Hey, got to this after the voting period but this is one helluva polished game, even the page style fits in!
I love the Grim Fandango vibes. I like how the boss incentivises you to make the most profit.
If you were to expand on this game I'd love more ways to upsell your clients and a papers please style back story to tug you in the opposite direction so there's more reason to lose funds.
Also the game says the year is 1998 but it's got more of a 50's vibe.
Really good job *thumbs up*
Ahh thank you! Means the world. :)
Yeah I had originally wanted to be able to do some character interviews so you could make a better-informed decision on which travel package to sell, but considering I didn't start work until 2 days into the jam I scrapped that idea pretty quickly. I think the final result gets the core idea across pretty decently.
And I had a lot of fun building the page. I'm a huge fan of what itch has to offer in terms of design capability so I always try to add some style to whatever the project is. This one just happened to have a pretty clear route for what it should be.
Very well made and stylish experience. The fact that someone died of chicken pox because they read books to kids was such nice funny-sad detail XD
Visuals and audio really worked well together. Enjoyable little loop, Would be great to see where you take it from here
I'm very interested in the core gameplay loop, I wish there was more to it as right now I can pretty consistently just push for the highest amount they can afford and tank the rating (which usually stays around 100% anyways). But I really liked the visuals, the presentation was fantastic, and I hope to see more. Great job!
The design of the itch.io page was really well done, and the graphics ingame fit into it perfectly with the curved LCD screen effect! Gameplay-wise it was a simple but satisfying loop, plenty enjoyable though I got a little confused as to how I could consistently pick the best choices - I wasn't sure why I would sometimes lose reputation when offering the highest tier of transport, or why I would gain it with less other times. Either way, this could be an awesome full game with more variety and perhaps other random events that occur! Really solid submission, great work, and fits the theme!
I really liked the game, it was incredibly fun to play. I think it'd be a nice touch though to have a different message pop up whenever you're losing money (but aren't in the negatives), and when your reputation is low too (50 or less).
Could do! Your required reputation also increases throughout the game. 10% day 1, 20% day 2, 30% day 3, etc. Easy way to scale it up.
i enjoyed this! i also love how the itch page is designed around the player space, it was a nice touch. i like the sound design and the sins were super interesting, lol! this was a lot of fun
Thank you so much! Yeah designing the computer for page was a lot of fun. Glad you like it. :)
Nice polish and great aesthetic, even on the game's page itself. Could've used a bit more variety in the pool of deceased I think.
Really fun concept! The aesthetics are very nice! I would love to see this expanded :)
Despite being very simple it was very fun to play! Even as something a simple as a filter can really tie a game together and it was fun to be able to read through all the different people's profiles and decide their fates.
Got to compliment your itch page, fit the game perfectly. Game was very cool and unique too! can see this be even more fun with a bit more fleshed out mechanics
Thank you so much! Making the page was almost as fun as making the game. :)
Really loved the style and the gameplay! I'd love to see a future version of this with more fleshed out backgrounds for the "customers", but for the time we had this is excellent! Really great work!
Thank you so much! Yeah I had originally intended to do, like, "interviews" with the characters but realized a couple hours in that that was going to be impossible with the time I had (didn't start until Friday).
Game is so unique wow!! So polished, with the sound effects and all, really good job to everyone that worked on this project...
Thank you! And believe it or not, solo project. 😁
WOW!! I love how with simple assets, you were able to build a game that is actually fun and makes you actually think, this is awesome and would love to see this expanded tbh
Yup, as expected, I enjoyed that, played the whole thing and will "be back Monday"! Very cool aesthetic on the page as well. I have yet to see anything like that on here! Nicely done!
Thank you so much! Yeah I love itch's design system, really lets you experiment, very old-web. I actually gave a talk on it back at Godotcon Boston in May. The video was supposed to go online but literally the day it was was when the credit card fiasco happened on here so I had to tell them to hold off because there'd be smoke. I think that's maybe cleared now though, so I may give them the green light for that soon.
Yeah I really like how much they let you customize it!
Sorry to hear that happened to you, what unfortunate timing!
Quite! Just my luck eh? But it's all good. Now that I have this up especially, it's a nice example of what can be done that I can add into the comments section.
Really well made game! Reminded me of 'Death and Taxes', and was a positive experience! The visual style was great, especially with how the page was set up!
I don't know if it was my luck or what, but I've met the same person twice in a row, so maybe that's one small thing I could call an "issue", but not really since a game-jam game shouldn't be expected to have 100's of varied names and character profiles.
Overall great experience, thanks for making it! :)
And thank you for playing it!
Yeah you're not the first person to mention you've run into the same person twice. Obviously something is off with my array-culling system. I'll look into it when I get a chance! But yeah, it was tough enough just cooking up enough dossiers so that you don't run out by the end of the game, so if some repeats do show up, hey I'll just chalk it up to experience security. 😁
I just want to say that the page being the monitor to the game was really creative. The game itself was a little tricky and I didn't quite understand what I was doing but the atmosphere and sound effects and the story was interesting. Great job!
Coon concept and prototype! If you are going to continue work on this i would love to see some in-between events and more challenges. Maybe the rules of DOD changes after a few clients :)
Thank you! I've had some ideas along those lines if I take it further, like a quota of Number Nine tickets you need to sell, some kind of corruption/purity meter, minigames about sorting the mail, idk, sky's the limit. :)
Really loved the visuals! Truly had fun! Awesome work!
