So after playing only a few hours with my buddy, we really enjoyed the data block assembly. It quickly made sense and became an enjoyable puzzle. It was a compelling system and something we want to delve deeper into.

The unlocks made the EXMs a lot less daunting as well.

I do recognize it is somewhat complicated however. Maybe a tutorial that explains exactly how to make the shapes match up properly would go a long way to make the system clearer.

Keep up the great work. This concept is certainly unique and incredibly interesting.

I look forward to testing the unlocking system.

Awesome I'm glad you like it! Yeah we are going to work on finishing this idea and I'll be starting with cleaning up the mechanics so those strategies you mentioned come through clearer. Thank you so much for the feedback :)

thank you! I was hoping to make it just a simple fun experience for now (I'll nail down the strategy once I clean up my code)

My artist greatly appreciated your comments btw and we are definitely planning on finishing the animation on this character as well as 1-3 more. :)

thank you so much! Yeah the current idea is to create 4 characters who have slight variations on the punch, block, and break system. Like a character with a spiked shield and someone who restores health on a successful shield break.

You're absolutely right too. It is tough to read the opponentes move and I'll certainly keep it in mind. My artist appreciates the nice words as well. :)

thank you so much! I definitely wanted to convey a simple and enjoyable idea. I'll pass the character design comment along to my artist. :)

ahaha yeah thank you!

Button mashing was definitely unintentional. My spaghetti code somehow allowed you to use the shield break move while mashing which certainly breaks the balance a lot. I'm hoping to rewrite it over the next few weeks though to make it a little more fair and interesting.

yo thank you! It's pretty much just a prototype but I greatly appreciate that!

Very nice! The aesthetic brings fond memories of final fantasy adventure and the gameplay has a great sense of exploration and discovery. My one critique is the control scheme can be difficult at times and I find it tricky to throw and pick items up properly on occasion.

Overall great work!

Mine ended up becoming more of a prototype than a full game unto itself but I think the idea has some legs and I'm proud of it as my first ever game jam submission. I'm looking through everyone's games here in this thread too and Ill try to leave comments as I can.

I very likely will and I look forward to having another go once the voting period ends. Thanks for the great game, its inspired me to look into building a tactics system myself. :)

Good luck in the jam btw!

Very solid! I ended up working with the fighting genre as well and I love this take on it! It certainly has the depth to keep things interesting

Great job!

Wow. This is actually incredibly fun. The controls are smooth and the gameplay is great. I found myself spending way longer in this game than i was anticipating ahaha. How many stages did you end up making? I got up to stage 9 myself. I really liked when stage 7 mixed the game up even more right as I got the jist!

Overall very good work and fun game!

Overall very good work and fun game!

Surprisingly fun, impressively simple, and overall well polished. It actually reminds me of the game "reigns" from Nerial with its humor and simple strategy. I'm impressed and I would actually love to see this develop further and gain some added depth and strategy!

Great work!

Nicely polished and good design. I wouldve liked to see the power meter closer to my character however as i found it tricky to dart my eyes back and forth.

Great job!

controls and execution were somewhat wonky however the idea is a great one. I would lvoe to see this idea after a little bit of polish and enhancement!

Great job!

Incredibly fun game I had an absolute blast! The combat felt great and the new abilities really made it feel like i had a strong progression. It had a great "endless" feel to it.

great job!

very well made. I understand the comments about the controls but i think it would help if the movement of the deer was tile based as well.  otherwise great job!

Very clean game! I had a blast and it certainly was rewarding to memorize the map and backtrack using different abilities. My one suggestion would be to show which doors open when you hit a button as i found myself struggling t times to figure out where to check out next.

Big fan! I like how easy it is to play and the one button idea is a great one (I actually used the only spacebar thing too ahaha).  The shields spin direction swapping each time i pressed the button threw me off a little. However it would have felt restrictive if the shield only moved in one direction so its likely the better of two evils.

Great game!

Very solid. I actually had a decent amount of fun exploring to find different weapons but there definitely is a lack of information. I'd love to know when im dealing damage and more clear sprites for the weapons would help me differentiate what is what. Overall great job though!

very nice! I love how you were able to really break it down to pokers most simplistic aspects.

I love the idea of the game. It sounds like you really had something sweet going on. Sorry to hear about the  build breaking though, thats really the worst. Ill be adding it to my collections and hopefully you can fix up the build issues. I'd love to give it a try!

Aw don't just throw it away though! Put it up and label it as a prototype!  :)

incredible stuff! The polish brought me in and the Mantra mechanic is really interesting and exciting.
