Nice aesthetic and great use of the theme, I had a hard time getting the intro cutscene to work but the gameplay itself was fun & unique! Figuring out the weapons and swapping mid fight made for exciting combat despite the simple systems. Good work all around!

Very cool implementation, congratulations on getting this done in 5 days! It's like Inscryption with chess, and the scale on the right instead. I did find it a little confusing, and got softlocked on my first game, but gave it another go and it was quite fun! I will say, the music doesn't really fit the rest of the aesthetic, but beyond that you've made a really cool submission! Making a sacrifice-based board game like this was one of our initial ideas, I'm glad to see it's been implemented well. Good work!

Simple game loop, but fun concept! It got a little repetitive but it looked great, the sound design was good, very remniscient of FAITH, and it was fun giving those campers a scare. Though I did scare a few to death, oops. Nice work!

I'm going to check out your game right now! If you'd like, I'd love to see your thoughts on our team's puzzle platformer, DeathBed!

Great concept and well executed! Wise choice keeping the experience limited in scope, that's the best way to avoid last minute crunches. I think you did great and the theme fits well, no complaints!

Nice little experience, quite repetitive of course but if you said you plan on expanding it, I'm interested to see where it goes! Great use of the theme and the implementation of what you were trying to do was great, so good work!

Great concept, nails the theme. Low res was a fun approach, feels like the kind of game you could have in a small window open on your desktop. The gameplay loop made sense after a few attempts and got more interesting as more enemy types were introduced. I really enjoyed this!

Lovely little game! The aesthetics are lovely, I like the way you render the characters. The system for changing costumes to ask better questions is cool and makes for some interesting decision making. I do think the text took a really long time to show up, it was a cool effect the first time but by the 10th question it gets quite slow. Maybe that's to discourage asking a million questions, but still the tedium was discouraging. Overall a great entry, really well done for getting this done in the time limit!

I'm super proud of our team's work, a gothic puzzle platformer called DeathBed!
You awaken to Death's call, but it offers you another chance - will you make it out of its labyrinth?

Absolutely divine beard. Where can I find Norman's barber?

If Norman wants to scratch his beard while thinking about some puzzles, maybe he can give DeathBed a go!

Just gave Department of Death a go, amazing submission! I'd love to see your thoughts on our team's work, it's a puzzle platformer with a great aesthetic called DeathBed! Let me know how it goes if you do give it a go:

The design of the itch.io page was really well done, and the graphics ingame fit into it perfectly with the curved LCD screen effect! Gameplay-wise it was a simple but satisfying loop, plenty enjoyable though I got a little confused as to how I could consistently pick the best choices - I wasn't sure why I would sometimes lose reputation when offering the highest tier of transport, or why I would gain it with less other times. Either way, this could be an awesome full game with more variety and perhaps other random events that occur! Really solid submission, great work, and fits the theme!

I really like the tone you established here, and the background narrative is set up loosely enough to give me more questions than answers. This is the kind of writing that really excels at making you want to learn more about the setting, and I do! Not only that, but the questions themselves were thought provoking, and the art helped set the mysterious tone. I really liked the responses to your answers especially. Very unique work, and a very strong submission - I think this is a great twist on the theme!

Trying your game out right now! If you'd like, I'd love to hear your thoughts on our puzzle platformer, DeathBed! I think it has a real charm to it, let me know what you think!

Besides the clipping issues people have mentioned (which did softlock me once as I got stuck in the floor), this is an amazing submission! How you did this in 5 days is beyond me. It really feels inspired by Rain World, did I get that right? Either way the aesthetic is unmatched, the platforming is fun and the narrative is great for this theme. Fantastic job overall!

We've got a lovely little puzzle platformer you can play in-browser, called DeathBed:

Superb mechanics, really cleanly implemented. A really smooth experience that fits the theme perfectly, and very nice puzzles. Learning to time myself with, well, my past selves was a fun and rewarding thing to solve. Really great job, especially as a solo dev! You should be really proud of this one.

Edit: Just played through your game and loved it! I think our game has conceptual similarities, though I really enjoyed the direction you took your puzzles!

Nice stuff getting it browser-playable! Definitely should help boost its accessibility. To anyone reading this, Grimble's game is absolutely worth checking out!

Oops, guess I linked the wrong one - well all the better, they're both amazing games as you found out!

Do not dilly, do not dally... Lovely brooding dialogue and great voice over, it felt almost like a noir detective novel at times. That is, in between all the crashes from my terrible driving. Who knew you could drift an ambulance? (I totaled it twice).

Really impressive amount of stuff to have set up so fast, and really fun to play! This is definitely a top submission, especially with the great adherence to the theme. Amazing work! And seriously - nice dialogue, I kept laughing which just led to more crashes.

Do not trust me behind the wheel

Interesting game, the visuals are nicely stylized and the gravity mechanics seem interesting, but I'm a little confused - I don't seem to be able to jump, so how does the 'air dash' work, and what does changing gravity do? Regardless I gave it a go and it seemed promising, unfortunate to hear a major bug snuck in :(. We almost had that issue but managed to patch it out with a new build last minute. Good work and congrats on getting something finished in the end, that's no easy feat!

I've got two recommendations:
https://itch.io/jam/jamsepticeye/rate/3935471 Death Dealer - it's a really simple yet fun card game that reminds me of Buckshot Roulette & Inscryption.
https://itch.io/jam/jamsepticeye/rate/3930531 'Til Death Do I Part - really awesome premise with impressive implementation and a short but sweet story.

You're doing a great thing for the community, good on you! I'm going to check out each of these now. Thanks for this!
Here's my pitch: https://itch.io/jam/jamsepticeye/rate/3930531 Death Dealer. Great little gameplay loop, well balanced & fun!

Eat, Sleep, Commune.
Really good! I liked the procedural animation, the graphics are charming and the narrative is well presented! The way you interpreted the theme here is great. Overall a very good demo, do you plan on expanding on it?

Fantastic game! I love the use of the theme as a gameplay mechanic. Feels rich with features and the levels genuinely made me curious how many different ways I could solve them with different combinations of elementals! You've made something really fun here, and it looks and sounds great on top of that!

Really cool game, you guys picked an ambitious format and managed to pull it off very well! Combat felt satisfying and the Gallow seed mechanic was interesting. Good work!

Really cool game! We ended up making something quite similar it seems, though I really love the visual style and the puzzle elements you came up with! I'd have loved to incorporate some of those into DeathBed now that I've seen them played out here, especially the poison mechanic. Really good work!

I gave it a whirl, it's really short and not much seems to happen in it? The concept is theoretically cool, but not yet in the game, so it's hard to evaluate how good it'd be. The visuals and art were good, though, so its a promising start!

Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Great work figuring out the puzzles.
Sorry you got stuck in the tunnel near the end there - but if you hold R for long enough (only 3 seconds!), the level will restart as it claims.

I'd love to see a playthrough of our puzzle platformer, DeathBed! It's a short but sweet experience with a great ambience, definitely worth a go!
