Holy damn this surprised me, it's so good! The whole game is amazingly well polished and the art is great. The fighting feels intuitive and the ability to influence what you can do by flipping the coins is such a cool mechanic. And the cutscenes too, wow. Well done! This is the best one I've played so far.
Play your luck

What an excellent entry for the jam. Super polished an just generally excellently put together - one of my favourites for sure.
Other than the physics on the little coins being really fun and I'm sure there's something great you could do with them, I wasn't really sure why they were coins. Flipping them didn't seem to mean anything other than trying click the other side of them so it was a bit of just shaking the thing until it got to what you wanted without consequence
Great job with all of it, really slick
Wow this was a good play, ended before i knew it, the last boss was easy with my 2x hit rings. At start i was frustrated why does my guy walk away from enemies, but then i discovered the turn around coin xD
Had a really fun time playing this! Seeing a lot of great suggestions in the comments here to improve and make the game even better, so really hoping to play a full version one day :)
Just wow!! I loved that small rogue lite concept. That UI interaction made it so original. Loved it and finished at first try 🥳
The UI is awesome, it's so clean and responsive I love it. The windows work really nicely and the way you can shake the coin one to flip the coins is really fun. The art is also incredible. Great work!
I'm in awe with the fluidness of the animation and the polish of the UI and systems, its abundantly clear every detail has been carefully thought about and implemented resulting in an incredibly engaging experience. Really fun working out the strategy and satisfying seeing the flip and the result, and the fact you can reliably get them to flip to what you want with the right technique is so cool! I want to see this develop so have followed you
woahhh!! this game is AWESOME i really love the gimmick you set up here the game feels super polished, the sounds fit perfectly in the gameplay, and overall pretty fun game! you guys nailed it!
Very fun idea, and a very well polished game! Love the little intro cutscene. And the flipchick is a cutie!Congratulations! My main gripes with the game are in the strategic department. I really like the concept of the game, so I want to give you some proper feedback. Here are my notes:
1. First thing I noticed: I couldn't tell from the sprite what way the flipchick was facing. I thought he was facing right when he was actually facing up. This led to my first actions being turning around twice.
2. Coinflips are an interesting idea. Every coin you add having two sides, or a 50/50 of something you might really want to do, and something that is less optimal is fun design. However, having infinite flips just makes that part of the design obsolete. You can always just get the result you want anyway. Furthermore, it becomes more of a chore to flip the coins. If I have all my options available to me at all times anyway, why do I have to jump through hoops to do the action I want? I think you should have maybe stuck with flipping all coins at one time, then choosing your actions from that.
I like the idea of moving the window to flip the coins, but then you can't guarantee that all coins flip once. So I would have probably cut that feature and added a flip button. In my opinion, I think, in this case, preserving good strategy design is more integral to your game than a fun coin flipping mechanic.
3. Defending is way too strong. In a game where you have 5 hearts, getting an extra life whenever you want is super significant. Compare this to Slay the Spire, where a defend card blocks 5 damage (out of 80 hit points) for often only one turn. It was very easy to beat the game because of it.
4. The one dimensional movement can work really well (like in shogun showdown) but I think you will need to play around with attack ranges more, so I would recommend starting with two attacks for different ranges by default.
That's all I got for now. Hope you keep working on this! Good luck!
An absolutely solid entry! I love the idea that you have to manually flip the board to get the coins you want. I'd love to see this expanded, maybe with a larger, wider grid size too.
Either way, wonderful job!
This game is great! My favorite of the submissions so far.
Some suggested tweaks that would increase this game's potential:
- The coin flipping mechanic could be maximised for satisfaction, so the action itself doesn't become tedious. An autoflip button could also be added as an accessibility feature.
- Currently, damage from perks like Tackle do not seem to stack when you have multiple Tackle perks, while stacking effects like this could be a good source of player dopamine (breaking the game is fun!).
- Strategically picking what move to make should be a little more challenging. Currently, it's often ok to be forced into a non-optimal choice. You could add enemies that deny optimal coin usage, for example.
I can't get over how absolutely expressive and beautiful the animations here. The enemy designs were well made and the chick is adorable. The ending scene honestly gave me goosies, it was pretty awesome! All of this on top of a really creative concept. There was quite a bit of tension when trying to flip the coins just right when surrounded by enemies, which I enjoyed. All in all an excellent submission!
