I really liked the music and atmosphere in the game! It’s quite an interesting puzzle game!

And some my gaming expirience:

The controls seemed a bit strange to me; out of habit, I pressed "S" to go down and something opened up to full screen. Then I couldn’t close it for a long time until I noticed the control hints in the top left corner. It seems like "E" and "B" are quite far apart, and it’s not very convenient to stretch my fingers to reach them. But that’s probably not a big deal since the game doesn’t require quick button presses :)

I also kept pressing "2" to open the sheet and didn’t understand why it wouldn’t open. Only later did I realize it was "Z" and not "2";  lol: D this is probably more of an issue with the font.

Yep, all of your points are valid (and tbh quite repeated, I fixed them a long time ago lol), but i damn thought that "b" was the norm for going back, until i discovered most people use backspace- aaaand i TOTTALALLLLLY forgot about wasd, like TOTALLY, i did even put it in mind.

I really liked the approach of the puzzle design, needing to pay attention to the game story, as well as adding in the cypher which requires some extra research to crack the code. Music / Vibe was great as well.

Personally, I would remove that jump scare in the beginning. As a horror fanatic, it felt cheap and unwarranted, no build up etc.. It just felt it was shoehorned in for just "the lols"

And as a bug report; One thing you should look into; The code entries in the first part do not lock themselves when the puzzle is completed, resulting in actually a multi-pick up. Basically just add a conditional branch to check if Item X has been picked up and if its true, it does nothing.

All in all well done mate!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for noticing that- but I actually already fixed it! I have a WEIRD habit of fixing after the deadline haha- but I'm glad you enjoyed the game at least! There's actually lore in the game too, i plan to make a lil game to complement that.

There are things you may have not noticed.

Curious puzzles! The introdcuction (with voices and all) was pretty interesting! If you want you can play my game: https://itch.io/jam/-pixel-game-jam-2024/rate/2718966

I really like to need to get a piece of paper to solve one of the cypher puzzle. Some of the mechanics were a bit cluncky (just beacuse some of the inputs overlapped), so I'm sure that cleaning that up a bit will  improve the overall experience. i liked the narrative. Music and Audio in the intro were very immersive. (And also I like that you need to pay attention to the story and voice over).

Pretty interesting, I like the art style and the music, they are very good. I am just sad that I couldn't break the code, maybe I am not smart enough for this game :)))) Nice work!

Developer

Need a hint? It's an a1z26 cipher :))

Developer

Glad you liked the artstyle! I kinda was wondering if people were going to like it but i am glad it went well! by the way, cute profile picture you have there

Thanks

Great atmosphere! I love seeing horror games and horror-themed games involving the ocean. Also love the usage of SAM, such a creepy yet so interesting voice synth.

Developer(+1)

I appreciate you saying it has good atmosphere, but what about the actual game? I know the codes and stuff was quite to decipher but well...

Submitted

It is kinda obscure to solve and it's the kind of puzzle you don't see much in most games as it requires some work on the player's end. It would be quite hard if the player doesn't have prior knowledge of the cipher and if they don't search up what it means.

Developer(+1)

I kind of intended that, I took a lot of inspiration from "game theory", as I wanted people to research a bit more, but fair point! Thanks :)

Damn creepy as hell, great work!

Don't play this game at night. And dont look behind you. I won't spoil it for you, just play it and see. ;D

omg I loved the vibe of this, jumping from glitchy tv text based with those voices to an rpg maker like experience was a pleasant surprise, even after the jump scare there

btw i was wondering how did you do the voices with that scary effect, i loved it so much

Developer (1 edit)

oh thats the sam mouth voice, here it is: SAM: Software Automatic Mouth (discordier.github.io)

Glad you liked it!

Submitted

oh thanks a lot for that have been looking for that

Developer

Glad you liked the RPG maker vibe!, the sprites are quite simple but i though it could get the work done.

Nice mood and vibe.

I got stuck with some UI bugs shortly after the game started. But what I saw was pretty sweet.

D

Developer (1 edit)

the bugs can be avoided by just pressing b :) weird though, these ui bugs didn't happen for me at all. I know there are a couple, but well.

Submitted

okk

beginning: nice text fx and voicefx

too long though

(didnt watched further)

Developer

i mean... i mean ofc it's a lore-puzzle game?

Interesting idea and I like the art style you went with. I kept running into bugs that prevented me from continuing so I wasn't able to get through all of it, but you definitely nailed a classic horror game vibe. For the bugs, the biggest one I ran into was in the first room it let me walk off to the right but then I was never able to return to the screen. I went off the screen in the same direction I went back so I couldn't have gotten stuck on something, but no matter how long I held left the character didn't come back. Otherwise, the aesthetic is solid and a sinking ship scenario fits the theme well.

Developer(+1)

Yeah, that was my fault. There are a couple of ui bugs, I just didn't have any time to fix it! Thank you for your review anyway, appreciate it. A way I'd play to finish is just to focus on the furniture only, nothing else. Thanks again!

Submitted (1 edit)

cool game, the vibe is great, the music is also good, the art is pretty good in exception to the fridge, great game!!

Developer

Hey appreciated! The guys were great and supportive and so glad with how it turned out.

I like the vibe, it reminds me of some of the classic horror RPGs like Ao Oni!

Developer

Thanks!
