Nice mechanics, I've got a little (maybe not nes) Lost Vikings vibes out of this. Great entry

Developer

Thank you so much! And actually, Lost Vikings was indeed one of the games that inspired this, thanks for noticing!

Nice job with this!  I played to the end and enjoyed it, and using the different abilities was fun.  In game jams it's often tough in the time crunch to do endings, but you did a really good one here -- nice!

Developer

I'm glad you finished the game and liked the ending! I really tried to take care of that part and make sure people would enjoy it. Thank you so much!

It looks very nice and it's a very well chosen music. I like the character changing mechanics, but it's not used a lot. It's clear every level has exactly one character that that level is for, so it's kind of pointless to have it.

I'm also not sure where the princess is.

Developer

Thank you for the comments! I actually tried to include the other characters in different levels without taking the spotlight away from the ones those levels focused on, but due to time constraints, I didn’t design them properly. I also had planned a level before the final one that would combine all four abilities, but I didn’t finish designing it.

As for the princess, this game was based on an idea I had a long time ago that I never got the chance to bring to life. When I saw that the "princess" theme was completely optional for this jam, I decided to go ahead and finally make it happen.

I loved the game, the graphics are cute and the idea is good ! Well done !

Developer

Thank you, I'm glad you liked them!

This did not feel like NES too much, probably more like Sega Genesis but game was pretty fun besides that.

Developer(+1)

I'm sorry, I tried to take care of that aspect to make it very similar to the console, but I'm glad you found it fun!

Thanks, it was still good tho

Super cute! I like your approach to player training: A quickie cutscene, and then dump them into the game to feel it out. Really felt fresh and rewarding.

The boss fights felt incomplete. I think some sound effects or some visual cue when you hit the boss, would go a long way.

Developer

Thank you for the comments! And yes, I agree — the bosses were missing some feedback.

Oh, this is a cute and adorable one mixed with so much platforming variety,  it's 'almost a challenge to keep it all straight. This certain racks up points in the fun department!  Nicely done!

Notes:

  • No pause?
Developer

Thank you so much for the feedback! I tried to implement the pause menu to also allow level restarts, but it was causing errors, so I ended up disabling it in the end.

Very cute game, nailed the NES feel on this one. Not sure if intentional but I never had to use the white hamsters ability I just used the dash guys ability not realizing that it would be the end of the level when I got to the hamster.

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you liked it! As for the level, it was partly intentional — I noticed it could be completed using that path, so I left it there to give players an alternative way to beat it. The only downside is that it means you don't get to use the other hamster, but thanks for pointing that out!

Sooo charming! I love the little storyline and how each level adds a new mechanic to your arsenal. I really enjoyed the short mechanic tutorial cutscenes to start each level too! Really great artwork and music! All of the hamsters have a lot of appeal and the boss design had some great details like the bite out of his ear. Great job!
Developer

Thank you again, I'm really happy that the game was understandable and that the cutscenes helped — that was my main concern. Thanks a lot for the comments and for finishing the game!

They escaped! Great ending sequence including a great choice of music.

I enjoyed the game a lot. I was actually happy you used the same idea as last year of the party of characters with their own special ability as I love this kind of things. The characters are cool by the way, I like them, I enjoyed the progression through the story and like that that it's all perfectly presented like in a NES game. I appreciated that I could play without the filter and the juiciy jumping sound. The game controls perfectly, the levels make good use of the cool abilities and the game ends with a satisying boss fight of the exact kind you find in NES plateformers.

Great game!

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you enjoyed the game, and even more that you finished it. Honestly, I wanted to polish last year's idea and deliver it the way I would have liked back then, but with its own unique touch. Thank you so much for the feedback.

Really Cool game, Love the fact that this 100% could have been on an NES, great job :) It's cool there is something that allows to add or remove the filters also, I wish I would have thought of that :P

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for the comments!
Don’t worry about the filters, that’s how we learn. I added them this year because I saw many people used them last year.
