Well call me impressed.
Getting animated models working in your game engine isn't an easier takes for most people.
But you even made it look good. The starting-screen with the ladybug in the background was really fun.
The concept works and is original. And that all for your first game-jam.

Good job.

Thank you very much for playing and for the feedback! I'm glad someone took the time to notice the menu sequence! I had a lot of fun creating that.

Great art and systems you got here. Here's a link to my playthrough... https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1569991724?t=02h06m24s

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! I definitely agree that some of the features could be made a bit more obvious. I do plan to take this project further after the jam and have plans to address many of the issues you ran into! Thanks for sharing your playthrough. It's very insightful to see the struggles players came across.  For clarification: Insect abilities are automatic, the spells need to activated then clicked in the world to cast. I also added in an essence bonus in the background to help players out, since I tuned difficulty a bit higher. Sorry for the confusion.

Great work on the mechanics, thanks for your breakdown. I really liked the game and was happy to give feedback. Looking forward to playing your next build!

Visually very impressive. I had fun playing it. Some sound fx when the bugs die would be a fun addition I think. Great job overall!

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! I plan to take this project further after the jam, and more sfx are definitely on the list!

Good looking game.

What I like :

  • Models
  • Animations
  • UI
  • Concept

What can be improved :

  • Camera too slow and can go outside terrain
  • Before choosing insect we must see the level (I know we can move camera but the UI obstructs the vision)
  • Once started it would be great that camera follow our group

Hope it helps

Thanks for the feedback! I really like the group follow and map overview ideas. I'll definitely incorporate that as the project grows :)

The bugs look awesome and the idea's really interesting. The camera's a little slow.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Yea, that problem only exists in the browser build. I'll try to figure out what's causing it.

First gamejam? Damn! The whole gender-swap tower defence thing is really cool and the bug theme is original to the genre! Great job all round buddy.

Developer

Thanks for checking it out!

I really enjoyed the concept, it's like reverse tower defense! I also really like the bug creatures, very cool design - did you create those? If so, very well done! The dog launching cannons were pretty funny , enjoyed that. I played through it a few times and getting past the 3rd stage was a struggle no matter what my party makeup was it seems.  I think a few of the spells could use some balancing, as they either seem like they don't last long enough for the mana cost or ones like the speed up don't affect the entire party which splits them up making it actually worse for survival.  Overall though a super solid and pretty polished entry, well done!

Thanks for your feedback! I didn't  create the insect models. Since we were allowed to use assets, I figured I'd go that route so I could focus more on the gameplay and getting systems in place as I'm a relatively new developer. The balancing is definitely off and I could have spent more time on it, but the 3rd level is beatable! It's just a bit hectic. There's party comp that's best and requires liberal use of spells! I tried to put in a strategy element with party composition, but only had time to get the bare bones in. I'm very tempted to turn this into a larger game and address all these issues. This project was just to see how much I could complete in 9 days while working a full time (non dev) job haha!

Right on! Yeah balancing and pacing definitely take the most time to get right, so I don't fault you at all for that considering it's a game jam and time is tight. My game definitely suffers from some pacing issues so I get it!  I think you should definitely stick with this project and see where it goes :)

Interesting concept, and really nice graphics. Great job!

Thanks for playing!

I like it. While the UX is kind of awkward (Slow, difficult to control camera and awkward to use spells) I absolutely love the concept and execution!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I underestimated how much different the WebGL experience would be from the desktop version. Something to look into for future projects!

Nice fun concept that was executed well. The looks and plays great. I ran into a minor bug with the camera where sometimes it takes me off path and I'm unable to control it.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Unfortunately, I didn't have time to squash that bug, but glad you enjoyed it!

Really Fun! I liked this idea. It was hard to tell if the spells were doing anything once activated and took me a while to realize that you could activate them. Overall, pretty good!

Developer

Thanks for playing! There's a ton of room left for polish and fine tuning. I'd love to take this project further at some point!
