What an absolute banger! This is an almost perfect game! I loved everything: the art and the assets are incredible, the gameplay (including both the "hunting" with the bolas and the "ropes" rhythm game) is very fun and original for a bondage game. The noir/crime them was nailed perfectly and the dialogues and story fits the theme perfectly! It's outstanding to see such a well-made game created in such a short time! I wrote "almost" perfect as the hard difficulty, which didn't allow me to beat the final boss, is mostly caused by an inconsistency in the parrying mini-game with the red ropes and not only by the game design which makes the final fight very annoying (I talked about it in the Discord server). But even with this problem the game is fantastic! Well done! I hope you'll make games like this in the future!

Pretty fun. I kinda liked the hunting part more than the fighting, the latter i think could use some variety in how attacks move (or at least how they look). Gotta love the style of course, red harvest and such. Another my complaint is that you can't tie up the final boss
I can see that its really polished and impressive and all. But Rhythm- Games are my Kryptonite. I couldn't beat the Rhythm Heaven Demo on the 3DS back than and here, I still can't get pass the 2nd Boss.
The game has really immersive vibe, the music and the aesthetic works absolutely amazing. Combat is challenging. I personally like that slow motion everyone hates. It gives the weight and impact to those hits. It took me a bit of time to finish the last fight, i really had to lock in xD I would like to see a bit more variations of losing tho, especially at the end.
Overall "The Smart Dame Always Knots Twice" is really good and it's top tier of this jam for sure. Probably my favourite one
This game is amazing for a single week, a whole dang story???, i love the art, the music fits and was very nice, i liked the rhythm based gameplay but i do agree with the poitns made prior about the red ropes being a bit unfair, in the timeslow hitstop thing the ropes still move and so have a chance to STILL hit you even after the whole animation is being done, but this is still a really good game!
To start off: Presentation is amazing. The theming is great, the art is excellent, the music and sounds choice really pulls the game up, and, in concept, I love the idea of first hunting down someone and then fighting for control. However, the gameplay itself is what I feel detracts from this. The hunting and catching here doesn't have too much depth too it, which I suppose is fine as it doesn't feel like the main focus, but I wish it was more than: set the 3 ropes and throw bolas until they get dragged into them.
For the combat section, I really only have one complaint, and it's that the red "counter" ropes, do not feel fair. If you hit them near the end of the timing window, there is a chance that the sound bit will play indicating you hit it, the fist animation will start to swing to hit it back, the rope slows down to make it dramatic, but because it's still moving it hits you and you fail the segment. I wouldn't mind it if it was a one-off thing, but it happens constantly in the later fights, especially as it gets faster and faster. Most of the game's difficulty I feel comes from this volley segment, and it just doesn't seem to work as intended.
I'm critical of this in part because the game presents itself really well. It's just frustrating when what seems to be one of the main gameplay beats doesn't function in the way its intended to. Still amazing that all of this was put together in so little time.
Thank you!
Personally I love the delayed parry which forces you to be real precise with your timing and get it right at the start of the parry zone, but loud and clear! Apparently everyone except one person universally hates this fact haha.
I've already found an easy fix for this. When judging is over I'll patch the game with a change if anyone decides to visit it after the jam is over.
I think I achieved temporary enlightenment when I beat this. The catching minigame is a tiny bit jank, and the art, while excellent, is very sparse. but on the other hand, I'm a sucker for a good challenge, and this game gave me that, with a help serving of style and mood on the way. Honestly, a gallery and proper ending screens are all I think this game needs to be feature complete. It's not gonna hold your attention past a day or so, but it's a wild ride while it's here!
Really cool game! Definitely one of the best in the jam!
But i do want to echo what the others have said about the timing. After thinking about it i think i figured out what feels off. It's that the brown ropes can be reliably hit as soon as they touch the bar, but the red ones need to be dead center or it won't count. It probably has something to do with the speed increase.
Still i had a lot of fun! Thanks for making the game!
Really cool game overall. I love its moxie. The gameplay is fun if a bit frustrating, and the style and theming is superb. Its use of “control” is effective as well.
But I will heartily echo the sentiment that it’s frustrating when I correctly click when a red rope is in the parry zone, and it ends up not mattering because it was too late. I can’t tell you how many times I did that. I wasn’t able to progress past the third battle, so I may have to really get good and come to try again later.
Thank you so much for the high praise! Yeah, it was definitely designed as a game jam game, nothing more. I imagine I could rework the narrative to add for more evergreen content but for what it is I'm definitely happy where it ended up :)
I do think with more polish there is a really good formula here. I'd be happy to send my code off to anyone to extend as I don't see myself coming back to this anytime soon :P
Incredible style in this game. I'm horrible at rhythm games, so I doubt I'll ever beat the final boss, but you have me hooked with the vibes of it. Your visual and musical choices go a long way.
