Dot loves Opal very much. She'll try helping her as much as she can in step 1, but in step 2 things are a little bit more distant- Dot still loves her Ma, but she isn't so eager to help as she once was, only directly helping her out when asked. She was nervous but also excited for the move (fun fact: I also moved to a new area before 5th grade), she didn't like leaving her friends behind and the place that she knew, but she was also excited to see a new place. Dot settled down and found it to be a boring comfort.
Shù clings onto Opal, and they love her dearly. Opal is also a great person to hide behind whenever they're too overwhelmed. For moving, they were nervous since it's a new country and he was afraid of not making any friends because he doesn't speak, later on they like it due to familiarity.
Cran respects Opal and has some affection towards her, but that's as far as it goes. He doesn’t really go out of his way to bond with her and lets her drag him around when running errands. He didn't like moving because he was just starting to make friends, but he doesn't care about moving enough to say he hates it. Later, Golden Grove, especially in the town, is his favorite thing, I think he has a spot where he likes to hang out the most.
Fran thinks Opal is no fun, they doesn't hate her, it's just that it gets boring for them. They do have moments where they bond, but it's not really enough to have Fran be overly attached. Moving was a relief to Fran, they were popular, but an incident with some kids made them hate the place they were at. Golden Grove, in step 2, is their favorite place to 'terrorize' the people, but their terrorizing is mostly teasing the little kids and buying them sweets later, and playing harmless pranks on the elderly people.
Ari had a fine relationship with Opal, but after the move they resented her. Taking that, you can guess on how he felt on moving, he lived near the ocean- or at least a big body of water- and where he lived was a lot warmer and in a different country, so he didn't like the stark difference. He still doesn't like Golden Grove when he grew up.
Hee-Jin absolutely adores Opal and hates the fact that the only resemblance she has to her is both their eye colors are somewhat shades of red- and even that's a stretch for her. She didn't like moving because she wanted to stay with her friends, but it was something she couldn't avoid.
Phya feels affection towards Opal and worries about her taking care of a child as a single mother. He knows she's capable, but it does it's best to not cause a lot of trouble to pile on her plate. Moving to Golden Grove was actually real fun for Phya, he'd always liked the fall, so moving into a fall town made it really giddy.
