A cool polished game with neon lighting and a simple mechainic l liked it

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot, happy you liked it. :)

I looved the concept! The movement was really smooth and you did an awesome job with the shaders and textures!

Developer

HA! TEXTURES! Only amateurs use textures. As proud programmers that can barely draw a stickman, this game only uses shaders. xD

Thank you for playing. We’re glad you enjoyed it! :)

I really liked the graphics on this one! The concept itself was really simple and fun and I really liked how you’ve incorporated the theme. What I would change is the text at the bottom as it is way too small, but anyways, Good Job!

Developer

Thanks. The text is basically a placeholder we had no time to change. I was imagining a more visual indicator (a coiled worm displayed in screen corner with its length representing your remaining length). Sadly we ran out of time. Serves is right for only reserving 48 hours for the jam.

Same here, that’s why mine has a few issues.

The holeworm is such a good idea that I could see without problem in any sci-fi setting with wormholes.
5/5 Stars!
Ah and the game is also good I guess.

Developer

Thanks :)

Such a nicely done, well polished, good looking game! It was really intuitive to understand what was going on, all the shaders looked amazing, and it felt really good to play. The getting cut in half part makes it so that you want to manage your resources (tail length) well, so you can consume more stars, which I thought was really cool. All in all, a very vibey, cool submission. Great job!

I always love some good shader graphics, and in this game it was done very well. Gameplay wise, I like the movement and encircling mechanic which fits the theme nicely too. The linked civilizations which are out to cut you in half is a very nice addition too, and makes you think carefully about how to approach them. As has been mentioned, I think there's potential in expanding the story element here - the game feel itself is very cohesive. Well done!

Developer

Thank you <3

I really liked this one! The graphics were amazing. Shader really was a plus here. Some of the stars felt like they were in 3d space and I really liked that. The game gave me a feeling of mystery and wonder, if it was directed a bit more I think it really has potential in story telling.  I don't really know why some of the stars turned red though.

Developer(+1)

Thanks. The stars actually are in 3D space - the whole game is 3D (rendering-wise, not gameplay-wise), just kinda very subtly. I feel like we could have leaned into that a bit more, but we were not sure how. We tried experimenting with a camera that tilts a little but that made it less clear if you were encircling a star or not since the gameplay itself is 2D. Even the worm itself is 3D (with a dynamically generated ArrayMesh). See here for an early visualization of it: image.png

Unfortunately we did not have enough time to include a tutorial / hints of some sort. So currently it is all just in the game’s description, which is less than ideal. The star color marks which civilization is controlling the star (think Stellaris if you played that).

Really cool snake like game, very unique idea!

This took a while to familiarize, but turns satisfying real quick. One thing tho, it has a *little* bit of lag on my machine, just a little, but noticable

Developer

Thanks. Yeah, we ran into some lag in the web build too, but we only discovered it at the very end. If we do a postmortem release I’ll try optimizing the shader and maybe reducing the worm segment count in segments that are further from the tip.

I really liked the graphics! Especially that trail was really quite satisfying to look at. The gameplay was also extremely satisfying, fitting the theme quite well. One thing I thought the game still needs is some other feature, like maybe a point system to pull the entire game together. Well done!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I’m glad you enjoyed the worm’s trail. It’s not perfect, but I’m also very happy with how it turned out in the end.

The win condition was one of the last things we made and if we had more time I’d at the very least add statistics on the game over screen. Probably number of stars destroyed and total length you managed to gather. Currently the win / lose is too binary, I agree

This was great.
The words immediately coming to mind are "the experience was beautiful".
I'm not just talking about the visuals, though; something in this game engaged and calmed my soul at the same time (maybe that's too much... <_<).

The only issue for me was that I had trouble telling that I was running out of length, so the end came as a complete surprise.
I'm assuming that I couldn't see the visual cues against the dark background?

Developer

We actually wanted to add a better visual HUD element and some cues (screen darkening etc.) for running out of length, but instead it was us who ran out of time. Sadly currently the only place where remaining length is communicated is the text at the bottom of the screen, which is far from ideal.

Thanks for enjoying the game <3

nice I liked the idea

This game starts with such a peaceful atmosphere! Love the asthetic. The controls were difficult to get used to at first, but it got easier with some practice!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you :)

The controls being as they are were one of the first bits of the design. We wanted something that naturally pulls you into loops.

We spent probably more time on the aesthetics than on gameplay. One of the authors wanted to write some Stellaris-y shaders so that guided our visuals.

The worm design was meant to kind of be as if the hyperlanes/wormholes came alive and also were lit up as glow in the dark bodypaint on the body of the worm.

Nice game, quite fun :)
