I went into this blind, and I'm so glad I did, this is such a delightful experience. Amazing game design. The visuals are really appealing; The neo Y2K / frutiger aero aesthetic is perfectly incorporated into the environment, custom models, and UI. Thank you for making this. I would love to see a longer game with more maps and weapons.

Slick To My Stomach did something similar with a very different vibe. https://aurant1um.itch.io/slick-to-my-stomach

I found the platforming sections to be a bit easy, due to how the player's bullets stop enemy bullets. Despite the lack of difficulty, they're also a bit time-consuming on a replay.

Anyway.

I'm speechless. The writing is really good, especially for a game jam. The upgrades are tied into the dialogue masterfully. The music was also phenomenal. This is such a polished and complete experience. Thank you for making this.

As others have mentioned, the game is good, but held back by the control scheme. The parry requires the player to be next to projectiles, but the imprecise mouse based movement makes that difficult, as opposed to the standard arrow keys or WASD. The screen shake is good feedback, but is a little intense and can make it difficult to see. The concept, however, is great and the question posed is answered - this is a slick game.

For your first game jam, this is a wonderful submission! Very creative use of the theme. I highly recommend Masahiro Sakurai's YouTube channel (Director of the Super Smash Bros. series). It has videos covering almost every aspect of game design and development.

Very unique and fleshed-out take on the theme! The vibes are immaculate; the music and presentation are perfect. The glass break during the stage transition is a nice touch. The slow start is also great, it gives the game a very smooth difficulty curve. My only complaint is that the game is not long enough. For a three-day project, this is phenomenal.

Solid typing game, having a rating system is a good use of the theme, but there are more areas where it could have been implemented. As a side note, rating systems are more engaging when they are visible during gameplay. Having the letter rank visibly update as the player types would make the game more exciting. Another interpretation of "slick" is minimal downtime. The theme could have been incorporated in the overworld with a fast, slick movement system. The typing system itself is perfectly implemented; being able to immediately write the next word and to write them in any order, is very slick. I had fun!

Perfect use of the theme, the music, aesthetics, and controls perfectly fit. The likelihood of crashing really sells the idea of speed, but how it's implemented slows the game down. Upon crashing, the momentum and fun stops. Although the pause is brief, it does affect the game's longevity. Having a life system and/or instant restart button would incentivize the player to play for longer. Overall, great game!

The intro was phenomenal. From the cover art to the opening, the visuals are unique and intriguing. It's very rare to see live-action footage in a jam game, and it hooked me. Though I really enjoyed the game, I cannot help but feel that the game itself could do more to match the style of the cover art and intro, which is very striking and attention-grabbing.

I really liked the gesture controls, they add so much depth to the simple act of shooting and reloading. I also think that making the game an on-rails shooter was a great choice, it really lets the unique mechanics shine. My only issue with the game as others have noted, is the difficulty. In particular, the dust, while great for atmosphere, makes enemies difficult to see, and almost invisible when directly in front, where the dust effect is stacked. This could have been remedied by drawing the enemies as silhouettes on a higher layer when the dust gets thick.

Overall, great gaem!

Great art, animation, and music! Unfortunately, I felt that the movement was too difficult; I typically don't like ice levels because of the control they take from the player, and this game pushes that concept further. I did however, really like the music of the second level, and how it used the theme of "slick."

This game does a phenomenal job with the metaphorical interpretation of "slick." The music and presentation are really engaging, but I feel that the more literal interpretation of the theme holds this game back. When bouncing around, the weapon recoil is not enough to be able to change direction. The meaning of slick that the music and visuals evoke - trickshots, cool maneuvers, and flow state, requires the player to be in control. I also feel like the game should go on longer to better allow players to enjoy their overpowered builds. Overall, great game!

This game features so many slick design choices. The hitstop feels incredible and the reload mechanic (only needing to reload when you miss) is genius. Just alternating between firing and throwing for faster kills is super satisfying.

Great game! I loved the UI; having to manually check your phone and wallet really adds to the tension. I also really enjoyed the combination of horror-survival and escape room.

I had a lot of fun with this one! I really liked the visuals - the low resolution, dark lighting, and photoshopped enemies made this a tense experience. In particular, I think the ammo distribution is incredibly well-balanced and effectively rewards players for not missing their shots.

I normally don't like difficult games, but there's something to be said for the truly Sisyphean. This is my favorite game so far, and I will continue to play it after the jam.

I wish I could give this 6 stars for theme. Great art, great music, amazing UI, and really good game design too - I like that held items are simultaneously a speed boost, a double jump, and a weapon. Also you can literally ball in this game.

Amazing art and immaculate vibes. The boss's design felt straight out of an SNES or Genesis game, as did the "Jet, Outrage!" voiceclip. Would have been a smoother experience with a game over and reset, but I still had a lot of fun. I really liked the movement; the combo of dash -> coyote jump -> dash -> twirl is really fun to pull off.

Great art and atmosphere; beautiful game. Although it could use more feedback when the boss performs an attack, and the attack system takes some getting used to, the game is incredibly fun. I especially love the feedback when landing a hit, it made landing multihit attacks really slick.

Very unique take on the theme and a very unique arcade shooter. The small window for bonus points when drivers are taking a photo is great game design, and the fire effect is really good feedback. Great game!
