Ahh this looked interesting, was hoping to try it out but for me the camera monitor is just a black screen -- unsure if it's a new bug or something wrong with my (admittedly old) pc. (unity log: https://pastebin.com/8Kn8Ax7) . Luckily that playthrough video is available but I'd still love to read the rest of the messages haha

Developer

Hey, thanks for checking it out and for the log paste! What's interesting is that it seems to be the saving via Newtonsofts JSON convertor that is throwing some exceptions early down the line and I think this may be resulting in the uinexpected behaviour of the camera screen crapping out. I will need to improve the exception handling there for sure, thanks for discovering that!

May I ask what operating system you are trying to run this on? It seems the version of Newtonsoft.Json I am using is incompatible with whatever your system is currently running!

Need to look into solutions for running older versions of the DLL most likely!

Thanks again!

Submitted

I'm running windows 8. Possibly the problem is with other copies of Newtonsoft JSON that I've got kicking around (definitely used it myself) but that'd be a little odd.

Developer(+1)

It shouldn't be that, the dependency should be local to the build. I think I might have the solution, will be releasing a patch momentarily!

Developer

Give 1.0.0.7 a try, hopefully that fixes the issue!

Submitted

No dice, same symptoms unfortunately, although the JSON logged errors are gone - https://pastebin.com/FP8ZYkzM

Starting to think it really is just my ancient graphics card not supporting something or other, oh well. Although I haven't had issues in the past.

Developer

How unfortunate! But I suppose one bug squashed is still a result, so thanks for that!

d3d11: failed to create buffer (target 0x2 mode 0 size 0) [0x80070057] <--- this line is rather suspect. I can see you are using integrated graphics. Your hardware does support up to DirectX11.1, so it may be a constraint in the HPSX Render Pipeline.

Only thing I can think of to suggest is try getting the latest graphics drivers, the log shows you are on driver version 10.18.10.4425, latest looks like 15.33.53.5161 (found here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/18606/29969/intel-graphics-driv...) so that *might* help out.

Been saving yours for the end, because I was so excited to play it! We're like sci-fi horror CCTV bros :) anyway, loved it. That first jumpscare got me, and I loved poring through all the logs. They left just enough story to the imagination while giving those crumbs of context needed to tell a short story. Would love to see this project expanded on in time, maybe with more logs to find, some puzzles, a chance to find (and fight? and lose against?) the anomaly, etc. Seriously, good work!

Developer(+1)

Aaaaahhhh I was really hoping you'd try it out, thank you!

Yes the original plan was to have the game be less about hopping from PDA to PDA, but to have PDA have clues in them that would guide you to unlock new cameras and functionality in the screens to get you to the end goal of plotting a navigation route.

Those two blank screens in the cockpit were on until I ran out of time, I hope to bring them back soon!

I really enjoyed this! I agree with others that the ambience is great and it does kind of feel like an old scifi film ala Alien or Event Horizon.  If I had any constructive criticism it would be that I wasn't sure what to do at first and then I just ended up scanning all the messages and hitting the launch button. I wasn't sure if there was some other elements I was missing out on.

But, it was all super polished and really well done. Great job!

Developer

Thanks for checking it out.

Very valid criticism! It was going to be a bit more branching originally, but because of the deadline I had to cut quite a bit of content that likely would've made the whole experience a bit more guided.

I'll be adding more content and some fixes/improvements as time goes by, watch this space!

Very good ambience! I've felt like an old futuristic film. The game have a lot of details :)

I loved the camera controlling.

I miss more content, but it's a gamejam and there is no time for more ;)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words and thanks for giving it a go!

A lot of the content was there, but chopped at the last minute as it wasn't quite ready. Stay tuned.

Well, I hope you continue this game :)

Nice work!

Thank you, if your game is jump scare free, I'll give it a try out in return!

Loved the atmosphere, and the design of the aesthetics and sound selection. You also really nailed it with the CCTV camera rendering. I'm playing a lot of these entries right now, but overall this is certainly one that I think has enough substance and style to be fleshed out into a larger experience. Such a wonderful job Grim. Can't rate because I borked the deadline, but excited to see what else you come up with. Happy to have jammed with ya, and what a wonderful game for only ten days gawdamn.

Developer(+1)

This comment fills my heart. Thank you so much for the kind words <3

I am adding bits to it piece by piece, it won't be a *full* release, but it will certainly have a bit more character than it does now. Watch this space!

Gladly! This is right up my alley

Short and sweet!

Unfortunately, didn't read any of the messages, because I wanted to "nope the F" out of there ASAP, so... A+ for atmosphere!

Developer

Thanks for the kind words, a lot of the story elements got cut to allow the game to be actually finishable by the deadline, I hope to bring some back at some point!

This may be a longshot, but I'd love to see a collaboration between you and https://itch.io/jam/scream-jam-2021/rate/1246979 :)

Developer

I'm game if they are :)

It has some great ideas going! Really enjoyed the camera section with the scanning, I think that in itself had a lot of potential, I wanted to explore a bit more, and maybe walk through ducts or something hahaha!

The visuals for the monitors and the scanners was on point! The characters were very minimalist but I know with the time we had, we had to do what we could.

The story sometimes was a bit difficult to follow, maybe a bit more elaboration or continuation between the logs would have added more suspense.

As for the ending I expected a bit more dread out of it, but it was sort of anti climatic.

The sound was sort of lacking, which is a big aspect of horror, i think with a bit more sound it would have made the game a lot better as well.

Overall the game was fun, had some good ideas, and I think has potential for more!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for checking it out! Nearly all of the things you mentioned I had to cut out due to time! I'm not planning on taking this to a finished product, but I am adding back the bits and pieces I didn't have time to finish off over the next few weeks (just now pushed a small patch that improves a few of the visual quirks!)

Submitted

Just finish playing the game! i really like the small details like the changing screens on the option settings really does create a life to the game , the gameplay itself was also pertty fine , my only advice would be having like some creepy sounds like something is getting close to make the player feel more nervous and stuff. Taking that i am sucker for a good old pixel filter so Good game.

Developer

Thanks for checking it out! The lack of audio is my biggest regret with this one, ran outta time before I could add much! I'm going to add more sounds as I go, as well as some other QoL improvements!

jolly good show. opening cutscene was a great touch. not a lot of sound, but when it was there it was very effective. one thing that i could really pick out that I liked was the story being told through context and the environment. great design work in that regard

Developer

Thanks for checking it out, I managed to squeeze a few more sounds into it last thing (not as many as I would've liked) so that is addressed a little bit at least.
