In what way does your game fit the theme?
The game is a 90's Movie Rental Store simulator. You work in the returns section and it is very important to rewind the vhs tapes!

Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I have done everything by myself, except the music but all clips are royalty-free (credits to Danya Vodovoz).

Really nice game! Maybe not having such an organized line of costumers and being able to talk to others while rewinding the tapes would have given the feeling of having a higher choice in the game.

But that might be just me, apart from that everything feels good. Definitely a nice game, I really enjoyed it! Keep it up!

I would really appreciate if you could also check out my game and leave a rating, thanks :)

Interesting idea, what separates this from other games about rewinding VHS tapes is that you earn a salary as well as upgrades that you can purchase with your earned money, which is a really nice feature. The gameplay is too tedious in my opinion, I think behind able to handle multiple customers while rewinding multiple tapes would make it feel a little more chaotic. All the art looks great, and I like how the customers change their expressions when they have been waiting for longer. Well done!

Yo’ Templar here,

  • The art fits the game well.
  • The mechanics play with the theme perfectly.
  • Simple to play, easy to pickup at the beginning and gets more challenging progressively. It does need some balancing tho.

Somethings to note would be: *I can get boring quickly if there’s no “plot twist” or something to keep the player engaged outside of just trying to get a good score.

I wanted to introduce some different endings and stories to motivate the gamer to play and make it more similar to Papers Please but I removed because of the time limit. I will add in future updates, sure. Thanks!

Nice game! I had fun :)

I played for quite a while. Really like papers, please and you did a really good job with the game's artstyle!

The 'Change Music' button is a really nice touch. The game is really polished.

It would have been interesting to be able to buy more rewinding machines. That way you could play longer by managing more than one tape being rewinded at the same time. But that's just an idea. The game felt awesomely done for the time you had in the game jam. Congrats!

A second or more vhs players was an idea but had to remove to simplify the project but Ill work on it, thank for playing and reviewing!

I had a few issues with this game. Not only does it take so long to rewind a tape, but the store gets overcrowded way too quickly. I also don't like how the control scheme was, especially how tedious it was to take out a tape and move it around. The references in the game were fun, but that's about it.

Hilarious! Outstanding! Well done!
I enjoyed this game. This is a nice copy cat of the papers please. The graphics have the right touch. I love that rewind animation. The comments of the people give the game the correct feeling. Here are some feedback points I wanted to share:

  • The pause should be skippable
  •  The first working session was very easy but after that, it was getting very hard, because all tapes had to be rewind too much. This was sort of the cracking point in the fun factor.
  •  The UI needs a bit more intuitive touch. The Drag functionality into the recorder and inside the box was the right decision and I guess the game would have gone a bit better if you would have done this on all UI interaction. Because I wanted to open the case by clicking on it and not hitting the button. And taking the tap could also be done by a drag option.
  • I had problems to know if I should rewind or pick the next customer
  • The comments were sometimes long and I couldn't always read them to the end before disappearing

Here are some ideas for the future if you want to continue working it:

  •   Respond to the people to get a better salary.
  • Add more detail to the tape, so you have a better feeling of how much you have to rewind.

Thanks for this great review. Your right in every point and I'm working on it.

I started without UI buttons but I got stuck so I improvised (need to learn more about how to handle colliders, raycast and layers). The difficult is broken, I also discovered it is impossible to lose; and I am going to change the salary system. And the tapes have already different sprites depending on rewind percentage but I can add more sprites inbetween.
