thats a great asset. And thanks for making it free!

that looks awesome. Great work man!

Thanks for the feedback!

I internationally made it a little difficult so a person would have to persistently train their game sense and develop a muscle memory as to what keys serve what purpose; although, this being a small game, I doubt anyone would go so far as to practise it.

I'm glad you liked the music and stuff. I tried my best to bring a feeling to the game which is authentic to the golden age of piracy and its great to see that worked.

Cheers!

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I'm not thinking of making it easier but maybe I'll try to tweak it a little or add variable difficulties or something. But until then, I guess you just gotta practice😉

It is brilliant for the short time span you had to make it in. The retro styling and everything is fantastic and very eye catching.

Only problem I have with it is that everything seems a little too complicated. I didn't completely get the sector map thing (maybe that's just me) and the weapon choices and everything seems a little sophisticated. But that could be just the thing some people fancy.

All-in-all, its unbelievable how you made such a beauty within a week.

Congrats!

I see. If it were not made in haste, I would've tried to add a practice mode for testing out the controls (with infinite lives or something), but since we had limited time, I guess we all had to work-around plenty of stuff.

Thanks so much for trying it out and leaving a review!

Totally agree on the music, its an amazing non-copyright track I found online. Its my dream to make a game like Dead Cells by Motion Twin, so by intent I make my games a little too hard. And because I, myself, being the developer-having played it for numerous hours, start finding it easy, I tend to go a little overboard with the difficulty for a game not many people would replay.

Thanks a ton for trying it out though!

Its definitely a unique gameplay experience. Although I don't fancy this kind of turn based movement a lot, the music and other contributing elements were good enough to keep me from quitting for a while longer.

The UI in my opinion could be improved on a little (I found it a little sophisticated).

Overall, everything was quite impressive considering the small week you had to make this game.

Cheers!

Its an over-all fantastic game with the line-of-sight game mechanic keeping a player on toes anticipating whether or not there's an enemy behind the next wall or if that key is bait for a hoard of monsters!

For critique, I'd say some music would've added to the thrill and additional SFX would've fixed some emptiness I felt in the gameplay.

If you wish, you can try out my game as well: Join Me In Dystopia, Pirate! by IndieMonkey (itch.io). I'll be grateful if you leave a review!

Cheers!

At first glance, it seems like just another generic top-down shooter; but the way you've executed a lot of the gameplay elements is fantastic.

Its challenging enough to keep a player engaged; but not fully immersed. I think the lack of music is something that took some potential fun away. The eerie sound effect made by the dark red monstor (the one with the horns and sharp teeth) could make for some terrific thriller music if implemented.

Aside from that, everything was amazing considering the small time frame we all got to make our games.

Cheers!

It's quite interesting! Getting really high up and then falling down really reminded me of good old 'Getting Over It'

Although its amazingly re-playable, in my opinion, it lacked juice. Some SFX would have gone a long way and the fact that I wasn't getting audible feedback was quite a put off.

Overall, it was quite fun and enjoyable!

Cheers!

Since I was just bug fixing and not adding new elements to my game, I didn't keep the OG file, rather just slapped on a patch (lol) cuz I agree, if people download the jam file instead of some up-to-date one, they're not gonna get as good an experience.

If you wanna check it out, here's the link to my game: Join Me In Dystopia, Pirate! by IndieMonkey (itch.io). I'd appreciate it tons if you give a rating as well.

Cheers!

I think keeping a legacy (jam-version) file is what's best if you want to keep pushing updates while keeping it fair since this is what the hosts had to say about it: "We request you maintain a 7DRL version of your game for reference.  People judging may elect to play either that one or  the latest.  Change notes can specify what was fixed / added so the judges can take that into account even if they play the latest version.

You can direct people to the latest & best version, however, as we'd want the normal players of your game to have the best experience as possible."

Me too. Since I couldn't save a lot of time for play-testing before the deadline, I have found minor bugs and things to improve in the game after the submission.

There was one major error which I fixed and re-uploaded, thankfully, before the deadline but there are still more things to change.

The hosts have responded to similar questions by saying that you can upload another file of your choice if you want to do so, but while keeping this previous file as it is on the website and labelling it as the one made for the game-jam specifically.

thanks for the review! Actually, I forgot to add a little instruction for the controls that is you can rotate around using the Left and Right Arrow keys (its only mentioned in the description) so you don't necessarily have to shoot in one direction. But if it is as intersting as you say, maybe it can be made into a game mechanic😉

Join me in Dystopia, Pirate! Join Me In Dystopia, Pirate! by IndieMonkey (itch.io) is my first ever take on a top down shooter, and a roguelike. I've never tried this kind of random generation before so I had to work around a few errors with slipshod game mechanics, yet still, I'm proud of the result.

I've filled it with tons game-juice including VFX and SFX to make it a tad bit interesting for the player.

Since it was made in a hurry. there were bugs upon release (yesterday) which I fixed today in a patch. If you still stumble upon some kind of error, mind the fact that I'm a solo dev managing school life and indie dev simultaneously.

Cheers!

Man I didn't know I was so slow at typing XD Its a nice and unique game mechanic but in my opinion, it lacks juice (or game feel). Some more VFX  to depict what the player has experienced would be nice. Great effort though!

Love it! Nice to see Rum heals your wounds XD If anything, I'd like for the map to be little more zoomed in. Rest, everything is amazing!

The Stun Mechanic comes a little confusing  to me; rest, I love the art direction and UI design. Keep it up!

Its interesting but I'd suggest adding some sort of twist to the game so as to make it different form the original pack man. Great effort though!

If you'd be so kind as to check out my submission at: https://indiemonkey.itch.io/join-me-in-dystopia-pirate, that would be great.

It works on a very simple set of rules, yet still it's quite interesting and re-playble. Great work!

I played it, and I can honestly say its amazing. The anticipation of whether or not I can make it to the top, and the simple yet thought requiring game mechanics are a work of art.

Cheers!

A top-down shooter roguelike game themed after pirates and their fabled haven - Libertalia. Shoot, plunder and loot as you go along the randomly generated world killing and wreaking havoc.

In a pirates's world, life is all about money (or booty as they call it). If you lose your money, you lose your life, so take what you can, give nothing back!

Started from the Womb and now we're here

Survive in the maze trying to get to the exit door avoiding any and all randomly placed booby traps. While on the run look out for the maze guards trying to prevent your escape!

Game Modes include:-

• Single Player - Escape from AI enemies that run after you any chance they get. Thankfully for you they get confused around walls so try to use the maze to your advantage. DONT LET THEM TOUCH YOU!

• PVP(Local Multiplayer) - Play against your friends on the same device. One trying to escape and the other hunting the former down! Use your surrounding objects to your advantage by electrocuting the other or trapping them in glue but beware of the various randomly spread traps as well.

Ya, being a beginner myself, I can say that submitting your game to a gamejam can definitely increase the downloads.

Sadly, I have my exams soon so I can't take part in.

Good luck to you!
