

Really nice game, the boss is obviously the best character, who doesn't love a top-hat crab?

Developer

Wasn't expecting such great quality from a game jam game! The graphics are great and the music is so fitting! Amazing job!

Developer

I'm glad you liked it! Sam did an amazing job with the sounds and music, you're right ^^ As for the graphics, turns out working in 1 bit speeds up the process a LOT, so I got to do quite a bit of that. (I'd also  mostly figured out how tiles line up beforehand so it was mostly just a matter of drawing it out afterwards, sometimes I'd just add individual lines on the tilesheet to fit the graphics but it's really just a matter of taking simple basic shapes and adding collision liberally haha)
