How long have you been using NESmaker?
Comments
Yes, this was done in a month. The greener area which the houses were my own tile set from a game I was working on, but the mountain, cave, and organic areas was all made in a month. Including the npcs, monsters, player, and comic board, and of course the title screen.
A friend of mine Paterico Pereira help with the dash coding, sound, and music. But yeah this wasn't easy. I put hours in daily to pull it off and still didn't include everything.
Glad you liked it.
Dude, this game is without a doubt one of my top 3 favorite submissions. The artwork is beautiful, the dash and combat feels great, and it has just the right amount of a "puzzle" aspect to it. Finding that last key on the final part of the demo was tough but i'm glad I took the time to search for it. Great job!
Good work here, Good game awesome graphics and I like how you made Florida look like a Temperate wonderland... like I bet the girl at the Wendy's in your Florida would know how to spell Alex and they wouldnt assign me to bathroom parking lot instead of a campsite at the KOA. Little bit exposition for my tastes but I consider Final Fantasy 1 the best game in the series, so I wouldn't trust my opinion.
" and I like how you made Florida look like a Temperate wonderland... like I bet the girl at the Wendy's in your Florida would know how to spell Alex and they wouldnt assign me to bathroom parking lot instead of a campsite at the KOA"
You kind of lost me in your analogy. Are you referring to it this way because I mentioned about your music? The comment wasn't meant to upset you, but to be aware. Even my stuff has flaws, but I take those criticism, note it down, and make improvements the best that I can. But thanks for your comment ^_^ can't wait to see improvements for both our projects and thank you for being honest.
Very impressive title. Definitely my favorite to play so far in byte off 2020. Unfortunately there are a lot of tiles I got stuck on and had to go back to a previous state (I started to save often) and there's some weirdness when you talk to people twice. But, everything else is really great. This is a gem.
Stuck how? only places you can get stuck now is if you dash up where there's only one tile which i have to fix it and make it two tiles solid away from the hud. I you got stuck in a block during transitioning stages that's the Nesmaker itself. Only two text glitches I know. One if you dash into the auto text and the other if you speak to Dale twice which is out of my hands lol
but glad you liked it :D
This is one of my favourite games of the competition so far. The dash effect is so smooth, the game's physics feel so enjoyable to play. I am impressed with the art style and animations. Love all the references to stuff we know about as well. So many little touches to appreciate. Something about shooting that gate open felt so good. I admit I did end up getting stuck several screens into the monster area, is there an end to this? I am inspired by your work and love that dash mechanic. Also interested in the snare sound in your intro music, I think it uses the noise channel but I couldn't get a snare that tight.
Hey Vufka,
Glad you enjoyed the game thus far. You mentioned you got stuck with the enemies? Can you explain what happened? Two known factors:
1: When I designed the stages I made certain screens have one tile away from the hud. Some how at the right distance the dash forces the players hitbox to reach the hud forcing it to the other screen. I adjusted some of the areas but I ran out of time to do it to everything else.
2: If you follow the path, say you went from one screen to another and it puts in an edge you weren't suppose to be in, sadly there's nothing we can do about it now. Its a current bug in NESmaker.
Oh, I didn't mean stuck as in a bug. I got to a cave hole in the mountain and couldn't get in, but felt like I had explored everything else. I didn't know what else to do. I did end up getting physically stuck (your option #2 in your response) going down one screen from there, but that's just because there was only one walkable tile of space before a solid, my game has a couple lingering instances of that too.
The graphics and story on this game are so great and knowing who the characters are makes it even cooler. I want to play through it, but I've had 3 attempts and haven't been able to get into Dale's house. I suspect it has to do with screen triggers from text. I will keep trying because game looks so interesting.
NOOO! LOL save a lot when playing the demo. Any demo really. But don't worry there's things I will be fixing and adjusting so this doesn't happen. A lot of things I looked at it as an artist perspective and not the players. Im a gamer myself and when things didn't feel right I should had went with my gut feeling. But is a learning experience. But I am happy and grateful that people are enjoying the demo. It means a lot to me. Thank you.
What do you mean? All you have to do is walk up close to the door and it should let you go in. Between the character's hit box and the warp placement I guess its a little hard to align. Ill note this down to make sure it's easier for players to access the warp tile to places.
Give it a try and let me know. Glad you like the artwork though.
Man the details matter! Chaos was an engrossing experience in itself! The detail in the artwork. The care and attention and techniques used make you stare in disbelief that this is an NES game.
A few notes:
1: Do not speak to Dale again when he fixes your gear. Do Seiji's quest to be able to talk to him again. Doing so will crash the game after the text for some reason.
2: When DP says: "I need to go to the back of his neck" you need to place yourself by Alex's head until you are warped to the final stage in the Demo. I should had put another warp tile in that area to help the player hit detection.; but its there.
3: Use Mesen's Save points to back up incase any glitches may occur.
4. DO NOT press "B" while AUTOTEXT is active. This will break the dash for some reason. Normal NPC text is fine.
Awesome graphics. The intro was really funny and took me by surprise. Great work!
