The 2nd 1-Bit Weekend Jam is taking hold!

"Sometimes liberty can be found through limitation. 1-Bit Weekend aims to free you from the constraints of endless possibility by challenging you to work with a bounded visual aesthetic. What do we mean by 1-bit? For this jam, pick any two colors you'd like and make whatever you'd like with them -- we're not requiring you to stick to black and white or any specific hardware limitations -- just build to web if you can, as that will increase the chances that your game actually gets played. Feel free to work solo or on a team!"

This jam runs September 11th 2020 at 00:00 CDT to September 13th 2020 at Midnight CDT, and you can submit at any time during the jam.  Please create all content (music, sound fx, art) during the jam. You are allowed to reuse code for the tedious bits like camera, collisions, etc. If you're not able to do adhere to this rule, please make sure to note which assets were not developed during the jam. It's totally cool to use whatever engine you want! 

Voting will run from the end of the jam to the end of September 17th.

We've created a Discord server so you all can collaborate, discuss, get help, and form teams.

We'll be offering a $100 prize for the top entry, as ranked by your fellow contestants. Note that we'll be issuing this as an Amazon gift card to keep it simple (we can likely only send these to US residents, but we might be able to find a way otherwise).

Themes

This game jam enforces a theme. You can pick from any of the three themes or use all three (or two, or whatever). There WILL be a grading category for whether or not you utilized at least one.

The three themes for this 1 Bit Weekend are...

• Astrology
• Casino/Gambling
• Chemistry

As mentioned before, you must pick at least one, but you can use two or all three if you choose! Themes are a graded category.

Optional Challenges

• Compose a chiptune soundtrack. Try playing with an older tracker tool like Milkytracker.
• Use Game Maker Studio 2 and implement Pixelated Pope's Retro Palette Swapper (check out how we did it here)
• Share your source code with the community!
