Short and sweet. I didn't really understand what to do when the cats lay down other than wait. I like the graphical style, and the frantic little animations lend a goofy fun tone. I think I bugged out the game by walking too far past the enemies, or maybe I had just reached the end. I do hope you continue, I think there's a nice core here.

Thank you! I’m glad you like the style. There are bugs that I’ve been trying to address but I’m also stuck in an endless cycle of working on the same stage and haven’t added more yet but I will. What happened when you went too far? Did you get stuck off screen or did it just not do anything else? The next update has a jumping attack but now I feel bad for the cats

There were no enemies on screen anymore and the camera stopped moving. I could move my character but the camera would no longer move to the right nor to the left.

This one is another pretty short entry. It definitely feels like it wanted to be more, but just didn't get finished for one reason or another.

The mechanics work, but could use some tweaking. It's too easy to get stunlocked, and it's too easy to run out of bubbles. I also found that the bubbles were sometimes fired off at unexpected angles- maybe a bug? It's nice and fast paced, and the movement is fluid, which are definitely pluses.

The minimalist, retro graphics aren't really my style, but they're pretty well done. The chosen palette reminds me of 80s micros more than game consoles; colours chosen for text and you've just got to make the best of them for graphics. Not a bad thing. Sound effects are sparse, but well chosen.

The premise is very weird. Not a plus or minus, just a comment.

Thank you I appreciate the fair, thorough critique. I'll get to work on addressing these points asap

Cute graphics and concept! It’s a decent game but I wish there was more. The gameplay is too simplistic and minimal, but it’s impressive that you made this in a week. The cat attacks feel unique and the aesthetics, the bubbles are quite charming.

There’s this bug where if I reach the end of the level without killing all the enemies first, the player character will start to float out of the level. Luckily, moving in any direction will slowly start to bring the character back to ground level, so it is not game-breaking, but the game needs to handle these situations as well - e.g. if the first enemy was accidentally skipped, the player shouldn’t be required to walk all the way back to the beginning because the walk speed is not very fast.

Overall I had some fun casting bubbles on all the cats. Good job!

I appreciate your thoughtful review. I’ll make sure to address these items in the next update. Thank you!

I was watching the updates for this one on the MGGJ discord server!

The graphics and audio are what stand out the most to me. It's got a really charming look and feel that I like a lot.

I'm not sure how much of the SHMUP I'm feeling it in currently. I mean, you shoot bubbles, so fair enough... but without dodging or y-axis movement, it doesn't feel very SHMUP-y to me. In fact, adding Y-Axis movement would probably be my biggest suggestion.  Alternately, if you want the character to be constrained to one location (like a platformer) maybe add the ability to jump to dodge things?

There's not a ton of content currently, but with more added I could see this being a really fun game!. Great work!

This is great advice. I'm happy you like the graphics/audio. In the beginning there was the ability to move up/down as well but I constrained the movement to sideways to keep it simple for me. Lately I've been trying to add jump controls but I have to rethink how to implement it. Maybe I'll try it in the next update.

going around enemies by smashing into them is sorta interesting. Anyway, best thing is the art style and music, but there is not much else here.

Thanks, I appreciate your feedback. I will add more to it soon

The game was simple enough, but I kept repeating the same level, and the enemies didn't seem to ever attack.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback Nova. I'll definitely be adding more stages so there is no longer the repetition of the same level. More enemies than just that one also.

I haven't added a new stage yet but gave the cats ability to attack. Can you try it and let me know what you think so far?

Much better. i was getting lit up by some of those cats. Much more  enjoyable, nothing to. hard to overcome.

I don't remember how I found your game, but I loved the idea and it inspired me to make a beat'em up for the jam, heheh
