Hey, I saw you wanted feedback on your game page, and I see other people already gave some nice feedback! Here are some things I think would improve a lot your game, I hope you don't mind:
- The visual style is solid and the animations are good, but maybe a bit too messy. It might be just my taste. Also, maybe adding a boiling line effect here and there would help changes things up a bit;
- Sometimes the not solid places are not obvious: for instance, the car can't be climbed on , but it has the same shading as the boxes. I think making it a bit lighter would be a nice touch;
- And, of course, adding sound and music!
Again, I hope you don't mind these points. This could become a really nice bigger game, something like Super Contra but with its own style.
Also, I agree with you. When we were younger we managed to have lots of fun with the simplest of things... for me, it was bottle caps for some reason hahaha
The art is the highlight of this game, I really adore it. The fighting needs more polishing to be more fun. I enjoyed to jump on the heads of enemies and ride them tho xD making the stand-able obstacles different color is a good idea that would really help the gameplay.
Also I managed run over the edge of the world and got lost somewhere in the netherworld.
Damn, the way characters move and shoot (especially while jumping) really reminds me of good ol' Contra games!
Love the artstyle too!
(I assume the game ends when you fall into infinite void hole at the end?)
Reminds me of some newgrounds flash games (RIP Flash), the styling is a lot of fun.
Love the hand made drawings, very on point.
In tradition of Green Beret!
I really liked the game, i loved the aesthetics but at one point i ran out of scenery. Still a great job!
Just a tip: try to use different colors for the background and the platforms. i.e., if we can climb it, let it be blue but if it’s just a background, like a warehouse, make it gray (like done by pencil).
Anyway, great entry
I absolutely adore the doodle graphics! With that textured, lined paper background, oh god it feels like real doodles on paper and it's magical.
In the web version it seems to crop around the edges. For example, I can't see the player's legs or the ground.
Maybe Project Settings/Display/Window/Stretch/Aspect ->keep, or something else there?
Thank you for the feedback! I really am glad you liked the authentic, appreciated.
The background was a quality texture I've found on free sources, the doodles however are real doodles I'did on paper and photoedited them into sprites. I am yet to figure out the efficient way to streamline the graphics process as I really wish them to be fluid.
Thanks for the advice, the setting was already the way you noted, but I've played around with settings and also screen size on itch and maybe it good better... I can't test properly, as I only have retina mac to test and it seems to be finicky about screen pixels and stuff.
