day 4 of commenting until the update arrives!!!

good news... my tests end this week!!! so ill only have to worry abt the pbls now lolz!! as for my step 2 mykae...

so i haven't made her official step 2 art yet so just have this old art for now... might make some changes when it finally happens. I also changed her name to Mykae (variation of mayke) since Maria was weirdly english for someone with an Indonesian mom, her last name is still Hayes tho.

Anyways, my question for today is... what do/es your mc(s) think of opal and moving to golden grove?

Mykae was fond of her mother in step one cause she was the only constant thing in her life. However, as she got older she resented her more and more (though still loved her... most of the time)

As for moving in, Mykae always hated it. This didnt change with golden grove. It grew on her with step 2 though, when she realized shes probably gonna be here forever until she becomes an adult.

Izzy think that Opal is great! She also thinks that Opal is very patient in dealing with all of her mischief eventhough it probably causes her tons of headache lol.

At first, Izzy don't really have much of an opinion about the move. After all, She doesn't know much about Golden Grove at the time. But that changed until she actually arrived there. The place was better than what she imagined and the people were friendly. She fell absolutely in love with Golden Grove!

(+1)

I wonder if Izzy is more of a neighborhood type like Qiu or the woods like Tamarack? :00 Or perhaps both?

(+1)

She's more of a neighbourhood type like Qiu! The woods did not appeal much to her due to all the bugs and insects that she could come in contact with if she goes there.

mykae is such a cool name 🙏🙏 yumari is now #yukae (or myming?? idk 🤷🏽‍♂️)

anyway!!! kojo wasn’t too fond of moving to golden grove at first 😒 he didn’t like the cold mountains in comparison to the warmth of the melbourne beaches, and definitely had to adjust to having a colder christmas and such. he eventually adjusts though, and grows to love the town! (for, like, two years lmao.)

in step 2, he hates golden grove with a passion, and the only reason why he hasn’t decided to just pack his things and leave is because of the goat, tamarack 🙏🙏

in regards to his mother; kojo and opal r THE mother-child duo ever in step 1, though kojo CAN be a bit of a brat. in step 2 theyre doing 🫤🫤🫤 kojo’s getting into fights and stays out a lot at night, which opal doesn’t like. but opal works a lot and is never home, which kojo doesn’t like.

for yu-ming; she has no problem moving from china (i have yet to decide where she lived before) to golden grove! she loves learning new things and is obsessed with the environment and bugs in the town!

in step 2 this attitude doesn’t change, especially since she now has a wonderful girlfriend 🤫🤫

yu-ming and opal are, and will always stay, close. sometimes they disagree on things but it is nothing major. they love each other dearly and have a habit of baking together.

noel absolutely loves opal. theyre really grateful to have her as their ma, having to take care of them by her own is not an easy job and noel knows it.

as for moving into golden grove, noel was thrilled. she found it exciting to finally move out of that shabby apartment and finally feel the full neighborhood experience. upon arriving, best to say her expectations were met. the only thing she was worried about was how the people would view her but the friendly neighbors freed her from her worries

In childhood, Timothy felt like him and Opal are the best team around since they helped each other’s’ chores, dealt with troubles they both face, and compromised their agendas. Deep down, Timothy thinks his mum is the only family he has (even if Opal has relatives) and always sees his mum doing her best to care for him. All Timothy ever wanted is not to worry his mum too much, so he does his best to avoid that.

Moving to Golden Grove is already his third time moving somewhere else. He believed as long as his mother is still around, Opal can still be his lighthouse in the dark. The real home where he can always return to. Golden Grove already looks fantastic and beautiful on its own by entirely lack of seashores to warm forests, cozy old town, and new kids to play with (again!)

So, even if life changed drastically for a third time, he should get used to it by now…right? 👀

Also, may I know how do you pronounce Mykae? Thank you ^^

(+1)

It pronounced m-ay-ka so about the same as mayke except the last part ^^ but a lot of people mispronounced it for some reason when she came to golden grove so she goes by mickey in step 2

Dot loves Opal very much. She'll try helping her as much as she can in step 1, but in step 2 things are a little bit more distant- Dot still loves her Ma, but she isn't so eager to help as she once was, only directly helping her out when asked. She was nervous but also excited for the move (fun fact: I also moved to a new area before 5th grade), she didn't like leaving her friends behind and the place that she knew, but she was also excited to see a new place. Dot settled down and found it to be a boring comfort.

Shù clings onto Opal, and they love her dearly. Opal is also a great person to hide behind whenever they're too overwhelmed. For moving, they were nervous since it's a new country and he was afraid of not making any friends because he doesn't speak, later on they like it due to familiarity.

Cran respects Opal and has some affection towards her, but that's as far as it goes. He doesn’t really go out of his way to bond with her and lets her drag him around when running errands. He didn't like moving because he was just starting to make friends, but he doesn't care about moving enough to say he hates it. Later, Golden Grove, especially in the town, is his favorite thing, I think he has a spot where he likes to hang out the most.

Fran thinks Opal is no fun, they doesn't hate her, it's just that it gets boring for them. They do have moments where they bond, but it's not really enough to have Fran be overly attached. Moving was a relief to Fran, they were popular, but an incident with some kids made them hate the place they were at. Golden Grove, in step 2, is their favorite place to 'terrorize' the people, but their terrorizing is mostly teasing the little kids and buying them sweets later, and playing harmless pranks on the elderly people.

Ari had a fine relationship with Opal, but after the move they resented her. Taking that, you can guess on how he felt on moving, he lived near the ocean- or at least a big body of water- and where he lived was a lot warmer and in a different country, so he didn't like the stark difference. He still doesn't like Golden Grove when he grew up.

Hee-Jin absolutely adores Opal and hates the fact that the only resemblance she has to her is both their eye colors are somewhat shades of red- and even that's a stretch for her. She didn't like moving because she wanted to stay with her friends, but it was something she couldn't avoid.

Phya feels affection towards Opal and worries about her taking care of a child as a single mother. He knows she's capable, but it does it's best to not cause a lot of trouble to pile on her plate. Moving  to Golden Grove was actually real fun for Phya, he'd always liked the fall, so moving into a fall town made it really giddy.

Sahil was really fond of his mom during step 1 and did whatever she told him without complaint since he was still under the impression parents know best. But through the years leading to step 2, his relationship has  gotten a bit more strained at times. He still loves her but she treats him a bit too much like a kid who doesn't know anything. He's started to realize that parents can be wrong about things and that sometimes he might actually know better than his mom. He still tries his best to help her out but can get irritated when she insists on doing things the way he "knows" is wrong.

As for moving to Golden Grove, initially Sahil was a bit apathetic about it, not really caring where he was, at least it would actually snow here. But as he met and spent time  with his neighbors he was kind of glad he moved and met people he got along with. Around start of Step 2 he thought it was a pretty nice place, but a bit boring at times since the novelty wore off.

At first, KK was SO pissed about moving, and directed a lot of that anger at Opal. He stopped being so mad at about that, though he always feels distant from his mom. That might change going forward but we'll see!

(+2)

So, since the vast majority love Opal, I'm going to drop a bombshell in the form of my one MC named Grant. He's still too young (selfish, stubborn) to look at the situation from a different angle. For him, it's a tragedy to move to Golden Grove, because that's where he had his first love and friends. He liked his old place because he was born there. He is deeply hurt by Opal because he believes that she didn't even care about his feelings. She took him with her like a convenient toy and left him in the care of strangers because, in his opinion, only her work is important to her, not her son. He doesn't understand why she gave birth to him, why everyone else has a father or mother, but he is alone. In fact, he is a lonely child, and he has a secret dream - to meet his former friends, whom he will not see anytime soon, and it is not certain that they will recognise him.

(+1)

He cannot forgive or understand even in the second step, so the dynamics between them are as follows: step 1 - Grant is aggressive, step 2 - complete avoidance.

Atlas is usually very cold and skeptical towards his mom and her antics, but when it comes to being sad she's the only one who can comfort him ! He's a very standoffish and serious kid, who only knows humor through sarcasm so that probably explains a lot... As he grows up though he sees his mom more as a friend than someone just there to make him lunch and comfort him !
