In what way does your game fit the theme?
You have to carry a light orb with the soul of your fallen companion to complete your quest. They can't complete it without you now that they're gone, and you can't complete it without them and their protection, you're stronger together.

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I wrote all of the code and made all of the art for this jam, but the background music was found online and is credited in the description.

cool game, passed it, monsters with faces reminded me of alice in nightmare land, monsters, with faces of porcelain dolls, it was super, atmospheric, add an even bigger storyline and more levels, and you can iron on google play: D

the music and sfx really fits with the overall tone of the game! maybe having different music for different health could be a way to kick things up a notch haha even though the enemies are stressful enough for me !

Mind rating our game too? https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-5/rate/929064

Art is really good, everything has lots of great visual feedback. Also just the art in general and the lighting looks good. Same deal for sound. Stuff like having a different attack swing, hit, and kill sound improves the experience. Music works well for the dark exploration vibe. Game elements were introduced well from a design perspective. Ending sequence was nice.

One minor nitpick is I would have liked a "healed" sound. I did not notice I was being healed until pretty late.  Oh also you probably shouldn't need full-screen to specify a particular resolution. You can get a particular resolution by usuing a Canvas Scaler component set to "Scale with ScreenSize, switching to minimal player in the player settings tab of build settings, and specifing the desired resolution in itch's game settings.

Definitely agree with the game needing some sort of sound for the healing, that would have helped convey the mechanic much better, and thank you for the tip on the canvas too! That's something that I've been struggling to figure out with webgl so I'll give that a shot for my next project!

Agree with others on the atmosphere, very well done. The dropping and picking up of the light gets a little tedious, but I get what you were going for. Nice job.

I loved the lighting, and the art. The whole feel of the game was really well done. All the time I felt lonely, a little scared, and the darkness made it real somehow. As if I tried to look at the creatures in the dark, always searching but never sure. Nice job.

This was a solid experience all the way through. The art style and color choice was matching with the atmosphere that you were going for. The light orb was interesting and I think could have benefited from using it as a puzzle element instead of just a health generator.  The game was cool but the combat was kind of slow and repetitive, especially with only one enemy type that all you had to do was a hit and run tactic. Overall nice work. It reminded me of a gameboy game lol

I streamed it here:

Thanks for playing and streaming it! It was interesting seeing your experience through the game. I definitely agree about the combat and the lack of puzzle elements with the orb, I had more ideas for mechanics to go alongside both but unfortunately ran out of time, so they kind of stand out. Glad you seemed to appreciate the atmosphere though, and thank you for the feedback!

Oooh, this was a dark game. I enjoyed the ambience and the overall setting of this game. I also really like the healing effect, it makes the levels much more bearable to go through. The audio and graphics go well together, and the combat system is pretty basic but also fairly challenging at some points.

I'm not really sure what dropping and picking up the light ball adds to the game though. For me, the game would play out the same if the light stuck with you permanently. I would add some switches that you have to drop the light ball on so the player has to risk himself in the shadows more often.

Overall, great entry and I really liked what you've made. That ending was super dark, lol.

The way you've constructed your art and gameplay together makes it's extremely immersive. I doesn't feel like a game made in one week,  it feels like something  a popular youtuber plays and everyone loves it.  Great job, dude!
