Already 25 of you have decided to join the jam in less than 24h which is just incredible.

I'm so happy and excited to host this jam, and I am very eager to learn what y'all are considering building using the Firelights Creator Kit

So, what are your ideas so far ? What kind of game or setting do you have in mind for your game?

Just spitballing at the moment, but I like the concept of playing a tiny little robot exploring a long dead world of overgrown cities. The threats would be killbot type things. Your goal is to collect as many functioning devices that contain footage or journals of the humans who once lived here so that you can compile a museum/library of human memories.

Reminds me of certain episodes of LOVE+DEATH+ROBOT on Netflix, I love this!

Ah, never seen it! I was mashing together some Wall-E, Odyssey to the West, Horizon: Zero Dawn kinda vibes.

HostSubmitted (1 edit)

oh all those inspirations sound wonderful (love Wall-E and Horizon!)

If you are curious about the thing I talked about:

I’m experimenting with a Zelda-inspired dungeon crawler where instead of beacons, players seek out dungeon entrances on the world map. After entering one, the player breaks out a separate (likely customized) dungeon deck with its own tri-fold.

Of course, I’m already getting ambitious with additional ideas, but if that plays as intended I’ll be quite happy.

I love this, and yeah I do feel like the system could play very well with Zelda inspired games. Can't wait to learn more about this one.

Hey!

I've got two in mind, right off the bat. One working off Metroid Prime since...Metroidvania inspired gameplay. And another based off the anime Mushi Shi.

HostSubmitted(+1)

I think we most definitely need a Metroid Prime game that uses this engine!

This is going to be a lot of fun!

I'm thinking of drawing from a non metroidvania game. Specifically Frostpunk, you're a lone person/group (tbd) using the limited available resources to reignite the beacons and thaw out a great ice age that took over the land.

HostSubmitted

What are your inspirations on this one? Any particular media (book, tv, game)

As mentioned Frostpunk is my main source of inspiration at least thematically

I love Frostpunk (also made a game using another of RPs systems based on it) and this is a great idea for a game in this system.

I'm really excited for this Jam! I'm thinking of doing something a little... Safe? Going to do a twist on the Dark Souls 3 storyline of awakening Lords of Cinders to reignite the First Flame, but you're a Firekeeper and it's... slightly less "Chosen Undead beats up a lot of Guys" and more navigating that role of catalyst and diplomat almost.

We'll see! I'm giving myself two weeks to "play around and have fun" after LORDSWORN finishes as a mental reset!

Good luck with the rest of the campaign! Also, yeah I think merging this with a Souls vibe would create such an interesting combo...!

yes, yes, yes!

I'm excited to make something that's Guided by Firelights!

The idea of mine I like the most at the moment is that the player is an agent of an interstellar nation who has vital information to destroying an enemy superweapon. However, they get stuck in an ancient, massive space station that prevents FTL travel in the region, so they have to shut down all the dampeners to be able to escape and save their nation.   Sort of Star Wars meets Metroid, but with a bit of a Hyper-Light Drifter vibe.

This is sick, I'm already hooked by this! 😱

Submitted(+1)

one idea I have is Fern Gully but the fairies are mushrooms...because I read a study about how some mycelium and certain plants clear pollution and it would be cool to see that in fantasy form...

another idea I have is a bit darker and deals with someone wanting to get proof (photo or video) of different cryptids in Appalachia but running into Men in Black (btw they aren't as fun as the MiB movies if you read the original stories), aliens abducting people, hunters looking for weird trophies, etc.

HostSubmitted

Those two ideas sound super interesting, though very thematically different! Eager to see which one you'll choose ^^

Ended up not going with either one and created an eldritch horror game instead. About to send it out to beta testers. Hopefully they like it.

HostSubmitted(+1)

oh I remember seeing this one on Twitter!! Super curious about it now!

Submitted(+1)

I'm thinking a weird fantasy setting where you are a clown/harlequin/jester gathering your troupe back together (the goals). Trying to wrap my head around mechanics now, along with a way to incorporate the jokers. Have a few ideas but need to let it bake for a bit.

HostSubmitted

Saw the cover on Twitter and I'm very excited for this!

I'm thinking about a surreal horror game in which you are a Keeper in the Dreamlands. Your goal is to guide and protect the sleepers while fighting Nightmares, Sleep Paralysis creatures and/or recurring bad dreams (i.e. teeth falling out), so they can have a good sleeptime. Inspired by artists like Zdzisław Beksiński, H. R. Giger and Salvador Dalí.

Hot dang, this sounds amazing! Definitely looking forward to seeing it!

haven't quite joined yet but im considering making a game from the perspective of the last human alive on earth, because he is immortal. The danger will most likely be the environment

HostSubmitted

Oh this is super interesting! Do you have an idea of why they are immortal? And like, do they have a goal of some sort as the last human on Earth?

still in progress so i dont quite have a reason their immortal just know that there trying to find meaning to existence? So im not 100% sure i litterally just thought about this so its very loose lol. Perhaps the goal is to collect old artifacts from people's lives? Or perhaps they will be tasked to find why the world ended via exploring?
