Description
Original score in the style of classical Romanticism, composed for Kale Overlord Jam Impressions Composing Jam: Vignette
The Yellow Lady is a story about a woman of nobility just coming out for a dance to enjoy the coming of Spring after a harsh winter. The theme reflects the dark brooding feelings of loneliness she felt during the winter but is now fading with the coming of Spring.
Cover art: Spring's Promise, Marjorie Miller, circa 1925
Took me a lot to complete this one but I got it finished. I went back to my roots for this one, meaning back to classical form. I really enjoyed making it even though I only had enough time and energy to make just one song. I really wanted to make three or something.
I hope you all enjoy!
The two things that I worked hardest on this time was fine tuning everything and making sure the mixes were good. Also making sure everything sounded good.
Lessons Learned
I learned that it takes a lot to fine tune everything in a song and that going back to my roots really helped me create something that I am happy with.
VST's all have their own sounds and some times it is hard to balance wet and dry. That was a challenge. Also, learned that panning is very useful and important for the sounds to sound more naturel and real.
Where did you source your cover art?

Great work! love how you treated the dynamics here, gets really big and then tones down to then build again. really helps build the emotion and story
Thanks :). Going back to my roots of classical music really helped me build this one.
Great orchestral composition, love it!
Thanks :)
I like the darker tone you've gone with for this jam! The transition between winter and spring will always just remind me of groundhogs lol. I think your interpretation is keen as well, as I never really thought about the background of the woman in the image, but I see it from your perspective! I think the reverb is a bit concert hall-like (but tbh I like the immersion of this being a piece being played live).
Hey Simishcj! Thank you so much for the reply and thoughts! Yah, the reverb is a bit much. I still have to figure out how to balance it. It was a fun submission to make.
A great classical composition with strong James Bond vibes (at least, that’s how I feel). Also, a very original interpretation of the art. I didn’t expect anyone to see such meanings in this artwork, but it turned out to be really interesting. From someone who also often writes orchestral music - my respect.
Thanks Alex! Yah, it does have a James Bond vibe now that I think about it haha. Good ear! Orchestral music is my jam and where I began. It is something I really want to keep improving at. Thank you!
The Sturm and Drang is strong with this one! Amazing use of Romantic-era dissonance and resolution. The shifting arrangements definitely evoke the likes of Brahms and Beethoven. The Symphonic Squirrel - you really live up to your name.
Thank you so much! Yes, I do live up to my name lol. Classical is where I began and pretty much what my roots are for music. Thank you for your words!
Nice take, I like the structures, you went with, very simple orchestral elements, there is some super meat boy/celeste section like at 25 secs, really cool change of pace. I would've like the ending to be a little more different than the intro. its nice to repeat some section to give a sense of going back home but I think a bit more variations would give a ncie touch
Mixing: The panning is indeed better than from what you previously did, I agree for the reverb everything seems a bit too far away in general. The piano could get some EQ especially the left hand playing in the mid range, there is some annoying fequency that can be tone down. Hard part is also getting the mid strings with brass and piano togheter, which is why the panning helps a lot and again some EQ. In terms of mastering, the whole thing could get bumped in volume with a nice limiter on the master track, you have some headroom to do so without peaking anything.
Good job !
Thank you so much FoxHyode for the feedback! This is really useful information. Yeah, before I submitted the song I pulled everything down because it was going to high, but it was to late before I noticed. Using EQ will help and a limiter also. Good advice. Still getting a hang on how much reverb to put! Yes, it is far sounding indeed. Thank you!
This has a bit of sinister undertone to it, like the lady in the picture is hatching a evil plan, at least for me 😄
The mix sounds great, although maybe a tad too much reverb to my taste, since the orchestra sounds like they are in a cave, but that's a subjective thing 😉
A bit different from what you've made for previous jams, but really liked this, good work!
Thank you Eetu! Yes, it is a bit to much reverb. Still getting the hang of how much to put. It defiantly has a darker tone to it than my other work.
