At first I thought I needed to farm gear, but later I realized the goal was to go deeper into the cave. I finally beat the game! A very good experience, smooth controls, exciting combat, and lots of equipment. Attack, knockback, speed, health, plenty of variety.

Developer

I wanted to give you a pacifist achievement if you kill nobody but I ran out of time hahah :D

But you can go a lot faster if you loot and kill the slimes with the powerup warp. I think the current record is finish the gaming in 0:36

Thanks for playing!

BTW: Congrats on the #2 spot for presentation and #5 spot overall! Well deserved! :-)

The game was really enjoying, The animations, particle effects, combat all are so smooth, the game is polished and gameplay was hooking. I was thinking about one thing, If the poison kills us in 5 minutes and there is no clear stage conditions we can just keep running while spamming attack and finish the game early. Thats what i did in the second run lol. Great game overall.

Developer(+1)

Yup haha :D

And I have said this before in different comments but I didn't want to force a clear condition on the level. what I should have done instead is make my levels have a few narrow passages or make the enemies track you better in some way. But I didn't think about that at the time. I was  happy I got it in this shape in the time we got to finish :-)

Thanks for playing!!

Okay this was so much fun! The instant I jumped down the hole I felt all powerful hacking and slashing my way through the slimes.

Developer

The hacking and slashing is half the game :D Brainless fun. The other half is looting. But honestly the looting is mostly optional. Gotta go fast!

Thanks for playing!

I made it to the antidote!
First thing that needs to be addressed, that theme song : cheff's kiss!
Once I jumped in the hole, dopamine levels went up by 299%

After a while though, I noticed the ticking clock and stopped fighting the monsters, just ran past all of them.
I managed to run all the way to the end from there, only having to fight 3 or 4 more monsters when getting cornered.
Not sure if that was the intended outcome, but I felt really smart!

Nice entry for sure :D

Developer

Haha thanks ! :D

Happy you stuck around for the theme song :-) Felt silly when I sang that. But it made sense at the time (cough)

You're not the first person to tell me the slimes are too easy to just avoid, but if you want a good time there's actually a strat to it that involves killing and warping to them ;-)

But I will admit I should have added some tight corridors to force you to go through at least some fights :-)

Thanks for playing and the kind words!

wow, I love the vocals at the start and game is really fun, you could make full game with this(it kinda is). also did you make all the music, its super cool I really like it.

Developer

No I only made the intro song at the grassy part in the beginning. The song in the cave came from pixabay. The license is allowed for non-commercial titles. But it's so perfect that if I continue this game I would probably pay for it :-)

Thanks for playing! Much appreciated. Glad you listened to my vocals lol

This game is amazing! The art is fantastic; the music, effects, and combat made me feel like I was playing a Steam game! I'm impressed you managed to create such a polished game in such a short time. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much!

The truth is that I made none of the art myself: It is all free asset packs I found online :-) But the visual style of the game with the lighting effects lets me get away with a bit more of a discrepancy :-)  None of the art matches but it doesn't feel like that because the game is so chaotic.

All I really did was tweak the character controller to make it feel chaotic and action packed :-) (+ a loot system haha)

Thanks for playing and all the nice words. <3

Developer

Since I'm making a lot of videos I thought I would make one about my own game. Just some dev ramblings after a long week :-) To anyone who is interested in the game, here you go:

It looks really good with the 3D and 2D mixed.  I played it on my laptop and didn't have an external mouse, but the attacks didn't work (could also be just only my laptop)  It was still really fun to run around and avoid the slimes with the music and graphics!

Developer

Thanks! I definitely recommend a mouse :D You need it for aiming and stuff.

But glad you like the music and graphics. :-)

You got the recipe for a good roguelike, there are some changes i would suggest though.

Attacking while holding click, moving the camera a bit so you can see what's behind you, a shader or something to highlight upgrades behind walls, and a more refined visual feedback for attacking, which was kinda confusing to me as both the sprite and the vfx are meant to do that but they pretty distinct animations.

Overall, i can see this turning into an actual commercial game👍

Developer(+1)

Yeah actually I should have definitely added a shader to show the player behind walls! You are right. So obvious now that you say it :-) I think Godot 4.6 even has built in capabilities for this so it wouldn't even have been any work :D

I wasn't sure about moving the camera. Now the level is directed towards the top of your screen because that gives you the most speed in that direction (with the power up teleport).

Good feedback thanks for playing!

I really like 2.5D games! Here are the pros and cons:

+ Excellent graphics

+ Enjoyable gameplay

+ I liked how the limitation was implemented

- The enemies aren't very well designed

Overall, a very good game. Probably one of the best at the jam, especially if the enemies are a little smarter.

Developer

I couldn't agree more with you. :-)  Enemies are not well designed. It's meant to be a bit silly. They are dumb and can fall off of ledges. But I do think (I said this in previous post) that there should have been more points where you are forced to fight them. It's now too easy to ignore.

Of course in a bigger game I would have more enemy variations so that you would have to try harder. But the intention was always to have a brainless hack and slash with some basic looting

Thanks for playing and feedback! I totally appreciate it :-)

Submitted

It’s a good game, but the enemies aren’t very well thought out. I managed to get through the whole game without touching a single enemy or taking a hit. Perhaps the enemies should be stronger, or perhaps you should have to defeat a certain number of them to progress to the next level.

Developer(+1)

Yeah haha :D I wanted to add a "pacifist run" mention at the end game (if your slime kill is 0).

You are right that I should have had more situation where you are forced to fight, like thing bridges and pathways. I don't like forcing a minimum kill count per area because I want the player to just go around the map and have fun. It's not too serious.

But I do agree it shouldn't have been so simple to just ignore the enemies.

Thanks for playing!! Appreciate the feedback :D

Submitted

Like how you could make all the slimes fall into the hole.

Developer

You're the first to mention this and I couldn't agree more. I didn't intend this to happen. I don't have path finding its just a generic "move to player" velocity vector, and this was an unintended consequence. I kept it in because its too funny :-)

Thanks for playing!
