Loved the art and puzzles. To me everything felt intuitive and smooth which is great for a point and click game. Big Tony was no match for Will Slick.

Developer

First and foremost, fantastic username. It's an honor to be speaking with you.

Thank you so much! Our team worked really hard to get the mechanics of the game as comfortable as possible, so your feedback means a lot! They don't call him Will Slick for nothing. B)

It reminded me of when I used to browse Newgrounds as a kid and finding a cool game to play for the day.

I liked the puzzles! Took me a while to figure.

One detail that I loved was the notes in the wallet. I guess you wrote them by hand and scanned them? Nice.

Great humor in the writing.

Developer(+1)

You are correct! Those were all handwritten notes that were scanned and put in the game as sprites. Not only was it quicker for us to do it that way, but we felt it looked more authentic too! Thanks for playing!

Developer

Aw, thank you so much! That was the atmosphere we were going for; it's nice to hear feedback that it pairs nicely with our goofy endeavors!

Yes, we did hand write and scan the notes (I'm mom!!). I'd like to declare a moment of silence for Rocket's scanner, which is scarred by olive oil from Big Tony's secret recipe.

Submitted(+3)

The most difficult part for me was figuring out how washing my hands worked, after that I could beat on Will Slick no problem! Also, the true contents of the meatball recipe really caught me by surprise

Developer

We wanted a little bit of a challenge in the game, I'm glad we succeeded! We did try our best to drop bread crumb hints. Thanks for not giving up on the heist! The "meatball" recipe was a Big Tony family heirloom passed down for generations. It's existance is a legend highly sought among the pizzeria community.

That last room felt tense. I'll probably hear that snoring in my nightmares. I like the point-and-click adventure feel and the note from mom was a nice touch. Good work!

Developer(+1)

Hey, Big Tony means business! It's actually funny you mention that. By the end of this project we were all joking to one another that the game's soundtrack was stuck in our heads haunting us since we had heard it on loop so many times! It means a lot that you appreciate our smaller details in the game. Thank you so much for playing!

Chef's kiss

Of course I had to pick Will Slick, because this guy is way too slick

I enjoyed it and got the recipe on my second try (the first time I failed because I accidentally turned on the flashlight and didn't know how to turn it off lol)

Great job!

Developer(+1)

I always picked him during my playtesting too, haha. Slick is literally his middle name, after all! Thanks for playing!

Developer(+1)

Just a slick tip, you actually don't have to toggle the flashlight off and on! If you move slowly it will affect your danger bar less. If you stop moving it around completely then your danger bar will slowly decrease! Thank you for taking the time to play and robbing Big Tony blind!!!

I think this was a really fun short game! And the slick incorporation was funny, I think that this was a fun time. Also every mouse click being considered noise is really smart too. Well done!

Developer

Thank you for taking the time to give our game a try!

Developer

Thank you! Initially the slick meter was intented to be a character creator lite, but as we developed more of the mechanics, it became a difficulty meter too! Big shout out to Rocket for the attention to detail on the noise meter!

"Ay Tonyyy, don't you remember me? I'm no thief, I'm your nephew!" :D Liked how the heist-operator was commenting on the action via phone. Nicely done!

Developer(+1)

lol yeah we may have gone a little overboard with the phone, but we thought it would be funny to have someone pester you throughout. Thanks for playing!

Developer

I am glad you enjoyed it! As much as Big Tony's is an escape room heist, it is above all, a silly little time :)

Submitted(+2)

Great game! I loved the UI; having to manually check your phone and wallet really adds to the tension. I also really enjoyed the combination of horror-survival and escape room.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! The inspiration for the concept came from games like Nancy Drew and Five Nights at Freddy's. Glad you enjoyed it!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!!! When we were play testing, we kept losing.. not on purpose. After some time of this we kept joking amongst ourselves that we accidentally made the Dark Souls of escape rooms!

I'm sad that this one doesn't have more ratings! Such a fun idea and the execution is immaculate across the board (i.e. art, music, SFX, user interface design and clarity). I would absolutely love to see this expanded with more puzzles if you guys continue working on it - I used to play a lot of first person puzzle games like this back in the day on CoolMathGames, and I'll always have a soft spot for the genre. The handwashing puzzle was incredibly clever btw, loved that part. Amazing work overall!

Developer(+2)

Thanks for playing and for the kind words! The truth is, we were just having fun with it and thought what we were doing would be truly unique. Unfortunately we didn't have the time to get in as many puzzles as we were hoping, there is A LOT of cut content for this game that we could add. We may just talk about it after the game jam!

Developer(+1)

Aw! I am over the moon that our game got placed into the same category as CoolMathGames! Thank you so much, that was exactly our goal! During our first team meeting, we just ball parked the escape room idea and everyone was on board. We wanted to try something a little different than the classic platformer. Eventually our little jokes became these bigger ideas and Big Tony was born. A lot of efforts were put into player experience, so it is relieving to see that it paid off!

Beat first try no guides needed (yeah, I'm something of a gamer). Very sweet puzzle game! Incredible UI, love the phone and the wallet with little pockets for items! Needing to raise the danger meter just to read the new messages was funny as heck. Really adds to the game!

The amount of art shown in such a small time frame is amazing. Every room felt very unique! Cute music and awesome sound design as well. The only oversight I noticed is that when you win and start over without closing the game your progress does not get reset so you can just win again instantly lol.

Developer(+2)

Aw, thank you for your feedback and kind words!!! I knew I sensed powerful gamer aura somewhere in the comments.

Developer(+2)

Thanks for playing! The atmosphere of the game was a major focus point so I'm glad you noticed that as a strength. I wish we had a little more time to put in another puzzle or two! For pretty much everyone on our team, this was our first ever game finished and first game jam submission. I noticed the win condition restart bug after submission and I have fixed it, but too late to resubmit to the jam, haha.

Developer(+1)

that's cus you already have the meatball recipe, duh!

Thank you though, I put a lot of work in the music and sound design and shared some good background and art space with people! There's actually a decent amount of cut content to expand the rooms that I developed we didn't have time to implement. Lots of really good and fun conversations were had about getting this together it was a blast we really put our heads together on this one. Lots of talks about parmesan mechanics lol. Really appreciate the shoutout!

Developer (1 edit) (+2)

As with any escape room, be sure to read any notes you find for clues! Think of the mouse in this game as your hands.

Guide video for anyone who needs it. Sink puzzle at 3:10

I really like the music in the intro. I might need some guidance, I see that my hands are too slick to open the door, but I can find what I'm meant to interact with before I get caught. I see the tap, but not sure if that's how I clean my hands (it makes me get caught before I can see what I'm meant to do)

The toggle for the flash light being in something that moves when you hover over it also made it difficult to turn it off quickly.

Will play again if you respond :) I need to steal Big Tony's recipe!

Developer(+1)

Responded :) Thanks for playing!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I know one of our other devs replied but just wanted to let you know I created a youtube full gameplay so you can kind of get an idea of how some of the trickier stuff works, and some of the ways you can get caught. Please let us know if you have any other questions! All feedback is really helpful :)

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and taking the time to comment! We'd love to hear what you think once you beat it! (you got this!!!!!!!!!)

Submitted(+1)

ah thanks, I'll be sure to have another go after work :)

Submitted(+1)

Ahah I can't believe I didn't see the slick meter going down while I was playing last night, I blame it on the tiredness of last minute coding getting the submission ready. I watched the guide you had, when I saw the player got caught 3 times in a row I thought "How did they get my game play footage?" XD

Cool game, I love exploring through notes left around
