Very fun and creative writing. The twitch integration idea is gold.

- I thought the sprites were adorable, and I enjoyed chat's gimmick very much. Great effort
- Pure art. Honestly do not know how I didn't see the twist coming from miles away. 11/10 game thanks for joining the jam!
Who worked on your submission?
Yup, just me
How does your submission fit the theme?
All enemies are bald and the curse affects bald people only, also hp is called hair points and to regain hp you use shampoo and rogane, also the revive item is a wig

At first I was like hmmm Joey is pretty pixel-y, I wonder if the file of his pic is too big for the program, than I see a very HD Walter White xD
I cannot believe you managed to get full chat integration! Truly an amazing technology, great job to you and the entire planet!
I am glad you enjoyed the game!
For most of the dev time Dilto told you "I know it's a hassle but we need to fight our way through" in that room LOL but decided on excluding the hassle part and requiring you to fight a less enemies in that room if you just want to get through, just know I could have been way more evil lmao
just fixed bugs!
When I exported from RPG Maker MV it asked to "exclude not used files" so I pressed that and when the build was completed I just opened it to see if it launched and uploaded that, not knowing that using that export method excluded files that I needed and it crashed the game, so when someone let me know I just exported it again without checking that option, and later uploaded a version where I removed everything that wasn't being used because the download size had gotten bigger, and while playtesting that smaller version now that I knew stuff could go wrong on the build version, I noticed 1 move that wasn't working as intended and I fixed that, and that was pretty much everything I changed, I still have the big size version without the small fix if you want to check that though.
Visuals aside (I really dislike stock RPG Maker assets, sorry), this had me laughing the whole way. (GOOD GRIEF HE'S BALD!)
The power progression being similar to Final Fantasy 2 is funny on its own way, considering how much Joel loathes that game.
Not that hard, didn't had to think much aside just holding the attack button. I didn't even get to abuse the Pot of Greed.
Fren's weapon progression was a bit confusing, since his starter weapon always did more damage than the bleed the second one inflicted, then he gets a weapon that hits 2-6 times, can crit and can be POOMPED by Joel.
Glad you enjoyed!
Yeah I wanted to replace the map assets but didn't have time, spent most of the time making the gameplay stuff, I barely managed to make the character sprites, they took me almost 2 full days, I'm not pretty good at art yet.
As for the final fantasy 2 inspiration, I hate that game as much as Joel does and I always wanted to do a version of it that actually feels better, I actually made it the before in rpg maker (with the equivalent of spaghetti code but in rpg maker events) but instead of implementing that I made it work in a different, less involved way to save on dev time, and also because the system I made before wouldn't really work on a short game like this.
Initially the strength growth was 5 times slower but I just decided to pump it up and scale the enemies a lot instead as I was testing the game, I put the pot because even if there's a small chance, it is joey we are talking about playing an rpg... also made sure the final boss was beatable without getting any extra weapons or using any stat increasing items, it was actually a pretty fun challenge for me specifically because of how I designed the last boss. (I don't know if you noticed the trigger for his signature attack, but if you are not using fren's last weapon it can make things tricky after you take him down to 50% health)
As for fren's weapons, the kitty claws are pretty good for bosses since they do 10% of bleed damage, but of course not every boss is vulnerable to that, and I had initially planned for random enemies to be a lot beefier but decided against that pretty late in the jam, at the end of the day I just wanted each character to have access to fun weapons, and the last fren weapon is the most fun so i definitely wanted it to be the last weapon you get, it was the first one I came up with too :)
Welp, that was a great adventure! Jokes were amazing!
You definetly need to teach fren how to use a gun, green dude didnt hit anyone with boomstick ):<
Yoo, this was actually great! The equipment system was really well handled. I liked how the weapons had different types of modifiers, like double hit or Aoe really fun mechanice.
My only problem was that the chat kinda sucked through out the game, which might have been intentional lol. Anyway, great stuff, and really clever with the chat idea! Great work!
I am glad that you enjoyed it!
And yeah I didn't want chat to do a lot of damage, so I made chat a debuffer, and item machine for the final boss lol, the idea with the arrow sign weapon was also it only being useful when you use the speed skill, but since you only get it after beating the boss in the third area, you don't have any time really to familiarize yourself with that skill and you probably don't think about the arrow sign since it's literally useless before it, but at least the speed skill was actually very useful when I tried beating the last boss with default weapons only, since the last boss can hit like a truck its valuable to be able to heal before it attacks.
I am glad you enjoyed it! :)
The whole battle system is what took me the most time, and it's the reason I didn't have time to make my own assets for the map (they would have turned ugly but I wanted to do it anyway, I am still kinda proud of Dilto).
I was also doing stat adjustments until the last few hours of the jam, so I am very happy the combat was engaging enough to make someone think of the possible strategies and combos you had access to :)
Also the twitch chat integration took some serious computer magic haha yea wild
I liked it! Nice memes and references. I’ve played a lot of RPG Maker stuff and I think the pacing here was spot on, and there was way more game than I thought there would be. Loved that Fren was the most powerful party member, just like in the lore. Played all the way to the end and beat Baldio…. what an asshole
[LOOK AT CHAT]
Haha, wild.
