This game really felt like Zelda II or Battle of Olympus. It was really well made and I want more. Controls felt really good.
Wow! Blown away, so much polish in this thing. I love the little touches like how you used the full color palette to add a bit of anti-aliasing to your text and HUD. The damage and death VFX are great. Everything has great feedback, the sprite and tile work is top notch, even unfinished and dead end areas you took the time to spell out "THE END" or "WIP" to communicate to the player.
I'm only sad that there isn't more.
Really enjoyed playing this game. The player animates very well and feels great to control. It is also very satisfying to kill monsters. It looks like a shop and magic abilities are something you are planning to add too which is really cool. Nice job!
Love that YS and Link II feel to it. One thing I need to point out (people things its not too important) music is just as important. I enjoyed the game but that dungeon music was driving me crazy. BUT! I love the town house music. it had me laughing because (I am not sure if you intended it that way) the NPC's dance to the beat :D over all can't wait to see more coming from this game. Keep up the good work.
Agree about the Faxanadu comments, also reminded me a little of Castlevania, the first TMNT, maybe Talespin for Game Gear? Even Prince of Persia. I had fun trying to not be lost. Good textures and art that really gives a nod to some classic games.
