1) There is no save.

2) The mechanics of melting are not clear. At first, I tried to transfer copper through the inventory, but it cooled down. Then I found the furnace button in the crucible, and it turned out that copper at 50 degrees can be poured :)

3) The mechanics of "choose an item in the inventory to use it on an object" are not clear due to the ability to mine ores without choosing a pickaxe.

4) The "Drag and Drop" mechanic periodically causes the movable object to hover in the air. After that, the item hangs there forever, and the game refuses to close, just hanging in the process.

To summarize. Interesting. But it's damp. It's very damp, completely unplayable :)

Thank you so much for playing my damp little game!! I will get right to work on making it playable!

So the no save thing really keeps me from trying again. twice now have i accidentally clicked the close button and lost progress.
Also the game seems breakable very easy. i didnt identify the saw bench before the monster attack and now it seems i cant, though it gives me handyman xp to keep trying to id it. and the millit or saw or what ever you get from the chickadee refuses to load into a crafteable thing. i click it with molten copper and i cant craft it, that happend twice.

Also in my last try about 10kg of copper got stuck at a temperature of like 70 ish? not sure how, it was recovered from a failed attempt into my inventory instead of the smelt. then when i added coal it would heat it like 70 something was 0

Developer

Extremely concerning news. Thanks so much!
I can probably figure out the bugs that caused that. Lol. I'll get right on it!

I think I was queueing too much stuff as at a certain point the dice roller wouldn't close and I could no longer receive any materials. Perhaps you could put in a max time for the window to be up and if the current roll hasn't completed it's closed out as if it had. The dice had finished rolling, the total had been summed and applied but because the panel never went away nothing continued to work.

Developer(+1)

Fascinating! I'll see if I can replicate that. That's a great idea for a potential fix. Thanks for your help!

I absolutely love the concept this game is going with, with the various exploration and crafting mechanics. Definitely excited for when this game gets a save, but until then, the "requires re-opening game" bugs are "game-breaking" bugs. Eagerly await seeing how it grows. Edit: Additionally, absolutely love the human voicework. That's a lot of love going into the game.

Developer(+1)

Been working on the save system all day, and it's mostly done! I think I'll wait until I fix a few of the other game breaking bugs and mayve sneak a little more content in there, but I'd expect an update within the week!

I am really, truly happy to hear the idea touched someone else too. I look forwards to growing this idea gracefully!

Seems you've already got bug reports for everything I've already noticed, though I would add the same bug with the table saw seems to appear with the logging camp if you explore it after returning to the smithy.

I'm really loving what I'm seeing now though.  The gathering and crafting combined with skill levels makes an engaging gameplay loop beyond the typical Cookie Clicker/adVenture capatilist idle game. I think where the game is really shining though is the writing and voice acting. Your writing is very evocative but also punchy, instead of dragging on like some narrative idle games (ngu idle/ idling to rule the gods) it just leaves me wanting to reach the next entry more. Your choice in voice actor definitely doesn't hurt though. Very soothing voice and a lot more confidence than I expect from these early projects. Was honestly expecting Liz to have a voice actress too I almost forgot this was such an early build of an independently built game because of the quality voice acting.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for this extremely sweet comment. It really gives me the hope that this project has legs, and gives me all the motivation I need to keep at it.

I actually am working on finding a voice actress for Liz, so it seems you understand me very well! That's a bit lower on my priority list than something like making the game work normally, but I hope you get a chance to see where I go with it. [:

With a little fussing I got the game working under wine (I see you're using Unity, so a Linux native version would be appreciated although I understand that can be a pain).

As noted by others, there are a few places where I found the UI unintuitive:

  • In the crucible I expected to click an ore to select it rather than drag, and as the little ingot icon next to each mold labeled something like "valid ores" (sorry, I exited before writing this) is gray it seemed like maybe my initial molds could only do undiscovered iron and not copper. Thanks to reading a comment above I eventually tried dragging and got it to work, but there are a few places like this where it would help if the UI were smoothed out a bit.
  • After exploring the Lake I was told to hold Shift to Identify something. I have never been able to get this to work. I have tried both Left and Right shift while hovering and clicking on locations, tools, and materials and haven't seen any effect. I'm not sure if this is me misunderstanding the instructions or a consequence of how you're reading keyboard input interacting oddly with wine
  • Sometimes (I think only if I queued both mining and casting operations), when the dice were rolled for casting it would give me mining results. As in "Casting copper nails, rolled 12, Deeper in the Cave you received crushed stone"
  • When I tried to recover materials from the damaged forge to repair it, I didn't receive anything

It was fun to play around with despite the bugs and confusion; I look forward to seeing how the game develops.

Developer

Thank you so much for checking it out, and for the helpful feedback!  Hoping to put the next build out tomorrow with native Linux and WebGL options. I'm also certainly working on a new UX flow for the casting selection issue.

Also, I'm so sorry for the confusion - Identify doesn't do anything yet. So you're not crazy on that front. XD It will be a subsystem related to the tooltip. I'll fix the text to avoid confusion until it's implemented.

Great start and I had a lot of fun!  The only issues I've discovered so far are the fact that there's no save feature, which I assume you'll add eventually, and that once I met Liz, the copper in my repaired furnace became unusable.  What I mean by this is the top "Lump of Copper" I had in there before repairing the furnace is greyed out and can't be selected at the casting station.

Developer

Wooohoooo!

Save/load is coming in the next build, along with some other general fixes. Thank you so much for the feedback!

I quite like this game overall, as far as I managed to play, a good isekai venture into crafting and skill grinding.

Most notably, in upating to 1.2 to check if these problems were fixed, I can't figure out how to equip the pickaxe to the cave any more. Dragging it around to different spots or having it selected in the inventory both don't seem to do anything. 1.2 also seems to have added a silly bug where the loot tables in the cave menu are duplicated for every time you've opened the cave menu.

It took me a long time to figure out that I had to drag and drop items from the furnace menu to the crucible menu to craft with them, as discussed earlier, but my problem is that in that time my mining skill had levelled to the point where getting stone from the mines only happened on a dice roll of 0, so the later act of repairing the furnace to get access to all the stone that was in the furnace (due to using the add all materials button) would have taken unreasonably long, as would the 200 stone for repairing the floor (of which I believe I got only about 100 before my mining skill was too high to get much more).

Developer

I'm delighted to hear you're in for the concept! Hopefully I can expand on it in a really nice way.
Yeah, sorry, it looks like the new update is pretty broken. I'm working on getting it nice and clean, thanks for your patience!

Couldn't figure out how to mine. Found the pickaxe in the camp, but unclear how to use it in any meaningful way.

(1 edit) (+1)

the pickaxe broke in the update today

Im not sure what I'm supposed to do after getting the pickaxe. Clicking the mine tells me I need more strength and need a pickaxe, I can't use anything in the forge, and I can't clear the brush. My first idea was to go to the mine to level up my strength, but my pickaxe doesn't seem to count plus im too weak

(1 edit)

you dont need strength to mine you only need strength to move the crucible at the beginning

It says I don't have enough strength to mine when I click the mine or drag the pickaxe over. The messages not enough strength and need a pickaxe alternate when I click.

Developer

VERY fascinating bug. I'll be looking out for this as well as trying to address the pickaxe bug today. Thanks for your patience!

(1 edit)

but the game also kinda broke with this update cant mine even with pickaxe, also im not sure about the strength thing it doesnt say that for me you might have to wipe your save in options
