I'd say this is one of the best narrative-focused games I've played in a jam. The writing in particular is at a higher level than most jam games. I died on the battle after getting the shovel. I don't think any healing mechanics were introduced, so I'm not sure how i could have done better. Overall really nice job :)
Couldn't reach the ending but I found the game really fun, I was engaged. A little bit more polish and the game could be pretty good! Great job on the entry!
Pretty fun little lovecraft rpg with a cool twist. I like it.
D: The horrors!
I really liked the graphics and great job on the story!
I'm not sure if there's much point in having to click the move button to be able to move, but otherwise really, great job!
Thanks a lot for playing and the feedback.
It was some bad design on my part for sure, initially you had to press the button every time you wanted to move and then I changed it so you could chain moves together, but the best option would be to do away with the it entirely.
Very exiting and impresive for your first game jam.
Really impressive entry! The writing and narrative were really great, I knew when David lunged at me that things were gonna go downhill. Trusting Natasha was the right call though! There's so much here, I am really impressed. Gonna come back and try to get further. Well done!
Thank you so much for your kind words.
Next time you play hopefully I would have updated the game to be a bit more complete.
Amazing game!
While i didn't understand why the consume theme for this game, after reading the submission page, i understood that it was more of metaphorically instead of literally.
But damn dude, the game makes you feel like a monster that is doing this just because you're believing what the amulet curse saying without second thoughts. Seeing that there is even options to lie about that you killed someone is insane and really reminded me of Undertale's Genocide route, expect this time, is more if you lie to hide what you did from others or tell the cruel truth that you're a monster.
I saw it was possible to combine attacks but, the only one i got was punch and the amulet and unfortunately.
In the intro, maybe the options for the move and people should appear after the first fight is finished since it confused me abit and i thought it was doing something when i clicked on them when the cutscene was playing.
I think it's insane but, the fact the wife still heals after you defeat her is well, screwed up and not sure if it's intentional since there is no dialogue differences.
While Kanoshi sprite is weird compared to the other characters (even in the start), i think slowly, it fitted him since he was becoming more of a monster slowly.
I lost around 65 of health due to David constantly grabbing me in the first fight (literally Street Fighter 3 Alex lol)
I know im probably overthinking this but, when Kanosis was talking in the library, didn't Alice heard his conversation? Not sure how big the library is but, if it's like small, i thought it was weird for her to not heard it. (unless Kanosis was whispering or something)
I really want to see this game get updates after the game jam and like to see the new endings, and i'd like to know more about the story too, like how did theses people got infected or something and how come when Kanosis fought the people at the mansion wasn't infected or something. (and how Kanosis didn't get infected)
Just incredible! It's even incredible that this is your first game jam!
Thanks so much for playing and taking an interest in the game, your feedback helps a lot.
Unfortunately since I was working on this till the very last moment there are a few bugs. unintended things and a bunch of missing interactions.
The wife shouldn't still be healing you after she died, that's something I did not get to test so I'm glad you spotted that.
There's really only 1 other combination attack that's in aside from punching the amulet but I had planned a bunch more. Also I had to nerf Davids grab in initial testing because it was way too OP, a lot of the other character were supposed to have varied move lists but sadly that never came to be.
The amulet conversations are supposed to be happening in your head, well at least the amulets side of things, but I didn't portray this very well.
Even the characters name was unintentional, I had put Kanosis as a placeholder for the variable for the player name and forgot to change it before I submitted, I initially was going to allow people to put in their own name. This is an over sight that bugs me the most because now it looks like I've done some sort of self insert into my own story, haha.
There's a lot more to the curse that was meant to be explained by the other endings but sadly ran out of time, I will endeavor to do another update for the game post Jam to try and put in the other endings and fix up some of the bugs.
Your enthusiasm for the game is really uplifting, thank you for your kind words.
Liked this enough to try over 4 times until I finally beat it and satisfied especially with how short this jam was, good job!
- Very good ambiance, solid choice of music and liked that the sound effects didn't overshadow the gloomy tone of it
- Good writing that hooked me quickly, careful on typos, (they're a pet peeve of mine but don't stain the experience)
- Reminds me in a good way of World of Horror you might also like if you haven't heard of. Though that one I found too scary to play myself lol. And I think yours works better because horror imho relies more on story than replay value.
- [ SPOILER ] Really like how one person attacking you may have been innocent
- Really like the ending leaves me wanting for more and seeing how else it could end were it a longer jam
Wishlist/Random improvement ideas as tribute:
- I wish combat had more player feedback. It's very hard to tell if [the item you can find right at the start] does more damage than punching for example. Would love either a number display or a healthbar or have their portraits deteriorate at health thresholds (though that's probably not worth the effort) or similar
- I managed to find [a key item needed before accessing the last area] but didn't see any text informing me it had been acquired, maybe a bug or missing dialog
Thanks so much for playing, I'm really glad you enjoyed it enough to finish it.
-Sorry for the typos, I really wanted to take a few more passes on the dialogue before I submitted but I was actually working on this right up until the deadline.
-I have actually played world of horror, one of my many inspirations when making this, cool that someone saw that.
-I left the HP and damage numbers out on purpose for a sense of tension but this is a issue a few people have brought up so I might think of a middle ground for this.
-I'm assuming the key item you're talking about might be the shovel? Normally you can actually get it by talking to one of the NPCs, but I didn't want the game to be soft locked so I made it so you pick it up if you kill him, didn't get around to putting any text to indicate this.
Thanks for all of the feedback, I really appreciate it.
Gregory messed me up even though I lit him on fire. I can see why you couldn't get to everything you wanted to make. Because there's a lot of content in this even as it is. I really like the cute 3D town. Overall, nice entry!
Oof, that was an intense experience even for such a little game. It really felt bad to fight all the people especially your wife. Very good storytelling as well as progress since you need to go around the town in order to unlock the next thing. Really love the concept. Great work!
I was really enjoying the story and I loved the world building. Unfortunately I got my ass kicked by some locals and the game seemed to just freeze at that point? But really great job with what I saw.
Thanks for playing the game,
I realized that I didn't set up a proper restart for when you die so it just quits the game, it's a small thing but I imagine people will get annoyed they have to restart the browser.
