Total love, not so much and not only for the idea of the mechanics themselves, but of the relationship you chose to use with the text. It took me a moment to realize what was going on, and when I realized I was heart-eyed. Eyes that I then sometimes had to hold still with my fingers to keep from messing up. the eeriness of seeing the flicker of change in response to your blinking is something else. what is normally an instinctual microreaction becomes this vulnerability, this sign of weakness that quickly supersedes clicking around with a mouse. not only that, but the light on my laptop indicating my webcam is enabled just beams with the knowledge of surveillance. lots going on here. fantastic work!

Wow the mechanic was so original! So fun to see the environment change by "blinking".
Really a neat game!
(would it be possible to toggle the animation in the background though?)

This is really cool. The atmosphere, vibes, and audio are all on point. The writing is concise, clean, and purposeful, and the central mechanic with the blinking is very excellent.

My only complaint was that I got owned by the Gorgon even though I had my eyes closed, I think it read me wrong! But that's to be expected sometimes I guess!

Really great interpretation of the theme and one of my favorite games in the jam!

Oh my! What an atmosphere. I knew from Discord that you were working on a blinking mechanic, but I never imagined how effortlessly it would complement the visuals, the soundscape, the narrative. This really took me somewhere else. It felt like magic. Incredible!

A very unique gameplay experience! loved how the blinking played into the puzzles, very well designed. And the horror aspects using the blinking were pretty well made too! Very nice.

I enjoyed this so much. Would definitely recommend the use of webcam when playing. There wasn't too much text or too many options for the locations to be confusing. Each level was unique, playing with the blinking mechanic in really fun ways. Each level also wasn't too short or too long; there was enough time to appreciate it. The problem solving was really fun.  I really liked out-staring the ferryman. The dialogue was really... efficient? I mean in a good way - simple and to the point but without feeling rushed; I think you really nailed it within the scope of the game. The backround movement wasn't distracting and neither was audio. I appreciated the epilepsy warning, and the game's page is so nice and informative (I'm so going to put more work into my own ones, need to lift my game!). I was reminded a little of the movie Rec (or Rec 2) which played with the camera's infrared nightvision... I finished a few playthroughs of your game and I honestly just want moar. This game was really neat and I look forward to seeing what you come up with next.

I loved playing Before Your Eyes, and the fact that you replicated that mechanic over a weekend is ridiculously impressive. I’d love to see how you did this. Would you be able to post a link to your GitHub repo? 

Definitely my favourite play through. It felt polished with a mechanic that fits the story.  Bravo.

Thanks for playing! We'll get around to posting the repo eventually (gotta double-check a possible licensing issue on some of the audio assets), but the short answer is we used Google MediaPipe, which provides a facial landmark recognition model that runs locally in the browser.   And then just communicated blink events to Godot via the Godot-JS API.  And in ink, I just made choices with the text "BLINK/UNBLINK" which get selected automatically when you close/open your eyes.

Omg, that's crazy. I don't have a webcamera either, so used the space bar - which I tried to press every time I blinked. But I clearly don't blink very much, and once I figured out the mechanics I mainly did intentional blinking, so to speak. :D But this is pretty insane to have been made for a jam game, and for the theme. Also really enjoyed the presentation and the story - was there anything in particular associated with answering the questions between segments?

Wow, this was insanely unique and creative!

The music, atmosphere, and visuals were all fantastic. Unfortunately, I’m playing this at night in bed, so I had to use the spacebar. I was able to get all the way to the end, but I can’t get past the Gorgon. Is it possible to use just the keyboard? I press and hold the spacebar the second he comes, but it says I still see him. I might have to give it a go in the daytime.

In any case, this is really an awesome game you made. Super cool!

Regarding the gorgon, keep in mind that in theory your eyes are supposed to be closed when that text appears on the screen.  If you don't open your eyes early then you're never supposed to see it.  As long as you keep holding the spacebar down you should be good.

I do encourage you to give it a go some time when you can actually use the blink detection, for the true intended experience (since, like, half the levels are only challenging if you have to blink involuntarily occasionally).  There's still a bit of story content you haven't seen yet, too!  (though not as much as I would like, kinda ran out of time and had to cut narrative corners).

I wasn't able to get the blinking to work but overall this was very fun, creative, and inventive! I really loved the different ways you played with how the blinking interacted with the game. This was very cool!!
