finally decided to make an intro for my son 🙏

meet jamari (formerly kojo/osei if any1 remembers.) he’s trans!! he came out the day before high school started so he’s still friends with vianca (theyre nwlnw & nmlnm solidarity trust) 🙏🙏 hes also bffs with tammy + serenity (he LOVES serenity bro that’s his little sister fr) and like… technically his status with qiu is neighbours, but also they have a crush on each other 😛😛😛 (game wise i played the crushes route bcs i like to think that jamari is all like ‘i hate you i dont like you (loud incorrect buzzer) leave me alone’ and qiu’s just a bold, jealous but lowk pathetic puppy that wants that cookie i fear)

he’s also a bit megumi fushiguro coded as in he keeps to himself most of the time, not very social, gets into fights a lot, has a love/hate relationship with his mom, and is also very much autistic.

uhhh furthermore he’s also a ‘canon divergence’ mc (he has an older brother who’s dating baxter (hence why he’s still on good terms with baxter) and a stepdad + two stepbrothers who are twins) yeah idk what more to say… he’s like 6’1.5 in step 2 and quite muscular bcs he’s on the school’s volleyball team, track & field (maybe i forgot) and does boxing outside of school! he can also play the electric guitar.

gonna talk abt step 2 cause icl idgaf abt step 1 school situation thats a bunch of ten y/os who gaf 😹✌️in step 2 osei is bullied (cause he’s autistic AND has beef w qiu and yk how high schoolers r when ur neurodivergent and do not like the most popular kid in the school chat 🫩🫩😪) but also kind of ‘feared’ (not in an edgy way, more in a ‘this-guy-can-and-WILL-beat-my-ass ‘way) because he gets into fights a lot both off and on school grounds. he’s also tall as hell for a fourteen-year-old so yeah. but he hates everyone too lso it cancels out.

yu-ming is a sweetheart and the president of the stuco at riverview peak!! she’s also the harp player for the school band, and she’s loved by most if not everybody and loves them all back just as much 💗💗 this does not mean she’s spineless or ditzy though, and will very much be blunt with you if needed.

okay so… uhhh osei wanted to be a lot of things as a kid, but due to his obsession with pjo i think he may have wanted to become an architect like annabeth. as an adult he has become a cardiovascular surgeon, though i am still a bit unsure about this and might make him a rockstar in a band, a writer, actor, or a teacher/professor of some sort.

yuming wanted to become an entomologist or environmental researcher as a kid, she grew up to become the former!

osei has an older brother named aaron. he’s the same age as baxter, so he’s not really prominent in his life, especially since he leaves to study law all the way over on the east coast at harvard. he also has a little sister on his father’s side named hyun-yae (osei’s character is very much not canon compliant to the olnf story) who eventually realises they’re non binary and go by they/them.

i remember osei being related to user sambaeksam’s mc yujin (or yunjin i dont remember 🫩) since they had the same last name, but since i changed that i suppose they’re distant cousins now? osei’s dad’s last name is still kim, but idk.

as for relatives like cousins and such— osei has a few cousins from his dad’s side, and a grandmother + two aunts. on his mother’s side he has four aunties and an uncle, and quite some cousins.

yu-ming is more canon compliant and is an only child, but does have some cousins back in china. she has two uncles and four cousins.

Also for your question! osei preferred the forest in step 1, as the town was a bit too overwhelming, still. eventually, he grew fond of the town, especially the library and record store. in step 2 he doesn't really have a preference, considering he hates golden grove. i would like to say he prefers his room in step 2.

yu-ming loves the forest (duh) because of the bugs, and because tamarack likes it. this doesn't change in step 2, but she does grow fond of the bakery in town.

mykae is such a cool name 🙏🙏 yumari is now #yukae (or myming?? idk 🤷🏽‍♂️)

anyway!!! kojo wasn’t too fond of moving to golden grove at first 😒 he didn’t like the cold mountains in comparison to the warmth of the melbourne beaches, and definitely had to adjust to having a colder christmas and such. he eventually adjusts though, and grows to love the town! (for, like, two years lmao.)

in step 2, he hates golden grove with a passion, and the only reason why he hasn’t decided to just pack his things and leave is because of the goat, tamarack 🙏🙏

in regards to his mother; kojo and opal r THE mother-child duo ever in step 1, though kojo CAN be a bit of a brat. in step 2 theyre doing 🫤🫤🫤 kojo’s getting into fights and stays out a lot at night, which opal doesn’t like. but opal works a lot and is never home, which kojo doesn’t like.

for yu-ming; she has no problem moving from china (i have yet to decide where she lived before) to golden grove! she loves learning new things and is obsessed with the environment and bugs in the town!

in step 2 this attitude doesn’t change, especially since she now has a wonderful girlfriend 🤫🤫

yu-ming and opal are, and will always stay, close. sometimes they disagree on things but it is nothing major. they love each other dearly and have a habit of baking together.

TINKATON FANS UNITE🙏🙏‼️‼️‼️ unfortunately, no, he only does human medical studies. i mean, i guess technically he knows a bit about pokemon medical shit bcs of his interests in researching and studying pokemon, and did consider maybe becoming a pokemon doctor/surgeon, but as he grew older he came to have a soft spot for children and an interest in the human heart, which led him to persue becoming a human doctor/surgeon. (he operates on all kinds of people, but prefers to help children/teens.)

in my olnf!pokeverse however, tamarack did persue pokemon medical studies as a part of her job as a pokemon researcher!! so sometimes she teaches kojo a few things 😸❤️

ANYWAYSSS 🤔🤔🤔 YAP TIME cause i love pokemon #HellYeah

unlike most, when kojo started battling at age 10, he had two pokemon/starters instead of one; a trigger-happy gible named lucifer, and a rather shy litwick named lilith. this is because kojo moved from melbourne, australia to golden grove, oregon, and already had a partner from back home. however, while adjusting, he grew curious of golden grove’s pokemon, and when wandering the woods one evening, he stumbled upon a litwick, fell in love with ir, and caught it.

at age fourteen kojo’s team had grown from two, to five pokemon— gabite, a shiny frogadier, lucario, midnight form lycanroc, and a tinkatuff. his litwick— now evolved into a lampent (he grinded the hell to get there vro)— has seemed to have been ‘benched’, but in reality it is kojo’s most trusted partner (alongside gabite) and used for his nightly routine of pokemon hunting rather than fighting. around age sixteen, on a trip to hawaii, kojo wandered off to go study and hunt wild pokemon in the area, and after getting lost 😞 stumbled upon a type: null. he tried to study it, but accidentally triggered it into a fight, and somehow (main character plot armour; he just so happened to catch a passimian a few nights before) managed to catch it.

at age eighteen kojo’s team now consists of a garchomp, shiny greninja, lucario, midnight form lycanroc, a tinkaton, and silvally. this, however, is not his ‘main’ team, they are actually more active when he’s researching, as they are rather large and scary pokemon and therefore scare off distractions (wild pokemon) when he’s busy doing his job. when kojo fights, he switches pokemon every few fights, never really sticking to a pokemon other than garchomp. this doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about his pokemon, in fact, he is kind of hesitant to use certain pokemon, he’s just strategic and likes confusing other trainers— especially his lover and one of the two champions, qiu. other than fighting, kojo’s hobbies are studying and researching pokemon and their environments.

uhh in step 4 kojo just finished med school and starts his residency to become a cardiovascular surgeon but he still enjoys studying pokemon he just doesn’t have the time for it (sorry chat i’m too lazy and dont have his step 4 personality figured out yet okay bye)

LONG ASS RANT INCOMING ‼️‼️

pokemon our life au… imagine them with the z-a royale battle system rather than battling in gyms… 🤔🤔🤔

honestly i think for the olnf gang, qiu would be a very fluid kind of trainer with multiple types rather than focusing on a single one. if i had to give them a starter pokemon, i’d choose froakie, as it is described as both strong and light + being able to jump incredibly high (like a ballet dancer) as well as looking absentminded, but actually being very observant. (not to mention it eventually evolves into a greninja, which is also a quite popular pokemon.) and if not a froakie, it’d probably be a charmander— not only is it one of the most popular pokemon (if not THEE most popular), it is also a pokemon many kids would love to have, and considering qiu’s popular persona throughout the entirety of olnf, it’s only be fitting.

for tamarack, i’d say she, too, is a bit of a mix of everything, but drawn to fairy, bug and grass types. so for her starter, I’d choose a rowlet— more specifically, a rowlet from hisui/sinnoh since i think hisuian decidueye matches her colour scheme. rowlet is a sneaky and silent pokemon, being described as being able to fly through the sky without any noise and not be noticed by its opponents. this would be perfect for the first time we meet her, where she sneaks up on you mc by hiding in a pile of leaves.

now, for darren/renee, i’d choose a grookey as her starter. i do not have any reason for this other than the fact that when i looked at the national pokedex it just screamed renee. i think both her and tamarack having a grass type starter could add to the ‘beef’ they have during step 1. also, to add, since she’s older, i imagine her second pokemon might be a yamper or applin, simply ‘cause renee seems like a dog person, and again, for applin i have no reason other than that it reminded me of her.

okay so technically baxter is a more prominent character in olba, but i wanted to add him anyway since we do meet him in step 1/step 2(?). his starter was a galarian zigzagoon (cause black & white), that has already evolved into a linoone once you meet him. this is because his music taste is canonically hard rock, punk, and screamo, and I think zigzagoon and it’s evolutions reflect that style even if baxter himself doesn’t really seem like he listens to it. additionally baxter has a pancham (set to evolve soon) and a furfrou. (which was his ACTUAL starter pokemon he got from his parents, but switched out for a self-caught galarian zigzagoon.)

now, i know we meet vianca and serenity in step 2, but idgaf theyre my goats so i’ll just imagine their step 1 starters ✌️✌️ so to start with vianca, in step 2, she’s described as ‘intense but lovely’, and I like to think she’s the same in step 1, so for that, the starter i give her is fennekin; a pokemon described as temperamental, but trying to do its best for its trainer. also vianca wants to be friends with tammy in step 2 but tam’s intimidated by her… just like how grass is weak to fire… which could feed into my tamvia agenda… hop on the tamvia hopeless girlkissers train chat 😼✌️  for the types she likes, i would say fire, fighting, and ground/rock(?) maybe normal type, too.

and lastly… the goat; serenity ‼️‼️ there’s not much known about serenity on the our life wiki, but despite that, litwick just screams serenity to me. and if not litwick, maybe gible or phantump. i think serenity is most definitely a ghost/dark type, with the addition of perhaps psychic, poison, and/or dragon(?) honestly, they might just be a qiu type of situation.

okay so im stopping this rant here (even though i wanted to go to further steps w this) cause ts is getting long as hell 😭✌️ also i do not have powerscaling/strong pokemon team in mind when i do this!! these pokemon r purely based on the aesthetics and vibes they give me regarding the character im pairing them with. if there are any spelling mistakes ignore it brah ✌️

kojo didn’t do the graffiti. it’s supposed to be more of a symbolic depiction of kojo and qiu’s relationship during step 2. kojo tries to avoid qiu the best he can cause he hates them, yet qiu’s always somewhat ‘looming’ over him in a sense that they’re ‘everywhere’ no matter how much kojo tries.

which is partially because qiu is quite literally his neighbour, but also because qiu still has feelings for and tries to seek out to him. (kojo also still has feelings for them btw, he just ignores them.)

i have another version where next to kojo on the sidewalk, it says ‘the less i know the better.’ this is a reference to the song with that song exact title by tame impala, which kind of explains the dynamic between those two.
