Thank you! I love the HK art style, which was a big part of deciding to make a game trying to emulate it on the tabletop.

There wasn't a prize for the jam; it was more an open invitation to make third-party content for the game, much like many other TTRPG jams (or at least those I've been part of).
I've been careful to not include any official art, names, properties, etc. from the Hollow Knight games in any of my SHELL works, and have done my best to follow Team Cherry's guidance on fan works/merchandise from their FAQ. I've also been very open in all of the legal notices in SHELL that this is inspired by their work, and encourage everyone to go buy their video games, because this TTRPG wouldn't exist if it wasn't for them.
Still, if I ever get any indication that Team Cherry is not happy with what I'm doing, I'll either make SHELL completely free or take it down entirely. Same if I ever heard that Spencer Campbell didn't like that I made a hack of his game RUNE. SHELL has always been a labor of love that tried to emulate the video games I enjoy in a tabletop RPG format with rules I thought would fit the HK gameplay very well.
It's a bit disheartening, but understandable. I'm a pretty small-time creator, and only really advertised through BlueSky posts, so it stands to reason that it didn't get a lot of traction. I just don't really have the energy or focus to try to be more aggressive
There were a couple of posts in the jam topics with great ideas, though. I'm hoping they still end up making the projects they were working on, because I'd love to see them. I can't think of a greater honor any TTRPG can receive than enthusiastic fans making their own content for it.
I think that's a really fun idea! Running into them might be a way you could get Lore, maybe buy items, perhaps replenish your Shell-Specific Currency, or another fun way to interact with the mechanics. I look forward to seeing what you come up with, and would be very excited to help brainstorm!
I don't want the price of SHELL to be a barrier for anyone who wants to make stuff for it, so I've added a few more Community Copies. Please feel free to take one!
If you have any troubles parsing the gameplay loop, Spencer Campbell made a bunch of great videos explaining the way RUNE works, and SHELL is very close to that gameplay loop, so they could be a good resource:
These ideas all made me VERY excited!
I toyed around with some ideas for travel challenges in the core rules, but didn't want to bloat the rulebook too much. I'd love to see your take on the idea! That, and the idea of social resolution to conflict is also really cool!
8 new shells also sound amazing!
You know, some people from the RUNE community translated the original RUNE rules into a bunch of different languages; I bet that there might be someone out there willing to help make a French version of SHELL, or to help translate your realm to English! The Gila RPGs Discord server is a treasure trove of helpful people and information.
Welcome to the SHELL TTRPG Jam!
This jam is the chance for any ttrpg creator to make something for use in the SHELL ttrpg! You might consider making:
- A Realm for Nomads to explore, made up of two or more Regions
- New Shells, ancestries that are also the source of the Nomad's ability to resurrect after being slain
- New Equipment, including Weapons, Gear, Talismans, or Masks with which to equip your Nomad
- New Enemies, Unique Enemies, or Titans to battle
- Optional rules for adding new twists to SHELL gameplay
- And any other ideas that might expand or supplement the game!
Make sure to follow the rules listed on the Jam page for your submissions.
Since SHELL is built on the bones of RUNE, you can find a lot of great advice for making content in the RUNE Creator Kit, found here: https://gilarpgs.itch.io/rune-creator-kit. That's also where you will find the "Carved by RUNE" logo that you'll need to include in your submission.
If you have any questions, feel free to either comment on this post or create a new topic in this Community tab and I'll respond as soon as I can!
Thank you so much for your kind words! Knowing that people are enjoying the content I make helps keep my silly ADHD brain motivated to keep making them :)
With how robust the second edition rules are, it might take a while to get back to what I accomplished with the first edition, but I'll get there!
This looks awesome! I'm sure my usual group will be very interested in it, what with all the Silksong hype at the moment.
Just one question, though: I noticed that all of the different species' stats all added up to a total of 6, except for the Mantis, which only adds up to a total of 5. Was this intentional, or an oversight? I'm mostly curious about the design intent.
Yes! It's a supplement for the Heroes of Cerulea TTRPG, which has a very pixel-art Legend of Zelda style. Thank you for featuring it!
Thank you for these amazing icons! I used some of them in my latest game jam submission:

I do have some solid ideas for one more supplement, yes! It may be a while before I can get it done, but I am working on it. Thank you for your interest! It's really a huge motivation to keep going, knowing that people are enjoying my work.
