i liked this a lot!! the art style was SO cute. i love the collection of the souls, i love the added effect that the souls EXPIRE, and i love that you have to fight your way back!! a lot of the main fight is usually at the collection point for games like these, so it was nice to see it on the return!
Thank you so much! I did actually want to add something in the collection part to make it more interesting, like perhaps a "don't kill while x is close by," but ran out of time, perhaps I'll add it after the jam is over. Glad you enjoyed it as it was!
First of all, LOVE the art style! Super cute! It's a lot of fun, at first I didn't realize it turned into a platformer until I came back to the page to see what I missed! Would def recommend some kind of indication in the game if you keep working on it. That aside, it's super cute and a unique idea, great job :)
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! Not quite sure what you mean about an indication, I feel like that becomes obvious after getting past the intro, though maybe I could have included some more screenshots on the game page showcasing the platformer aspect?
Funny ending haha, I had a little fun while playing :)
I read in the description that music isn’t a strong suit for you, but a free to use song would make the game more engaging or I felt that while I was running away from the village. About the platforming part, is ok, I just felt it was a bit too long because all the souls most of the time got spoiled, which still won a lot of money and only needed 2 rounds to get all the money but maybe a little shorter would be nice
The controls felt good, the floaty jump felt good because it helps to avoid all the bullets and because it feels you jump higher, more at the last part of the platforming where the double jump makes it a breeze
About the gameplay, it’s good and simple, I think the only complaint for me is that I feel the hat shouldn’t be part of the gnome's hurtbox, mostly because it makes the avoiding bullets a bit awkward. Outside of that, I didn’t feel it was difficult or something like that, maybe if the bullets were faster, maybe that would be difficult for me but if you are patient, you can avoid them somewhat easily, maybe because I’m used to this kind of attacks I could get it with no problem haha. The story is funny and I liked the ending, at least we got the dream home xD
I liked the visuals a bit, good that the village doesn’t feel empty and the ghost at the start is a good touch. Nice entry and good you went and made something bullet hell ish, I like that kind of game
Thanks for playing, I'm glad you liked it!
I agree with the note about the music. I had even looked at free music briefly before wrapping up the game, but to be honest I was really lacking on sleep and I couldn't find anything I felt worked well with the game, and since I've noticed in the past that the wrong music kinda hurts the gameplay I just decided not worry about it. Maybe I'll look into finding something or trying to make my own after the jam if I get the time.
The platforming actually changes depending on the value of the souls you get. The higher quality souls that allow you to finish the game faster result in needing to do the longer / harder platforming course, and you get shorter / easier platforming courses for carrying the cheaper souls. I do feel like I probably could have made this a little clearer in the game.
And I agree about the hitbox - the hat really shouldn't be included as something that can get hurt haha, I'll probably fix that after the jam
Funny thing, you're probably the first person to mention the game not being hard enough, you must be really good at bullet hells! What I might do after the jam is combine your input with others, and make the bullets spawn farther away but also go a bit faster. I'd also like to add more platforming variations to make both more difficult and more easy levels.
Thanks for the feedback!
I see, I understand the feeling of missing sleep haha
I didn't notice that about the platforming, nice to know :o I only went for the souls that had higher reward haha, and yeah, don't take my opinion on difficulty, I'm a little strange when it comes to it and I guess it's because I used to play fangames of I wanna be the guy, so my difficulty "sensor" is broken xD (As example youtube.com/watch?v=WSwLQ2I51es )
And I'm bad at bullet hell, I can only pass the popular ones with the infinite live modes or easy modes, I don't put much effort into properly learning those games haha
The art is super cute — you’d never guess you’re killing for money haha! I thought the idea was really fun.
If you have a moment, I’d love if you could check out mine too!

Thanks, glad you liked it! I was pretty happy with how the gnome turned out while I was drawing it. Also I checked out your game and really liked it! Left a comment and a rating.
tnks!! 🙌
Yeah... I'm no good at this game. Interesting idea.
I guess I'd rather have it so the ghosts spawn in places that feel a bit more fair? (Maybe at a radius around the player? Or from off-screen?)
Thanks for playing! I agree, after the jam I might either change them to spawn off screen or increase the distance they spawn away from the player.
I enjoyed it even though it was very hard.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
AHHHHH! The orbs keep spawing in my face
Thanks for playing! Sorry about that, I probably should have made them spawn a bit farther away.
This is honestly hard. And I too submitted a Bullet hell.
The sheer randomness make the spirits hard to predict and avoid.
Thanks for playing! I agree. Their movement isn't random (they head straight for where you were when they spawned) but the position they pop up at is, and I think I could have done better with making the bullets spawn farther away so you've got a bit more time to react and try to avoid.
The fall vibes were real in this game! I would say for polish add a death floor so you can restart faster.
Thanks for playing! If by death floor you mean a point where you die after falling , there already is that - when you hit the water, you are supposed to take damage and respawn at an earlier platform. Unfortunately you may have encountered a bug I noticed too late where for whatever reason it decides to not work for the rest of the game and you fall for eternity. Didn't have time to address it, but I think refreshing the page for HTML or closing and restarting the game fixes it unless the bug pops up again. Unless by death floor you mean something to send you back to the village faster if your souls spoil? Which that would make sense, it is a bit annoying to need to either complete the platforming course or have to keep taking damage in order to return to the start.
Man oh man am I bad at these games XD. Nonetheless awesome submission
Thanks, glad you liked it!
I enjoy the game, and the art was cute. I love bullet hell, so this was definitely up my alley. Good Job!
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Nice artwork, got to a point where I couldn't make the jump and not sure how to earn money.
Thanks! Yeah there were a couple of spots where I made it just barely possible to reach, it was even worse at one point and I had to bring more of them closer together haha. Once all of your souls are spoiled though it should start giving you easier platforming courses so you can dump them on the reaper, then if you just collect the cheap souls it should continue giving you easier platforms.
Cute little game, just challenging enough
Thanks, glad to hear!
When you said bullet hell I understood the assignment. Nevertheless, I persevered and I enjoyed the game a lot and it was very cute in art! Physics were smooth and overall was very well done!
Thanks, glad you persevered and enjoyed it!
Very cute and charming game! platforming stage was a skill issue on my end, but I loved the experience overall ❤︎ nice work!
Thanks, glad you liked it!
fantastic, i got a house. wish i could buy a house for 1000 dollars irl. mortgage update when
Haha yeah for sure. Glad you enjoyed playing!
The art is really good! really liked the humor there. the parkour on the way back was a bit too much difficult for me but overall I've enjoyed the game
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the game! If you only collect the cheaper souls the platforming is a little easier, but I still think I could have included some easier courses than it ended up having.
Loved the fun story, and how the "opportunity" is killing hunderds of innocent people, just to buy a house, really fun dark humor there! The art style is really cute! I love it! There are some problems that I encountered though, first off, the section, where you go back to death seemed to be harder to reach out of nowhere, I don't know if the path to him is randomized each death, but at one point, it took like 5 seconds to reach death, but then it took like a minute, and it was almost impossible to reach without the souls fading out. Also, the little white enemies sometimes spawn too close to the player's radius. You can get hit out of nowhere, because the enemy spawned in your jumping (or heading) direction. One more thing, the water does 1 damage, the enemies does 2. I would personally switch this. You hit enemies more often and it is sometimes not even your fault, so it is a big punishment. But when you hit water, that is your own fail for missing a jump, so it would make more sense.
Overall, this was a great experience! Great job!
Thanks for playing, glad you liked it! The difficulty of the platforming depends on the quality of souls you collect, if you only collect cheap souls you get some easier courses (I did include two variations of the courses that can randomly be selected for the cheaper souls) and then there's a course for souls that are a little more valuable, and the hardest one shows up for the most expensive souls. I agree that I could have made the souls spawn a bit further away, and yeah it would have made more sense to swap those damage levels. My thought was that since you have to respawn at an earlier platform and lose progress, keeping the damage lower made it not as detrimental, but I agree that it makes sense to make falling more detrimental. Thanks for the feedback!
Really cute concept, love how you interpreted the theme, and your art for the game is amazing. I struggled a lot with the platforming and getting back home without my harvested souls becoming spoilt, but that might of been a skill issue on my part :<
Overall I really enjoyed this entry! It's has a very charming aesthetic, keep up the good work
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! Yeah to be honest I'm not the best at it either, only started getting at least somewhat decent at it because of testing it so much. If you collect only the cheaper souls though the platforming does become a bit easier.
This is a cool concept and the art style looks great.
A few things to note while playing:
1. Guardian spirit attacks even when there is no souls collected.
2. "The End" & "Interact to go to main menu", overlaps each other at the end screen
3. A villager spawn behind a pumpkin. Was that intentional?
Thanks, glad you liked it! Yeah it probably would have been a good idea to make you not get attacked without collecting any souls, might just have to be an update after the game jam's over. And yup, it looked better when I was working with a different screen ratio, saw they overlapped after realizing I needed to go with a different ratio, but I was running out of time and didn't get around to fixing it. And nope, that was not intentional, that was something added last minute and I didn't realize I'd set the z position wrong. I guess we'll just have to pretend the villager is holding the pumpkin or something haha.
