This is a very interesting entry~ It gave me a bit of the same feeling as a game called 'Sweet Home' on the NES- very spooky! If this game were to be expanded, it would be nice to invest heavily in that feeling... I think some more dynamic room sizes would help to create an even greater sense of exploration (some medium-sized rooms, some closet-sized rooms, etc.), and maybe limiting the player to only being able to see into an adjacent room if the door is open. But those are just some ideas~ Great work!

Thanks for the feedback! It was a toss up in the beginning whether to take Sweet Home as inspiration for sound and music, or Silent Hill and such games. In the end we tried out matching Hi Def sounds with Low Rez imagery.  But it'd be cool to see more games try to authentically match Sweet Home's atmosphere!

I was only able to get up until where the dog was discovered but I felt I was lost a lot of the time even with the map because all the rooms were large and most of the time empty. Although the sprites and backgrounds seem to be in 64 x 64, the character movements are not. I feel the game portrays itself as a horror and the atmosphere is definitely there so kudos for that and also coordinating such a large team together.

Did you have trouble finding the key? Is that why you felt you were lost?

I was able to find a couple keys after alot of searching around, I know this was maybe a side effect of the procedural generation which I applaud you for. If you're able to tweak the game to generate a few more enemies from the start, I think that would make things a bit more engaging.

Excellent! Nice spooky sounds and cool sprites/tiles. Sometimes I got stuck when walking alongside a wall and had to step away into the room to free myself - not a big deal, worth fixing if you can though...

Thanks for playing, and the feedback! The walls are multiple colliders at the moment, so we need to go back and combine them. I'll make sure to do it next update 🙂

Very brave attempting procedural generation for a jam, I will applaud you for that! I do wish there were more details or variations here and there because the rooms felt big and empty. I like what you did with the audio, it was probably my favorite part. All in all, great work!

Developer

Thanks 😊

We had plans to populate the rooms, and even had some sprites done. But we probably needed another 24 hours to get them added

Yup! as Velo said, the Sprites were in the making for this game. Its actually the next step for the game after the jam!
