Good game loop, felt like learning marketing in a comfy manner, ahah!

Developer(+1)

Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed it! It’s kinda funny how both this game and the game before it are just greedy capitalist simulators with a cover on top (this is he sequel to hot coco loco btw but both games stand on their own)

I thought I recognized the hat and the robot from your other submission in this jam! Sorry you had to abandon that one. The voice acting was really funny in this one, I think more people should include voice acting in their games! The robotic voice at the post office caught me off guard, was that the voice of the main character?

I was not able to wake up the frog in my run. Great job on your submission, keep the up development journey!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I hardcoded it so the frog always stays asleep I thought it would make the perfect punchline to finish the game

10/10 game I LOVED IT, I want a longer version, P L E A S E. I loved the voiceovers!! Aaaaa! Big fan.

Developer

YESSS SOMONE WHO LOVES IT! BTW, did you play multiple times to choose different products because each product has 12 unique lines that includes your options and the corporate praise after delivering the mail.

Submitted(+1)

Oh!! I didn't think about trying, I'll play it again today! But honestly the voice lines I loved the most were the ones you guys actually did, the text to speech ones were ok, but you guys gave the characters so much personality and hearing your voices dubbing them, even if not in a perfectly crisp professional-voice-actor style, was really wholesome and made me yearn to read the next letter!

Developer

Im glad to hear you enjoyed them! Canonically I got away with the TTS because you (The robot) Is making the AD and low quality tts is just more comfortable/ cozy because it doesn’t remind the player of the eerie scariness of the real world where I could make VERY realistic TTS with AI.

It was also very practical to use TTS because all the lines in game that are voiced by TTS (The Ads and corporate praise) add up to 120 Lines of TTS, which as you can guess, Is a lot of work for a game jam game and I couldn’t do. In fact I had to make a python script that goes through every line in my game, automatically generates the TTS for it and automatically adds it in game. Just because of the sheer amount of content

Submitted(+1)

Oof that sounds like a lot of work! But don't worry! Personally I got your intention while playing the game, each character felt like their own and alive, while the TTS lines felt robotic and kind of emotionless - which to me it really fits with the idea of ads! There's truly no need for AI generated stuff when creativity exists 🙏

Developer(+1)

On the contrary, I used AI to write the Python script so boom conflicting information, But yeah all the mesaages and my fire writing-written by me!

I really love the way it turned out.

Oh if you love the characters then you should play Hot Coco Loco! Its about 15 minutes long and Sale Mail is a direct sequel to Hot Coco Loco.

The limitation for that jam included Intro and dialogue that the player can’t understand. It’s stands in strong contrast to Sale Mail but I think you’ll enjoy it none the less! I made an animation engine so I can individually animate every character with my mouse cursor so in that aspect they feel more alive.

Its actually really cool comparing hot coco loco and sale mail. Everything from voice acting, writing and even visuals are handled differently or upgraded.

Also join my discord if you wanna chat some more there! I’d love to! I made it as just a small community where I upload my progress during game jams and next year when I hopefully release my first game I could show it to my game jams friends for feedback, playtesting and I guess publicity.

BTW THE VOICE ACTING WAS SO MUCH FUN!

Submitted

Very fun! I like all the rhyming and the funny names for the characters, the concept and mechanic was really original too. The tutorial at the beginning was nicely done, and the transition was neat. It would be nice to be able to recall the hat though, it got stuck on tree branches a couple of times and I had to restart the game to get it back, and it could have used some more sound effects as well, but overall, it was fun to play and made me chuckle!

Developer

you can right click to recall the hat! it even says so in the tutorial! 😭

Submitted

Oh shoot! My bad lol!

Submitted

Super fun concept! I love the throwing of the hat for the higher jump. I just really miss some music here and sounds for the little robot. But still a really fun game!

Developer

If I had one more day that’s all I’d spend my time on, adding sounds everywhere.

Holy bananas this game is complicated …but very fun! All the dialogue was fun to listen to and read. Great job!

Developer

Thanks! The game is a little bit confusing I admit maybe 1 or 8 unexplained things but I hope you enjoyed it nevertheless!

If you could be so kind, can you please tell me what was confusing/overwhelming? I want to fix everything I can and learn whatever I can so your feedback would be AMAZING. Thanks either way!

Sure, I should have been more specific. When I say it’s complicated I mainly am talking about the letter scoring system. There are so many small numbers on the screen that it’s overwhelming to look at it all. My thought was “I’ll never understand all this math well enough to get the maximum score.” I didn’t understand how different options led to different results, even though all the information was right there in front of me. So I mainly just chose options randomly. And that was fun in its own way, but I didn’t pay much attention to it.

But, the actual main game loop of picking up letters and delivering them is quite simple and the to-do list was very helpful. The main game loop I thought was very managable and well-designed.

Developer

Ah okay, Yeah my letter scoring system does look a lot more complicated than it actually is. Getting different scores actually changes nothing (Except in rare cases where it changes the corporate praise you get)

I didn’t really know how to make scoring have strategy, so my strategy was random bs go!

I’m gonna try to have a little more intent and actual tradeoffs/gameplay next time.

Very funny game! The main character's controls are satisfying, the ad mini game is innovative and fun! And the game is made with good humor :)

Developer(+1)

tysm! I had a lot of fun writing and voice acting! T bet you could tell. My favorite one is the letter to mister fox chadly bradly

Man the names were real good too

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Oh also lore drop: This game is a direct sequel to Hot Coco Loco (my submission for comfy jam autumn) In which the snail, scooter snail got his name because when my siblings playtested the game and he loses his shell they said he looked like a scooter so I called him that. Therefore, he was the first one to ever get a name!

Also I made a mistake when naming the dog (the yellow one) I called him dog fromda pound, I initially wanted to call him hound fromda pound because of the internal rhyming but I was so sleep deprived while adding him in game that I named him Dog Fromda Pound. IDK if he’s canonically called Dog fromda Pound but I thought it be a funny story to share.

Hahaha I love that, it makes everything much better

The characters and world are wonderful! The hat mechanic was cool but I wish it was explored a bit more.

Developer

So for the first half of the game jam I was making a precision platformer but I quit making it half way through because it was too large scope and not really that cozy. I decided to still make and finish the entire bare minimum game so you could still play it. The Hat mechanic gets explored to it’s fullest there. The game is called the winter robot
