Just curious what anime character is that on the computer screen at the start? Looks like  Suzuha Amane to me  which is why I'm curious

Developer(+1)

Haha, it's an extremely pixelated Qingque from Honkai Star Rail. Think it's just a picture of her idle pose in game, similar to

but super compressed.

Cute little exploration game! Enjoyed the fun writing.  I really loved looking around each environment and perusing the meme hall of fame in the studio.  And I love my new best friend, Ducksworth, who totally did not threaten me in any way :)

Developer(+1)

Glad you enjoyed! Ducksworth would definitely never do anything threatening.

Really fun game with a cool concept! I like how the 3 channels were foreshadowed at the beginning before the game drops you into the TV world. The Vinesauce references and the humor on the third channel were also really well done and very funny. Awesome job!

As an aside, I played on the current web build and had no major problems, so I think any memory issues have been fixed, at least on my end.

Developer

Thanks for checking out our game! I appreciate you letting us know that the web build is working well on your end. It's nice to have a bit of a sanity check lol

Hey! I tried playing your game for ShroomJam and really liked the premise from the page — getting pulled into different TV worlds with a rubber duck companion sounds super fun, and the screenshots look very atmospheric.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t really get to the proper gameplay because of a technical issue with the web build. On my side the WebGL version starts eating a huge amount of memory: in Firefox (and when I tried Chrome as well) the tab quickly grows to around 4–6 GB of RAM and keeps increasing, until the browser reports that the page is slowing it down and suggests closing it. My PC is usually fine for jam games (8 GB RAM + ~20 GB swap file on an NVMe SSD), so I think something specific is going wrong with this WebGL build.

Just wanted to flag this in case it helps with post-jam fixes. I’d love to come back later and try the desktop build or an updated web version, because the idea and presentation here look really cool. Great work on the jam either way!

Hi - thanks for the feedback! Apologies for the build not working out - this was our first time working web build stuff so we're still figuring it out as we go. I'm unable to re-create memory runaway issues on Firefox or Chrome, but the game is using Unity's experimental WebGPU backend, so it's possible that vendor specifics might be contributing to some of the issues.

We just updated the web build to strip down some lightmaps, should be around ~30% smaller now; if issues still persist, we might try adjusting some render features and moving to a standard WebGL build. Thanks again for giving it a look!

UPDATE: Was able to re-create what you were seeing by forcing usage of the WebGL API, which Unity would fall back to if WebGPU was disabled. Going to spend some time debugging this and see if we can get a fixed build up. Thank you!

Developer(+1)

Circling back around on this - I believe I've fixed the root cause of the WebGL issue, so the new build should hopefully not crash your browser tab. Unfortunately, the fallback build has a few very minor rendering quirks that I wasn't able to pinpoint; namely the duck in the first level might look a bit... corrupted, hah. We'll call it foreshadowing. :)

Thank you again for pointing out the issue!

Hi! I played your game and wanted to share some feedback.

Pros:

  1. The idea of getting pulled into the TV is really cool and felt genuinely fresh. It immediately grabbed my attention.
  2. I really liked the low-poly style. The visuals and locations have a nice charm to them and feel pleasant to explore.
  3. The funny cutscenes were a nice surprise and added a lot of personality to the game.
  4. I enjoyed spotting little references here and there, it shows you had fun making the game.

Cons:

  1. The web version ran pretty slowly for me, sometimes dropping to around 5 FPS, so it was a bit hard to play smoothly.
  2. Some areas felt a little too dark, so I sometimes struggled to see what was around me.

Conclusion:

Overall, the game turned out really interesting and atmospheric. Even with the technical issues, I had a genuinely good time playing it. Nice work, and thank you for making this!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Appreciate the feedback -- we're looking at a few ways to optimize the web build ATM. Specifically around lighting and light map size which would hopefully address some of the performance issues on the web build.

Hey! Just finished playing your game. Is it possible you can replace the painting "Saturn Devouring His Son" and these two pictures? Our concern is that the painting is gore, and then these two people are randos and we can't have high resolution pictures of random faces like that. The well known people like Jerma, Ster, and Ringo are ok. Thanks!

Developer(+1)

Sure thing, we can replace these images -- no problem! Will work on a build with the images replaced.

Jam Judge(+1)

Thank you!

Developer(+1)

Both web and desktop builds have been updated. Replaced with some CC duck images I found on unsplash lol. LMK if you have time to check out the the updated build or I can send you some screenshots.

Jam Judge(+1)

The only pictures that were an issue were in the 1st room, right? I'm not missing anything hidden? Because yeah, you're fine! I just checked it out and we're looking good. Thanks for respecting our time as judges and offering us the screenshots, though! :D

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Nothing hidden! The images that were changed were also slightly visible in the scaled up versions of the living room for the other scenes, so those have also been replaced. The only other image that was used was of my dog (sitting on the computer desk in the living room).

And you're welcome, LMK if there's any other changes and we can get those fixed up if needed!

Jam Judge(+1)

Will do! I think we're good for now but the other judges might pop in or have me do so if there are any other concerns. Fresh set of eyes and all that. Thanks again!

Submitted(+1)

visuals are very well done, i enjoyed the perspective of when you first go into the tv and you can see the living room that was cool

Developer

Thank you! Your entry was also extremely well done!

Submitted(+1)

That's a lot of content for a game jam, great writing at the end!

Developer

Appreciate it! Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

damn this is super well done! i had a similar idea but your environments were defo much better hahaha

Developer(+2)

Thanks for playing! Yeah, we both had the sucked into the TV idea -- should have put some coin flipping, haha!

Submitted(+1)

That was a fun little game for sure, the audience member part is definitely great. I think some more little types of interactions and show styles would be cool if you turn this into a bigger idea!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for checking it out! We had a ton of cool ideas for channels but unfortunately could only get to the three!

Submitted(+1)

Haha I loved it, especially the last vignette with all the audience members.

Thanks for checking out our game!
