End life plan
Will stay downloadable. Depending on feedback I might continue developing, and maybe work towards a full steam version.

Transparency note
Everything (sounds, music, graphics, programming) has been done by me; with the exception of one online asset script for RNG "Object Randomizer" related to calculating '% chance of....' and the font - 'free for commercial use' (I can barely write letters on a piece of paper).

Everything has been made during the Game Jam time.

Life's a bitch and then you die: The Game.

Can't believe my mother-in-law called me just after I'd recovered from Ligma. Took me a while to understand that clicking the Work button did anything at all. Like that it started an ongoing process that gave me money at the end of it. Other than that: very straight-forward and easy to learn game.

Developer(+1)

Imma' frame your comment; since I'm working on a new (very different) version.
So I can look back at this comment to remember what the alpha version was like lmao. I really appreciate the comment! :D

some bugs but overall fun game, with more card variety would be even better

Developer (1 edit)

I'm currently in the middle of rewriting the whole game, system, and mechanics. I'll be aiming for a Steam release, which will be a long time into the future. Which is why it's great that I've gotten feedback now to know what to look out for. I've had some time to think over how the game works; and the change is going to be quite heavy; which is why a total rewrite of everything will be necessary.
Thank you for the comment, I apologize for whatever bugs you may have encountered :D

Very unique!!!!

Thank you :D

It took me a little while to understand what I needed to do, but the art was pleasing to look at. Nice job on this!

Developer

Thank you so much! :D

I really liked the idea of the game, and the fact you could choose difficulty thematically as well! I was a bit lost at first but after a bit I got the hang of it and was able to get the musician and the businessman cards, I think it really has potential to continue building upon it, great game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I do plan to fix a lot of things and make it more coherent and easy to understand in the future! :D

its very neat, its a fresh concept

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! :D

Geez, that was dark.

Anyway, this was a good and unique concept. A bit confusing at first, but then it kind of gets the point.

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you got the gist of it, and thank you for the comment! :D
I really messed up in the explanation department when developing this game; but will fix that at some point.

You're welcome! :D

Don't worry, you can add a "mini-tutorial" or just some instructions in-game, then it can be intuitive enough.

Submitted

Very interesting! Shame that the hapiness stat doesn't seem implemented.

Developer(+1)

Unfortunately it isn't, wrote it in known bugs. The game jam was nearing an end, so had to finish up fast to not introduce more bugs right before the deadline :c
-Thank you for leaving a comment :D

Love the art and the sound, but the gameplay needs instructions, it took a few tries to understand what is going on, with time moving and everything. Cool concept.

Developer

I agree, I made it a bit too confusing and hard to understand how to play the game. Planning to change that big time in the future. Thank you for commenting and trying it out! :D

Very cool concept, although it took me a couple of tries to get the hang of it, haha!

Developer(+1)

That seems to be the theme with my game unfortunately; being hard to get a grasp of the mechanics. Definitely changing that in the future. Thank you for the comment and for trying it out! :D

It was confusing at first, but after a few runs, I was able to understand how it works. The goal seems different from what’s described, and happiness doesn’t seem to affect anything.
But overall, it’s a great game with a very unique idea and vision — it really reminded me of some board games about life

Developer(+1)

I unfortunately had to put "happiness" into known bugs since I didn't have time to add the mechanic for that, as well as the ending screen being bugged; I feel bad for the people thinking they failed the objective even though they didn't. I'll probably continue developing this game, and turn it around big time; the timer and main idea was mostly to fit the theme of the Game jam. Glad you figured it out, since I should've probably included instructions in the game. Happy that you found it charming, and thank you for dropping a comment :D

There seem to be some very interesting mechanics there.
Since the game is constantly in real time, and furthermore it's visually indicated that months go by every second, it made me frantically read through what I could and make sometimes ill-informed decisions. I don't know if this was the intent, but this made the game all the more confusing, as you barely have time to even read what's written on the cards. I believe this could be helped by using some visual indicators and easily recognizable pictograms together with text - they would be immediately noticeable and player would be able to make decisions faster.
This game felt very polished. My only wish is that the game was actually downloadable (for preservation purposes) as right now it's only playable in browser.

Developer(+1)

Not the intention to confuse no, but I very much see what you're saying. It's currently on the top of the to do list, the timer was for the jam theme, but will be removed in the future for a better fit and less stressful mechanic. I originally wanted visual indicators, but time was nearing. I did publish a day before the jam ended, but I was afraid of not making it in time if I introduced new bugs the day before. It'll definitely happen in the future, every kind of feedback I get is incredibly appreciated since it'll help shape the game in the future. Thank you so much! :D (Ohhh, I didn't think about the downloadable part, whoops! Imma' do that after the voting period is done)

A really fun idea, but I was incredibly confused while playing. The endscreen only tell's you if you win while the goal is proficiency cards I believe? But I don't know how many proficiency cards there are, and thus it becomes really hard to try and get every proficiency card.

I hope you continue to work on this, even if not for a full steam release just as letting this game fufill more of its potential.

Developer(+1)

In the future I'd like to make things a lot clearer, but with the time given this was what I could manage for now.
There's a lot of thing I've noted down, so a lot of things will change in future versions. Knowing a lot of people have a problem with confusion about my game definitely means that I've got some work to do; so thank you a lot for the feedback, it really helps a lot knowing where I need to put my focus in the future! :D

confusing  but good game

Developer

Thank you a lot! I'm going to rework a lot in hopes that confusion won't be an issue in the future. :)

Cool Game, Little confusing but the graphics and overall game were really smooth and nicely made

Developer

Yeah, got similar feedback that it's a bit confusing; planning to make it more easy to comprehend in the future. Thank you for the feedback and taking the time! :D

A lot of fun! Its hard to survive, but that's life.

Developer

Too real.... ;D
Glad you found it fun though, life can be fun sometime ;)

For sure! This game jam for example!

Strong concept and fun twist on an idle sim.

Developer

Thank you! I appreciate it! I'd love to take it further though, I want some replay-ability in the future, so I have to find a way to twist it more. Your comment is a boost to my motivation, so sincerely thank you for taking the time! ;D

interesting card game. some more work on Ui and card efect and it could be nice small game

Developer

Thank you! I wish I could've done some more to the cards as well as the UI (especially the end screen), but time was running out so I didn't dare try to change more right before the deadline in case of sudden unknown bugs. I might continue working on it in the future depending on feedback! :)
