In what way does your game fit the theme?
It is based on a classic music cassette, that has to be rewinded as a core mechanic

Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I wrote all the code myself and made all art from scratch

Nice game! The music is the real protagonist of the game, good choice about the assets. And the game has  showed no bugs to me. Good job ;)

Nice! It was a fun game. I tried really hard to get past the first level and it left me wondering: Is there another level? / another song in the game?

I have some suggestions to make it a little better.

Make it more clear if enemies hit. Sometimes it was confusing when an enemy was near and I couldn't tell if I got it or did it get through. It would also help if you make a counter showing how much life player has left.

Also make something more obvious to inform the cassette needs to be rewinded. Maybe a flashing screen, a text prompt, sound or something.

Thanks for your feedback (and your awesome game, which I loved)!

And no, there is (currently) no other level since it is only meant as a super-casual "pastime" game.
I could add a highscore board in the next update so each game would be battling against yourself from the past
(like in the old arcade games:
"123 BOB
  109 ALC
  033 LOL")
Any ideas what I could do for a different level?

There are actually three songs in the game, which you can choose in the OPTIONS menu :)

If the enemies hit you / got through there should be a big red particle explosion around you - is this working for you? And yes, I wanted to add some health indicator for the player, but did not have enough time in the end to integrate it "seamlessly" - but I will do that in the next update.

For the end of the cassette tape I think I will add an option whether the game music should stop as well or maybe be muffled somewhat. I did not want it to be super-obvious as I think that is part of the challenge to wach the little spools from time to time ;)

Thanks to you! :)

Hmm.. You are on the right track. There should be something new to keep player motivated. Different monsters maybe? Or power up objects that make monsters flee. Like in Pac man for example. Maybe rests? The music stops for a while and neighbors return to their home. But after a short period the music continues and they become mad again. And you could make a boss. It is always fun to have a boss in every game.

I tried the game again and yes there is an explosion when someone hits you. That actually looks like fireworks to me. Maybe that's why I did not recognize that I was hit. :)

Maybe you could inform the player a few seconds after that the tape has ended? Then there would still be a reward for being sharp but it would not impact so much if you forget it while making the neighbors happy.

This was a very nice and original game considering it was your first one. I'd try to add some more gameplay depth to it, be it a new mechanic, enemies or notes. Rewinding the music would be cool, I see you're using unity, you can achieve this by setting the pitch value of the audio source playing the music to -1. Having said this, great job and keep it up!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you especially for the tip with the pitch value - I will definitely try this out :D

I like the vibe of this game and I think the main game mechanic is very interesting. I was left in a couple of difficult situations where I had to choose carefully which grumpy person I had to give the notes to. The enemy spawning felt a bit unfair at times when I only had one note but there were two enemies so maybe in a post-jam version you could tinker around with balancing that out. Overall a pretty nice game and I had a nice time with it. Nice submission!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback!

And yes, the balancing is definitely planned for a post-jam version (factoring in the sum of all current notes' lengths and active enemies' types/colors) - and having difficulty levels that provide "none" or up to "two" extra"notes in relation to enemie count

Game-play was basic. But rewind wise, if the audio itself was wound back as you rewinded, or stopped playing when the cassette was 'empty', it'd have felt more like the theme itself.

Developer

Thanks for your good feedback, I also want to implement this in the next version.

Cool game, but i feel it needs something more in terms of gameplay to be a complete experience.

The art, music, menu were all done very well.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback.

Would you have any  suggestion what I could add for more gameplay?
I intended it is a diverting casual game, that one could play e.g. on a tablet/phone (in a future version) to pass a few minutes while riding the bus - so I also don't want to overcomplicate it ;)

Cool idea, and the music was a good choice. The only thing that kind of threw me off is that all of the spawns seemed random. I could only get a score of 14 on medium before 3 enemies would spawn when I had no notes and no rewind left.

Very cool for being made in a week though.

Developer

Thanks for playing and your feedback!

And yes, this is where I sadly ran out of time in the end.. The note spawns are currently only based on the number of active enemies (1 extra note for medium, 2 for easy). In a future version after the jam I want to factor in the sum of all current notes' lengths and the active enemies' types/colors as well.
