I'm making a Text-Based Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Horror game that contains 3D first person gameplay segments(and 2D gameplay segments), hence the need to label it as 'experimental horror' lest I run out of breath each time I attempt to talk about the game.

Vault was made in 2 weeks for the Acerola0 game jam, but now I'm working on a full version. I hope to have a demo ready for Steam Next Fest in October.

I'm actually working on some illustrations! I'm taking pictures in-engine and colorizing them.

Truly the Dark Souls of... Gnorm Games.

Presentation is pretty much perfect in my opinion. Great art, nice sound design, and it's very obvious what you're supposed to do.

I love the story telling through the environment!

As people have said, the game is hard, but I don't think this is bad. Some games are just hard, and that's the way they're meant to be.

It really makes you FEEL like a monster trying to learn about the mysterious Gnorms. Great job :)

April Fools??!?

Thank you! :)

This game is pretty good all around.

Visually, it's great. Really nice stylization(if that's a word lol.)

The sound design is super nice! The music, environment sounds, and sfx are all well done.

The gameplay mechanic was pretty fun. At first, I was passing it off as luck but it's actually really interesting!

Great work overall. Definitely underplayed.

Really neat concept. Nice visuals as well. Think the controls could've been smoother though...

Cool to see a more strategy-focused game in a jam setting!

I think the art and sound design were both great, however, it was challenging to pick up. A more in depth tutorial would've helped a lot.

thank you! :)

Comment what you'd like to see in Vault 1.1! This could be:

  • Bugs that should be fixed
  • Features that could be added
  • Environments that could be explored
  • Characters you could encounter
  • New gameplay modes
  • ...Or anything else you think of!

Thanks! I was watching a streamer play it, and apparently you can also drag the scene files onto the .exe file!

thank you! :)

First off, I clicked on this game solely because of the title and I was not disappointed.

The game is super easily understood.

Visually, it's beautiful. Nice colors, super cohesive stylistically, and amazing visual effects throughout.

The sound was also on point, with great sound effects, and literally goated music.

I think it has the core systems to be a really cool deckbuilder, but there were some issues.

  • I don't think upgrading cards worked...
  • I don't think adding cards worked...
  • I can't tell it deleting cards worked.
  • The gameplay feels too simplistic(especially because I effectively played the starting deck the whole way.)
  •  It feels both very luck-based and pretty easy.

For difficulty context, I enjoy games like Slay the Spire, and Inscryption(I beat Kaycee's mod with all of the skulls enabled lol.) These both have luck elements but also rely heavily on player skill. What I'm trying to say is that I like difficult games, but that doesn't mean the game feeling easy for me is necessarily bad. Ultimately, you get to decide what difficulty level you want the game to have.

But yeah, let me know when the steam version drops because I would definitely pick this up if it expands.

Thanks for enduring my ted talk. Great game.

This is a great concept.

I think if you could make the game loop seamlessly each time you get to the checkpoint, that would add a lot.

The character controller was a little frustrating at times which detracted from the experience a little bit, and having audio would've done a lot for the game too. Visually, it was simplistic but pretty clean.

I'd love to see how this game evolves if you keep working on it!

This game is very sweet.

Best sound design I've seen so far. The music fits SO WELL with the mood, and the tracks are all super good just as individual pieces. Also, the music themes in the dialogue are great, but I think it would've felt cleaner if you used more crossfading when transitioning between songs.

The story is simple, but still heartfelt from the little we get to see, however, the text typing animation felt a little slow to me, paired with the relatively big text blocks.

Each piece of the art by itself looks great, however, the blending of the cute hand-drawn characters and the pixel art felt off, also there were a handful of layering issues(ie: I was walking along the top of the map and the player's head is getting rendered behind a tree that should be behind me.)

It was a cool game overall, I'm excited to see chapter II! :)

This is really cool! It reminded me a lot of Dredge, but also had the top-down shooter part, giving it a more original flair.

The controls were smooth, and the visual effects were nice. The sound design was solid throughout.

I think the lowlight of this game is the inconsistency of the sprites used at different parts of the game. It felt like there were a handful of styles being mixed. (As somebody with no art skills, I do not take lightly that it is quite difficult to make a game look good.)

Overall though, this has been one of my favorite games of the jam. Nice work :)

It's a cool concept for sure. I think that with some tweaks to the visuals, and some music, sfx, and ocean sounds, you could really elevate the spooky vibe.

thanks for the feedback!

thank you! :)

Note: I have never played Faith, but I am familiar with it.

I liked this game. I love creepy stuff, and the presentation was pretty good throughout. SAM voice was great, and the music was nice too. I also really liked how you had the titlecard sequence. The movement could've been smoother, but it felt kind of stylistically clunky. UI scaling I think is the game's greatest weakness.

The story was interesting enough. I thought I predicted the whole plot after the first scene, but you surprised me heheh.

Overall, I'd say it was pretty good.

The boss fight in this game was very strong! Very challenging and dynamic.

I think some of the art looked really good, while other parts looked less polished, which felt a little odd.

The music could've been more intense to fit the feel of the game.

Overall, pretty strong. Keep it up!

Visually, the game is amazing. Everything comes together super nicely, I think that audio would've really helped.

I think the pacing is a little off. The game is challenging(not too challenging though.) The concept is interesting enough, but the amount of time you have to wait between getting to try again feels too long.

I think that the first time you descend, the length is great. It should be slow, and build suspense. It is only when you are trying to go back down when you already know what's going to come that it feels annoying.

Still, it was a nice game! I actually made something kind of similar for a game jam last summer.

Here's mine: https://itch.io/jam/acerola-jam-0/rate/2564069

Pretty cool game. I liked the visuals, and the upgrade system. Sound design was also fairly solid.

Very nice game. Great concept, and well executed.

Visually, it's not complex, but it is cohesive. The game is quickly understood. I would've liked to see some quality of life improvements such as:

  • Ability to speed up bot playthroughs
  • Ability to collect placed items(in the editing segments)
  • More music, or a longer background track*

There was a bug in the settings menu where it starts another instance of the music playing. This did not impact me because I didn't visit the settings til after I had beat all the levels.

This is a super nice game! Great job :)

*If you'd like me to do a small soundtrack for the game, I'd love to do that. My discord is 'KevEatsCheese' if you want to contact me there.

I think for me, the fact that it is a Hollow Knight clone detracts from the experience.

The game itself isn't bad. The controls all feel pretty good, the music is nice(although it doesn't always fit the mood,) and the art is cool.

However, by comparing the game openly to Hollow Knight, you set yourself up to be the 'budget' version of something that already exists(and you picked one of the best games out there.)

At the same time, a large part of the draw of this game is that it's a Hollow Knight fan-game.

Still, despite the comparisons, it is a nice game.

Pretty cool game! I liked the music and the switch mechanic. I thought the platforming felt a little out of touch with the rest of the game. The switch mechanic felt very nice, and it contrasted with the much less polished platforming, which felt frustrating at times. Overall, pretty strong puzzle game.

idk if you would consider mine a visual novel, but it is largely a text based game: https://keveatscheese.itch.io/vault

Cool. Good to know!

Hey! Thanks for the kind words :)

What kind of SFX do you think I should put after the dialogue? (I'm actively working on improving the game.)

Also, for the clues, I get that those are answers. This was partially intentional since I wanted to make sure nobody got stuck permanently. That's why I have the note that tells you to try to solve each puzzle without the clues.

Thanks again for your feedback. Glad you liked the game :)

I must've missed it lol, my mistake

This game is great on nearly every level. I think the only thing I would add would be look sensitivity. Mine feels super low.

Thank you! I'm so glad you liked the game :)

Thanks very much for your feedback! Where specifically do you think the game should stop closing as much?

Heya! Thanks a lot for your feedback. What do you think I could make easier to understand without spoiling too much? Did you notice the clue files?

Me and Void Core have put together a bundle of games to promote Void Core 0.2!

Bundle Linkhttps://itch.io/b/2354/void-core-02-release-promotion

Void Core is a cozy sandbox game where you play minigames to unlock cool decorations with which you will fill the void. 0.2 Adds many features, one of which is a system that allows you to visit other player's voids!

There are also a bunch of my own games in this bundle:

VAULT

SkeletonsMolegan's Quest

Great game! Art, gameplay, juice, and sound effects, are all really awesome. I see only two weak points.

1.  The soundtrack is somewhat disconnected from the aesthetic.

2. There is a lot of gameplay to unpack, and I think the game could be slower and more intentional about teaching each piece(this point could easily be a result of my own stupidity though lol)

Pretty cool game! I think a tutorial would help the intro go by a lot faster. I didn't know how to open any doors so it took me quite a while to get to the platforming. The platforming was pretty nice though. It was challenging but whatever respawn system you have in place prevents it from being frustrating. However, I did manage to get into a position where I was bouncing up and down, dead. The respawn was not working for some reason, and I was in a dead lock. I think audio would've added a lot, but the art style was good. Overall, it was a nice game.
