There was no reasonable explanation given as to why all the extra content couldn't just be in another update.

That's kind of the whole thing... He could have made 1.9 and then 1.9.1; 1.9.2; 1.9A or whatever for the extra content. Like he has done several times prior.

Instead it turned into scope creep and all the deadlines passed without any real reason for them to. He could have done half of the work, released that, then did the other half and released that. Same timeline, same work done, just more releases for the people to enjoy.

If anything he might be creating more work doing it all at once if there is no proper version control etc. since more bugs might slip in that become harder to track and resolve. Considering he's also revising old content at the same time it might become a complete soup. I'm sure he's a competent dev and it'll all be fine in the end but you can't help but worry about it at least a little. Especially with the deadline eventually turning into 'It'll be finished whenever it is'. For a lot of people that's seen as a red flag in content development. (for the record I'm not saying it actually is one in this case.)

As for the 'more content' a lot of it has historically been catered to a very small minority shouting loudly on discord to have it. The majority of players might not ever even interact with it (or be averse to it). So the update having that as an extra or not doesn't really matter to them. That's kind of besides the point though... Since we haven't really been told much about what's actually being added as extra content aside from the planned content, it's difficult to say what to expect. (In all fairness, I, like a lot of other people no doubt, also haven't dug much deeper than what has been publicly posted here and there, so there might be things I'm not aware of)

If there were at least some more explanations/updates or teasers of what is actually coming, I don't think it would have ever reached this point of malcontent, to be honest.

"As for the 'more content' a lot of it has historically been catered to a very small minority shouting loudly on discord to have it. The majority of players might not ever even interact with it (or be averse to it)."

Being very vague here, why not be honest and actually quantify and say what you mean by this instead of using open ended soft terms?

Why are you so invested exactly? It just seems like you are trying to pick a fight where there isn't one.

(1 edit) (-1)

Avoiding the question entirely I see. You're just a concern troll who wants to stir the pot because you don't like certain content.

"Yeah, that vocal minority insisting on seeing two men go at it in a game about the player and Anna is kind of odd to me as well. It sort of matches the world setting, so I can sort of understand why it's there in this case. It could probably also just be its own game, though, if we're being fair."

"The very obvious solution with including kinks in your game is usually to just make an alternate version of the kink scenes with an option to toggle the content if you want. Making that content is a big time sink already and having most of the people just not even engage with that content only makes it a bit of a waste of time otherwise."

Ah, you did say what you really think before. The content is purely optional, but that isn't enough for you, you just don't want it to exist at all.

This is a situation where you, yet again I should add, completely disregard the content of the conversation and start nitpicking to attempt to create some sort of 'gotcha' moment instead of actually adding to the conversation. The statement isn't going to change just because I happen to refer to different content than you had in mind.

Did you create that account just to troll and sow discord and hatred or something? With every comment you post, that seems to become increasingly more true at least.

If you insist on an answer, though, I don't mind answering your question. I'm not avoiding anything at all. I'm a functional adult capable of debate, and I don't mind being corrected if I'm wrong. In fact, learning opportunities like that are usually welcomed. You should maybe try joining the debate sometimes.

There are multiple niche fetishes present. There are several -dere types in the game; there is a sweaty, greasy tomboy and robot sex, etc. too. Not all of those are for everybody. So yes, I was more general for a reason. These ones are somewhat agreeable to the general population, though.

For the averse bit  I was, however, mainly referring to, as just about everybody knows and it didn't really need saying, the hermaphrodite content.  Or rather, what is wrongly tagged as 'hermaphrodite' (yes, that's what 'futanari' refers to) and is actually just gay/shemale/trans content, as they don't have both sexes but only have male sex organs.

The people that consume futa and/or gay/trans content make up a highly niche single-digit percentage of the adult population. In other words, well over 90% of the population does not enjoy that content or does not willingly seek it out at the very least.

There is nothing wrong with liking that content, of course, you do you. Nobody is judging here. It is simply the reality of the situation that it is not everybody's cup of tea.

p.s. "The content is purely optional, but that isn't enough for you, you just don't want it to exist at all." I pity you if that is what you got out of my previous statement. Content being optional is the same as it not existing already if you're not into that type of content. That was the point I was making back then. It's simply a bit of a waste for that content to be optional when it could be enjoyed by everybody if there were alternative versions. It's not the same at all. Also, for the record, it wasn't always optional. ๐Ÿ˜…

You contradict your previous statement. "It could probably also just be its own game, though, if we're being fair." What's "fair" about it not being in this game? This implies its existence in this game is unfair.

"The very obvious solution with including kinks in your game is usually to just make an alternate version of the kink scenes with an option to toggle the content if you want."

Why is this obvious? Why should there be versions of certain characters just to cater to people who dislike their existence in the game? Why just, not do those character's content? A tad hypocritical of you to bemoan the development of the update, yet endorse creating alternatives for certain characters.

"That was the point I was making back then. It's simply a bit of a waste for that content to be optional when it could be enjoyed by everybody if there were alternative versions."

I'm not going to get into the terminology debate, I don't care for it. But this is vile. The characters have been designed to be what they are. "Just change the gay character into a woman." There is one femboy, and 3 futas that have content. (I'm sure you'll mention the Starmaker page for Rose as well.)  You have claimed "As for the 'more content' a lot of it has historically been catered to a very small minority shouting loudly on discord to have it." You never quantified what amount of "more content" exactly, it's a very small percentage of the full game.

"It's not the same at all. Also, for the record, it wasn't always optional."

I assume you're referring to the spotting minigame? So simply seeing the characters is bad, I understand.

Also claiming nobody is judging futa and femboy content is at best ignorant and more than likely purely disingenuous.

Hello there,
While is true that previously some lettered releases have had some extra content, it was content that was thought out after the release and was implemented together with bugfixes. The "As for the 'more content' a lot of it has historically been catered to a very small minority shouting loudly on discord to have it" is not really true, everything is taken into consideration if it makes sense and Kal himself wants to add the content.
I can 100% understand that some people might feel uneasy about the development taking this long, which has never happened to this scale before BUT there are things that are not really right, the developer of anything has full control over the decision of how to release the content that is being worked on, there is really no need for an answer for "why all the extra content couldn't just be in another update?" as it was decided to be done for 1.9 to reduce the time needed to add such content and polish near the steam release after 2.0.

Some work has been shown of what's to come without giving spoilers, and some reworks have also been shown, is not like there has been full radio silence since the last update. There are people that say the last update was last year, even though 1.8B (yes, is a lettered update for bugfixes, but it also included a decent amount of content) was around 4 months ago.

This part I don't see how it comes to be a point "If there were at least some more explanations/updates or teasers of what is actually coming". Again, yes, the deadline for the given estimate release was missed, but an explanation, and teasers were given.

Also, on the topic of people that might worry about the update, I can understand it maybe from a newcomer, but most of the complaints come from people that has seen previous updates, that have seen work has been done with Starmaker and that has been advised WON'T be abandoned and will be finished with the 2.0 and steam release updates.

'not really true' so it sort of is, yeah we know. It's been brought up before. ๐Ÿ˜…

=> That's not how that works or definitely not how it's supposed to ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Generally, you don't really reduce the time for the work by reducing the amount of versions; at least not significantly. Especially not if you're implementing the new features one by one. If you're doing a bit of everything at once or if you plan to test and bugfix every version extensively etc. yourself though then perhaps an argument can be made. But that's not usually how it goes. It's also not unusual to release an update and have the people essentially be the testers finding bugs. I'm not sure how Kal does his work but I suppose there might be some truth to it being faster as one update. (not if he keeps scope-creeping though ๐Ÿ˜†)

For the rest of the text about development, sure, I agree for the most part, as I said it's just odd for somebody who has historically been quite consistent to then not be. Especially when the methodology suddenly strays from so many of the general 'best practices'. But yes, it's Kal's project, they can do whatever they want with it. I'm merely just stating how people might think about it.

=> Not so much on this platform. I didn't say there wasn't any at all though. But for this platform, the few that were there were mainly people following the discord etc. and posting it here for other people so they were made aware. That and a few posts made by you yourself which can be mostly summed up as 'Delayed again, work is being done, won't spoiler too much.' which is something, but it is a bit of a 'nothing burger' for most. It honestly doesn't tell you much of what is actually going on. Especially for those unaware of how development progresses. There is a reason a lot of creators have started using 'progress bars' to visualise what's going on even if these bars mean very little in a lot of cases.

Personally I think it's a bit odd to not show off some of the best bits to come to get people excited and wanting to work towards getting that scene themselves. A censored scene, a line of text that speaks to the imagination, etc. could also be great options without giving too much away. Perhaps it's intentionally not being shown because it would only lead to more people wanting it sooner, I suppose.

In the end people are only this frustrated because they simply want more of something great and can't wait for the next release. So it only makes sense for people who have played prior releases to complain more than new people. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Good Sir I assure you, I've been screaming, shouting and hollering there on the daily and I still haven't received my Amelia x Roberts scenes. I can confidently say it doesn't work like that.

I think you are just too horny for a game that is free with a solo dev. ยฏ\_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ
