Lags like heck on my computer! (Granted, all its components are about nine years old, so.)

And gotta say: not a fan of the lens dirt, but that's probably just me.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I didn't do any optimization so that could be the reason too. I might also add an option to disable lens dirt. I'm gonna expand this game. If you are interested you can follow me on itch.io page.. Thanks for taking your time!

You're welcome. Will follow.

And it just occurred to me: you probably coded the movement and lookaround code yourself, didn't you....

Developer (1 edit)

Yes but it is based on youtube tutorial with some changes. It uses Character Controller instead of Rigidbody. It's much better to make your own controller instead of using the ones in Unity Standard Assets as those are very laggy.

Ah, makes sense.

Beautiful game, impressive work! I'm stuck in a room full of books, I can't find the key :/

Developer

The last puzzle is hard to do yourself. There is one book that acts as a lever but it is hard to find because I ran out of time and didn't add any hints which one it is. It will be fixed as I'm expending this game further. If you want to see more of it then be sure to follow me on itch.io page. Thank you for playing!

At the last puzzle it's not hard it's just frustrating because you are randomly looking for something. If you gave the key for "free" the player will know that they need to find the keyhole. And for moving the book maybe all books are align except for one, the player will find it odd and try to play with it. I like the style, keep up the good work! I also did a puzzle game for the jam. Here if you want to try: https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/463579

Totaly agree. The last puzzle needs some hints. I will be expanding this game. If you are interested in it then you can follow me on itch.io page. Thanks for taking your time!

I really liked the feel of this game, the visuals, presentation everything was ++. The only gripe, which I think was the case for some of the other comments here, is the final puzzle. I had to search here for hints, and even with those it took me a good while to find the solutions. I recorded my play session, so hopefully I can upload that soon since I talk more about it there, but I think with a few more limitations in the final room, for example, if there was say a green carpet or stone near the door opened by the green book, and then only one green book in the library to help the player make the connection, that would be all it takes to make that last level flow that much better.

Still, thats a small thing workable by play testing, apart from that great game feel and for 48 hours GREAT WORK on the visuals and layout.

If you have time, would love to hear what you think of my game; https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/461074

I know the last puzzle is too hard. Unfortunately I couldn't add any hints because I ran out of time. I'm going to expand this game, so that will be fixed for sure. If you would be interested in it you can follow me on itch.io page. Thanks for feedback! I'm looking forward to see the video. I will get ton of useful information from it. It will really help me improve the game. Thanks for taking your time!
