I've promised myself I won't say the "T-word" in this review, so here we go...

This is an interesting spin on the falling block puzzle genre, which definitely have a place in the arcade. It takes a potentially more complex premise and distils it into something more refined, and although it borrows core mechanics from elsewhere, the manner in which the player progresses via preset puzzles instead of an endlessly evolving puzzle is actually quite refreshing.

Nice, I got through the entire review without saying Tetris once... Arrrrrrrgh! 😅

Amiga game market is full of Tetris clones but this one has several gameplay options and is very well made.

The final version will hopefully be enjoyable to anyone.

Fantastic tetris-esque game but with a twist. Great presentation , visuals and music. Perhaps the font on the title screen is a little hard on the eyes. Minor issue though, slick arcade style game. Great work!

I got hooked on this for quite some time! Nice twist on a game that I could always lose time with. Great music and presentation. Gfx style a bit noisy for my taste, and made my eyes hurt after a while (but I am overdue an eye test). Will come back for another play though...

Noisy gfx - Blocks? Backgrounds? Mascots?

Backgrounds - with the vibrant colours and small repeating patterns. I felt it pull my focus from the play area. Loved the mascots :) Was sitting maybe to close to a big TV... Very minor critique though ;)

Looks like Tetris but you soon find out you need a different strategy to play. My first play through went really well and I was thinking the arcade owner can't be happy with his earning potential. But my following attempts I don't know what went wrong but I was humiliated pretty quickly. Really nice presentation which fits with early 90s arcade puzzle games of the time. The extra game modes add to the replayability. Great music. A really fun distraction.

A really fun tetris variation with a twist! Alot of small details makes this game feel alive! Colorful and nice graphics with cute avatars! I would have loved a versus mode to be able to challenge a friend in the arcade!

Good and solid game. However nothing extraordinary. There are tons of Tetris variation and this one should be accepted as well but the idea does not bring much new content. However the game is for sure worth your time and offers many options and game modes.

This might seem like another Tetris clone at first, but it gives fresh new air with a twist; using new modes and features. The goal is to focus on clearing the glowing blocks the fastest possible using your existing Tetris knowledge but without playing it as you would a normal Tetris game, as you don't require to clear anything else..  you can also use the new gameplay features as piece "swap" and "hold".

Overall really enjoyed this entry!
Yet I feel I only scratched the surface with this game as I need to rewire my brain to use the new available features for swapping and holding pieces and reaching the glowing blocks quickly.

Key Features:

  • Fun to play game which can become addictive!
  • Reliable and responsive gameplay with adjustable sensitivity and supports several controller methods!
  • Satisfying sound-effects together with a  nice arcade tune which doesn't feel repetitive nor distracting!
  • Automated gameplay demonstration prior starting the game, which is a key element in arcade cabinet games!
  • Colorful graphics with a real arcade feel and animal avatars!
  • The game feels like a complete arcade game!

This development covered fully and accurately the theme of the AmiGameJam (Return of the Arcade)

Thanks for the insight and review! Glad you enjoyed!

And great initiative of having all AmigaGameJAM games in the AmigaLive software/twitch channel!

Glowpoint is an interpretation of the arcade game Flash point for your Amiga, with a touch of puzzle bubble cuteness thrown for good.

This interesting variation of Tetris focus on destroy the glow points present in the stage using tetris dynamic so to proceed to the next level, emphasizing to do this in the shortest time possible. New games modes have been thought as well as more engaging and fair game mechanics. Among these:

  •  Hold mode (Also refered and Hold and Modfiy ;) ) :  You can see the next 3 pieces, and you can lock the 1st next piece for a better time to use it;
  • Swap mode : You can see the next 2 pieces and you can swap them at any time, before entering into play;
  • Classic mode: You can only see the next piece and you can only move/rotate the current piece on the board.

Do bear in mind three things:

- The idea behind the concept is not buiLd pretty walls for multiple line clear. You can, but the primary objective is clearing the glowpoint position lines. Once done that you can go to next stage. Line clear does not award much points (2 per line), while you can get more with soft drops (moving the piece down).

- Do it in the least time possible and increase the score with bonus. Beat the stage time and get additional time bonus.

- Speed level is dynamic - it raises and lowers according your gameplay. Linger around and the speed level will rise, do line clears and it will lower.

- The game attempts to autodetect your input device, press the last button on your joypad / gamepad on startup screen to get better detection. It can be changed in Operator Settings (esc key). Also if you find your button to sensitive, you can change it on the settings.

- This fully supports PAL and NTSC, and it should play better on latter. But both are fun.

A level editor is ready, but it will be made available after the AmigaGameJAM.

Enjoy the game!
